Got a Nikon J1 the other day, not much of a photographer really, dabbled in it a lot down the years and i've posted some of my 35mm ones in here before but yeah hopefully going to be using this everyday and for travelling and stuff, just want to document as many things in my life as I possibly can right now. Haven't had much chance to play with it yet so this is all I have so far:

skating is all about choosing your outfit very deliberately, going out in public. looking super sick. and then riding your board a little bit

I'll post this only because I froze my ass off for no reason to shoot today and got very little out of it.

SLAP's professional opinions, please. I've got an opportunity to get a Canon Rebel T1i with a 18-55mm lens, a 55-250mm, and a55 mm, all for $550. It would be my first camera, and it would just be for general use in travel, indoor, outdoor, whatever. Does this sound like a solid camera for a guy that is basically a beginner behind the lens? After doing research, the deal sounds good and I could probably turn a profit on it if I didn't like it, but I'm looking for something that I'd like to keep for a while. Please, enlighten me.

Edit: Also, I'm looking at a Canon Rebel XSI DSLR with a Tamron AF75-300mm F/4-5.6 LD Macro (1:39) Lens for $500, which is not as good a deal from what I can tell. This all means very little to me, so if someone could explain to me what I'm getting and maybe compare the two cameras, I would really appreciate it.

Go for the $550 package, better camera body and 3 lenses.  If everything is in nice shape that's a good deal.

Beginner tip: try to only use the fixed 55mm lens, it will force you to think about the composition and make you move your body rather than rely on using zoom.

Those are amazing! The link at the bottom that says criminels de newcastle in 1872 is very cool as well. Thankfully google chrome translates websites!

I have that book, the photos shown on that website are pretty much the best pictures in there.
