I just shot this photo on my new Canon M. This was about ISO 800 and I didn't touch it up that much in photoshop. I always wanted a second camera for when I want to go to concerts and what not since I can't take my DSLR everywhere. So far so good as far as the new firmware update fixing the autofocus. The image quality is pretty damn good with the 22mm f/2 but of course this will be another issue on moving subjects. Only real grips so far is the controls and how to shoot with it. It is pretty hard to shoot single handed and on manual mode when changing the shutter speed. The best way is to use two hands and it sort of seems dumb for such a small camera. Another odd thing is tap to focus and shoot will be more accurate then then just pressing the shutter button and especially when shooting on macro. Also this doesn't fit in pockets that well.

So far a pretty great camera for the price (I got it for $320 brand new). It feels better then the G series Canon cameras like the G16 and image quality seems better than the S series like the S120. I would recommend it if you don't mind a camera with no flash and don't need crazy fast autofocus but there is a new camera that will replace this soon.

Adidas came through Portland a little bit ago. Would have had some actions shots but I forgot I hat 160iso film in my camera so a bunch of it turned out blurry. The other ones are from the Portland Adult Soapbox Derby.

I really want a tilt shift lens but can't afford to buy one. I can photoshop the blur ... it's the shifting of things that can't be manipulated and looks so cool and makes for a weird ass image.

Quick question for my Slap homies. I really want to get some ND filters so I can do some longer exposures during the daytime and was wondering what your experience is with these and if there's a huge quality gap in them. The majority of them I'm looking at online are really cheap and I just don't want to compromise a lot of quality over a few bucks. Any info about ND filters would be much appreciated.

I can ask my dad about that. He used to do some pretty long daytime exposures when we lived in NY. Chances are though he'll give me the "I don't know... I just did it" answer.

I got a really cheap ND filter on some online website. Figured it couldn't hurt to try. Mine is a standard ND8 which doesn't really give you too many options to shoot things with light. I think I was getting 30 second exposures only when the sun was about to set. If you want more freedom in shooting when the sun is out, you have to get one that reduces your f-stop by a lot. I think mine only reduced it by 3 f stops something higher then that for sure. I would think 10 stops down would be fine.

I have the 10 stop bw one, it's really good, 30 second exposures during the day are great. Depending on the filter size you need it may get kind of expensive, my 67mm one was like $60 2 years ago, here's a couple photo's I took with it, doesn't affect image quality at all.

^^^Sick. I've shot over like 50 polaroids and only so many were decent. I find I am better at black and whites but I still get the exposure messed up.

dont go for the really cheap ND filters. i had two of these, and one of "medium priced" ones.
the 2 cheap ones both had "hot spots" (spots where the coating was fucked and light leaked in), so i returned them.

if you really want to get into the whole filter business, it would be best to stay away from the screw-on-filters and go for a system with filter-holders and stuff.

every one i know that is into landscape or similar stuff swears by them.

kinda expensive in the beginning though.

picked up these 2 gems in stockholm recently, really stoked on the fred mortagne book, it was on discount for like 10 euros, plus my girlfriend picked up a great miles aldridge book for 30 euros.

Yo Brian.....I know you use a Canon and shoot flash at your concert shots? Is that just from the camera or do you use an external? Looking to get into some flash stuff but want to do it the budget way. I might get a set of Yongnuo flashes but wonder if anyone has some recommendations.

I just bought a Lumix GX1, anyone else shoot with this? Also bought a Rokinon 7.5 mm fisheye for it. Never had a nice camera before but decided I wanted to start doing something new. Any tips anyone has for this camera would be much appreciated as I really haven't done any research besides skimming the manual.

This is a standard "I just got a camera, I'm going to shoot photos of my pet" photo with the fisheye.

try to get a Canon 540EZ. those are the older ones and really cheap, but really powerful and tough, had 2 of those falling down from 1-2meters at skateshots with no damage whatsoever.

fully manual though.

this is one of my favourite shots recently. sadly he didnt roll away from this one and we got the boot immediately after that try, but i just liked that shot too much.
