Director for a financial services company.

I manage a staff of accountants that provides 3rd party accounting and finance services to large financial institutions.  Our area of expertise is real estate financing.

I might know a Bill Swarts or 2...

I used to work at a Title Inusrance Company, Stewart Title and it was nothing but 2 named douche bags, A&M MBAs, and religious nut jobs (aka the worker ants). Horrible, I'll never go fortune 500 again unless it's a tech company (MS, Norton, google...).

Im a Project Manager/QA Specialist (business card title) at a small web development company.

Pay isnt bad, I have an office and I wear jeans, tshirts and sneakers everyday to work.

I also get to lurk on Slap all day long!
[close]

that's funny, I'm actually in a project management class right now (i just cut class to come check the board). thinking about encouraging my wife to go in that direction. did you get any cirtifications or special training or did you do a management degree? how'd you get into it?

I completely fell into it accidentally. I was working at a PR firm in the web division. They used websites to put the issues that we were working on, out to the public. So I was in charge of content management and creating crappy html pages, graphic design and things like that. I just got some decent experience there.

Then I was randomly applying to jobs and scored this one. So now, I simply make sure all client issues are ushered through the developers in a timely manner. I cut up and create graphics for our sites. And provide QA on all of our work. Im about to get certifications in html, .php and .asp. So, long story short, Im a lucky SOB.

Def look into this shit. Its kushy. And if I wanted to work in NYC, my pay would be like 10-14k more than Im getting in Jersey. Its just right now, my commute is 20 minutes and very easy.

no it isnt
school is so easy
just do your homework
you dont have to care about rent and all that shit

True, but if I don't study hard now, I will have a crappy job instead of a nice job, and then I will have to worry about the rent, because a crappy job probably won't pay enough

Yes Sir. You should have seen them in action/effect Saturday afternoon. Truely harnessed them for the benefit of others. It's a long story, perhaps I will post it somewhere. ;)

yeah, I've always thought that PM seemed like a kushy gig. They get paid more than the creative people on creative projects for basically being organized in a way that just about anyone could do, plus you can find jos with no travel requirements. I'm actually learning kepner tregoe right now and it's pretty easy. I use David Allen for personal organization and it's really only slightly more complex. I guess I'm getting older because I actually think organizing is fun these days.

Last night at the bar, some dude was introduced to me as a guy who works at CBC. He was wearing a suit, even though it was a dirty bar. He was already going, "Oh, let's not talk about my job... I mean it's really good, but I'm not the kind of guy that talks about his job... I'm this guy at the company... I work in sales... I'm more of the director of the area..." This guy couldn't have been older than 25.

I mentioned I was a video editor for the Ryan Sheckler of Canadian channels, and for some reason, he felt the need to compete with me, and said, "Oh, well you're the kind of guy I pay to do work for me."

I said, "Wow... You're a Post Production Manager?"

He said, "Oh, no, but..."

Then I commented on his suit and his matching tan mall bought Vans, and went to the basement and had diarhea.

I was an assistant manager at a Vans store but I just started grajooate skool, and now I spend 10 hours a day learning how to drill holes in peoples teeth and subsequently charge them an outrageous amount for it.

I work at a "boutique" and customize sneakers on the side, but I guess I just do the sneakers for myself to wear. The money's not the best but I get to meet a lot of people and the discount is key. I miss selling weed and making good money, but life goes on. I got a BS in Communications Media, but I'm a go back to school and be an elementary school teacher.

I'm an assistant department manager at Menards (it's like Home Depot, but only in the Midwest).  Basically my day consists of doing crappy stuff fot the general magager, or having people tell me I'm wrong when I tell them we don't have stuff.  Working retail really reinforces stereotypes and creates a general hate for people over all.
First of all, I want to thank god for giving you all so much, and me so little...

Thats not a job.  i do that full time and have two actual jobs
Anyways, I work at a local council, or government, here in Australia making maps of there parks.  it is sweet. CAD work basically but pay is good and if i get to take them into Illustrator to make real maps it will be fun but i probably won't be there long enough.

I also work at a landscape/urban planning/urban design firm doing graphic work and, although slowly, more work with clients and design shit.  which is good.

I graduate with a masters in landscape architecture in december so back to the US to get a job.  Doing what you love is fun.

I won't discount that some course curriculums are as hard (if not harder) than a job... my girl became and RN at the toughest nursing school in the state, she worked way harder than I ever have, and I'm not just referring to the clinicals. I wouldn't wish her academic course load on my worst enemy... it had her fucked up in a bad way for the entire 4 year nursing curriculum.

Now, if we're talking English, Communications, Kinesiology, or whatever... not so much a job. I'm not discounting the strain of those majors (I was an English Ed major for three years before switching over to computers, which was more of a hobby with a grade attached to it, but all in all studies are as hard as you make them, depending on how well you want to do in the course study.

Definitely, my wife is about to go to medical school, i can't even imagine it.  but if you are in undergrad for almost anything, it pretty much it isn't that hard.  I always found that working was a good idea anyway in terms of structure.  To much freetime always killed me because of procrastination.  When I work i have to do school stuff precisely when I can since I can't put it off.
