Film ? What type ? Because I've tried a handful of b&w films, but haven't found the "perfect" type for my taste yet and these look just amazing.

I believe I used Ilford HP5 400 film and Neopan SS 100 (which was shot at 400 ISO on accident, but some shots still came out ok).

it's hard to have decent results with bw without having an own lab in the cellar. ask b.

I'm getting an Olympus OM-1 and want a way to scan my own negatives. Can anyone suggest a good 35 mm film scanner?

I've had good luck with Epson and Canon scanners.  Just don't get the cheapest model.

Or if you have any friends going to art school see if they could show you the school's computer lab, if you need a password, etc...  If you appeared to know your way around, anyone could have used the art dept. computer lab where I went to grad school; no one checked ID, no passwords needed.

What kind of scanners, though? Flatbed or actual 35 mm negative scanners?

I have basically zero experience with any of this so yeahhhhhhh.

The second option sounds pretty good too. I probably know some people.

Over the summer, I bought an Epson V500 after talking with some people. It's a really good and easy to use scanner for a pretty good price, depending on where you get it.

I use an epson v750 pro, which is quite allright. I had a canon scanner and it ruined most of the stuff, because most of the scans ended up blurry. try to get silverfast software with an epson v500, should be good too.

Flatbed scanners have gotten really good, 35mm scanners are kinda going away.  People don't want something the size and shape of a large brick sitting on their desk when it only does one thing.

I can't recall what model(s) I was using when in school, but other people in here seem to have specific feedback.

What's a good camera that is also cheap? Basically what's the best I can get for 100 or under? I'm guessing not much.

A used film camera, but film and processing gets expensive.

If you want digital, phones like the iPhone have a camera that will be as good or better than a $100 compact digital camera.  A used low-end DSLR will run at least $250.

Save up and get something decent.

I wish "LIFE" magazine was still around.
