Well I guess Vans can take solace in the fact that the grey/ice/clear colorway wasn't ugly, it's just the shoe.

Just realized the insole is sewn inside the shoe, can't take them off. No way I can put my FP game changers in the shoe.

Going to have to try out the stock insole, don't remember the last shoe I used a stock insole.

Feels a pretty thick when I tried it on. So hopefully, it'll be ok.

Finally got around to skating my Koston 3's. Coming from the Koston 2 Hurache these are a very different shoe in terms of construction - They fit like a glove! They also have amazing arch support compared to the Koston 2s. Also that ankle support  is unnoticeable which was my biggest thing with skating em.

Overall if you like more tech/supportive shoes this is a good shoe.
Skateboarding is like jacking-off, it's that good- Jeremy Klein

They came directly from Vans new HQ in Costa Mesa. I emailed them and asked if any samples available to test out. Hit me back and said only 9.5 left, no more size 9.

First time ever seeing the shoe in person was today. Wore them in today to break them in.

I'm really interested in those UltraRange Pros. I think they look great. Keep us posted on how you like them Tate. I fear they're gonna be a bit too expensive here in euroland though, but if everyone else hates them (like it seems based on a few SLAP comments  :D) maybe they'll be on sale in no time.

i checked out some UK online shops and was in london last year when the kyle walker pro was being released- was mildly confused to see the price in austria was 85? and in London only 65 pounds as the regular pricing wich was the same in Euros back then.
you should definately check out Uk shops, maybe they are cheaper there?

I am on the Vans PR email list or something, I just asked if it was cool to try out a pair. They asked for my size. They said size sample 9 was gone and if size 9.5 would work. I said that'll work. Couple days later they arrived. Gonna give them a shot soon.

Thanks for the heads up. I've checked some U.K. sites every now and then and some shoes seem way cheaper over there. Haven't figured out what the deal is with that but I shall keep my eyes peeled. Don't really need new shoes for a while though but it's not like that has stopped me before.  ;D

I seem to buy shoes mostly on sale so then the price difference might get smaller. Can't really justify paying 90+? for shoes I'm gonna thrash skating.

Many U.K. shops have high shipping costs to Finland also. Would have ordered a bunch of State shoes and other stuff from Note shop but the shipping is like ?25 no matter how much you spend. Very hard to justify that also.  :-\

I think shoes are cheaper in the uk since the brexit thing happened and pounds arent worth as much as they used to.
I also like the ultrarange. Love that little window under the jazzstripe. I'm interested to see how they look like in person.

That's just from Tate, I personally didn't like mine - half size small and stiff as a brick.

Had the same problems with my 598s, worst shoe I've skated in quite some time. Super stiff, ran extremely small, garbage support & insole and they were pretty uncomfortable. Gave them to a friend after 2 sessions and he had the same complaints.

I bought some 868s for sale online without seeing them in person first and they are a bit of a disappointment.

I'm pretty sure they aren't any more padded than their slimmer cupsole models which begs the question, "Who exactly wants an shoe that looks like a runner, is more expensive and bulky, but isn't well cushioned?"

The 868 is roughly the size of a Dunk with a rounded toe but feels narrower because of an aggressive waisting near the arch.

The insole is thick but surprisingly un-absorbing - almost like a soft rubber rather than a foam or gel.

The midsole isn't particularly impressive - I'm sure it's thinner than the Reynolds I've been wearing. I wish I had seen this cutaway before buying:

I'm not saying they are bad shoes per se (the upper feels indestructible) but they are not what I was expecting, comfort wise.

Thanks to Vans skate for the sample Ultrarange pro.

I tried these on today and the soles are incredibly thin. Like regular Chuck Taylors or Vans.

Again, I don't get it. "We got this crazy new tech [and it's a 3/8" piece of foam midsole with a flat, glued in, 1/8" insole]!"

I don't think skating is meant to be done in thick techy shoes, it wasn't invented in those shoes and it doesn't look good. What was the Gonz or Guy or Mike Carroll skating in the 90s when they were inventing street skating? Thin shoes like Vans.

damn willie fo real?

i really liked mine, i even thought they were well cushioned...like really well? but i guess i was not coming from a reynolds cup- still have those waiting till i am healed up and ready to go! your negative criticism towards the 868s makes me want to skate them a bunch more though  ;D

i skated mine about a month- 3 sessions a week, each 3-4 hours straight flatground and flipstricks and they held up mighty fine (regarding your comment about the lasting upper)

but i guess different strokes.......
