As for the Sambas, the leather does stop at the stitching, if it didn't they might be too thick and bulky in the toe area. Once it starts coming up, I'll post a picture.

Well, you might be right, but it feels kinda gimmicky to stop the leather at the stiching.

Gimmicks attract attention to increase appeal. I'd say this is the opposite of gimmicky.
It's one of the only weaknesses of the design.

But it's a big weakness. I was kinda disappointed when I saw that on the video reviews. It should go all the way down, so you have 2 layers to go through. You need to superglue the stitching right before you skate them so they hold up a little more without falling appart.
But Adidas is always trying to fix and update stuff on shoes, like they did on the Suciu insole or the Buz vulc sole compound. Maybe they'll fix this.

What I meant by gimmicky is the fact that the original goal of stitched toe caps was to increase the life span of shoes, not to be exclusively decorative. I don't know how is the toe cap in the current sambas from adidas original, but I'm pretty sure in the first sambas the toe cap was an added layer, not a decorative one.

I have both, the originals are constructed the same.

I don't understand why the Emerica Herman G6 is still being produced yet it isn't being pushed by them and you can only buy it on the Emerica website

Zappos has them. They changed the design and they're kind of shitty feeling. Maybe it was just the pair I got. I sent them back. Shame because I loved the original.

look at motorcycle jackets, a large percentage of the ones that aren't leather ones are heavy waxed canvas. would've thought it would have lasted at least a little bit longer, ya know? gravis's waxed canvas usually held up okay for at least a couple of sessions.

Depends on how thick the wax is and how heavy the canvas is. Skate shoes are usually made with thin ass canvas to save money & get repeat purchases.

Motorcycle gear HAS to be rated to save a human life though. HUF are specifically made to be as cheaply produced as possible. If they made shoes out of highway ready canvas they'd cost like $200 a pair (with the streetwear markup).

Not to burst your bubble but that's not true.. Most are just mixed fibers (like dyneema and kevlar) and the waxed ones are the same material + mainly meant for 40 year old men on triumphs or cafe racers, so the coating is for looks (and can also help with moisture to a certain extent). That wax isn't gonna do shit when you go down at 80 miles per hour.

Waxed shoes look cool though but keep that shoe goo or superglue on hand

yeah i've seen a lot of denim with dyneema and kevlar mixed in not as much riding jackets but then again i'm not looking at the super technical stuff...

...in any case i hot glued over the hole and its holding up fine now.

I bought these up at Forman Mills for $40 like 2-3 weeks ago. The color was fucking crazy so I picked them up right away, they were my size and fit perfectly. I've been skating them a bunch and they're fucking rad, nice thin cupsole, very grippy and the suede is nice quality. First pumas I've ever skated and I'd get another pair in the future.

https://goo.gl/images/tFxjjs

Once I blow those out I'm going to skate these Simples, I've been wearing them around to break them in and they're really comfortable and not as bulky as they look. The photo makes them look regular, but they're actually pretty nice in person, very nice quality suede and leather. I'm imagining them feeling like a cupsole chuck Taylor since they are essentially.
