This isn't necessarily the most beautiful photography that'll be here, but it's for a project I just completed for a journalism class. It's an audio slideshow, which is essentially just a video that uses stills.

the camelmarket photo is near Al Ain in Arab Emirates.
Those sellers took me in one of those camel cages, get to sit on 'em  and take more photos. they also showed me a camel breeding on a truck. it was a bit weird

chuck d or anyone else, I'm doing some work that involves taking many color photos so I am thinking I need to get a digital camera. What do you recommend for a nice compact option with good quality? Not looking for a giant slr.
I thought it wasnt just him solo, shouldve stuck with my og thought.

All the portraits I've posted were shot with a Sony RX100.  It has a 1" sensor, which is large for a compact.  Also, it opens up to f1.8, and when that's not enough, you can tilt the pop-up flash back and bounce it off the ceiling for a nice fill.

Of course, it's a year old now and there's probably a lot of new cameras about to be released for holiday season.
Here's another one I shot this morning.

Another tattoo artist, his name is Isaac and you can see his work here if you are interested.

Yeah, the rx100 looks very nice after some research. The second version just came out but doesn't seem to be worth extra $150 for my purposes. $600 is a decent amount of money. I've never bought a digital camera. Will it be outdated/breakdown or something equally sad in the next couple years?

And where do people buy these things?

do we share the same grey matter? i've been poking around digital options lately, too. the RX100 has tempted me since chuck d started posting his killer interior portraits awhile back. probably can't go wrong with that one, but here are some other options at a similar price point:

i've been sold on the powershot line since 2006, which is how long that one model i carried around in santa cruz has lasted. smashed lens first into the ground, dropped, stashed in sweaty skate pants pockets, and still works perfectly. there are newer models (S100, S110, etc.), but the S95 looks like the best balance between specs and cost.

i've heard nothing but good things about this camera and am dangerously close to bidding on one via ebay. large sensor, fast fixed lens (35mm equivalent), optical viewfinder, and a control system that is easy to acclimate to if you're coming from a manual film camera. apparently the latest firmware upgrade fixes a lot of the sluggishness in focusing and in the general interface.

let me know what you decide on!

I was just about to put the thought aside and just use the $600 on good film and processing. Now you pulled me back in to the abyss... I think my parents have that same or similar canon. I am usually blown away by how good the photos look. Still deciding!

damn--just noticed that the canon can be had for under $200 online...that might be your winner. on the short end the lens is a 28mm f/2.0, pretty crazy.

I am actually picking up a Canon M tomorrow for $330 from Craigslist. I know it had initial shit reviews but with the firmware update and the 22mm f/2 lens, it's turned out to be a decent camera for the price now.

And some stuff from my visit from Chicago this past weekend. I did a bunch of tourist shit but fun though.
