^^^^^Sick as always my dude. Got any tips in general shooting street photo stuff of random people? You always talk to them first or do you just go for it? I need to start growing some balls and just shooting people more.
Thanks Fongstarr!
It kinda depends on the situation and the mood I'm in. I'm generally a shy person and I don't like rejection. With street portraits, especially in a city like Baltimore, rejection is pretty common. It helps that I'm usually with another photographer so if I'm not feeling up to asking someone, maybe they are.
I've learned to do a lot of practicing at street festivals and stuff since there's an expectation that photos will be taken. People are usually happy, drunk, with friends, so it's easy to get portraits. Another big thing I've noticed is film cameras allow people to warm up a little bit. Most people think it's really cool that I'm "still shooting film" and a lot just think a TLR is really cool looking.
While I do shoot a lot of people candidly, I think talking to people is the best part of shooting street portraits. It's gotten me to come out of my shell a bit and I find out a lot about people that I don't think I'd ever talk to if I wasn't a photographer. A lot of people are actually pretty honored to have their photo taken, since it's a cool thing to hear that someone finds you interesting.
But I guess the best thing I can tell you is just keep doing it. The more you do it, the more you'll get used to it and, eventually, it'll just come naturally.
Hope that helped!
