tried that, but it usually doesnt do much. my eyes might be bad too because i have a really hard time seeing the tweaks and whether or not its making a difference. maybe i need the HDR turned on or something. all my shots come out either really blurry or all noisy. i have a 4s if that matters.

not that i care too much about getting better phone shots. 99% of the time i have a real camera with me anyway, but sometimes i see something funny at the grocery store or something and try to take a photo and they always look shitty.

Snapseed lets you adjust the dynamic range on a sliding scale so you can push it slightly, without going all the way into a kitschy tone-mapped look.  Or, you can pull it back a bit, which can dramatize the lighting.  If you download the app, the dynamic range control is called "ambience."  Maybe try playing around with that.  I usually have my SonyRX100 with me, but when I don't, I am usually content with what I can get with my Galaxy s5.  Generally I'll tweak the dynamic range and then bring down the saturation a bit in Snapseed, then adjust the highlight tint and overall color temperature in VSCO.

Snapseed is a must for phones with just editing. Granted editing on a phone can be a little deceiving imo cause I feel like photos have to be over saturated to look normal but it's a really app and better than Photoshop app. I normally do VSCO first and then Snapseed but people do either or.

sick photos. i've got a kiev 88 that i love so it's always cool to see others using medium format. nice colors too, what film were you using? did you use a light meter for them too?

Thanks man! Yeah, medium format is the shit. For these, I was shooting with Kodak Ektar, which is my go-to film. I don't really ever use a light meter, unless I have another camera with a meter on me, so I'll usually just wing it.

Beautiful colours on that last portrait, CadillacRanchDressing. Do you have any recommendation for a cheap medium format camera for beginners? I've only shot 35mm before but I'd like to try different formats.

if you dont have a meter, theres a few decent apps that do the job. i just have one called "light meter" for my iphone and ive tested it against the meters on my cameras and its spot on with what they read. downloaded it because i just bought this sears camera the other day for $25 on ebay. came with the case, flash and shutter release cable too. its a rebranded ricoh 500 rf, but since it says sears instead of ricoh, they go for way cheaper. the meter is broken, but the camera works fully mechanically without batteries. ive only used it once and an still one my first roll, but i couldnt resist a fully manual range finder that doesnt need batterys for $25. im taking it on vacation this week with me, so ill be able to test it out more, but so far i really like it.

Here's a few digital shots I've taken during breaks at work and messing around at home. I've managed to get all my bills payed for the month and i get paid tomorrow so im dropping my 18 rolls of film off. stoked to finally see all the shots ive taken since june.

That is near Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah.  Just outside of Salt Lake City.  This is a good time of year to not be in AZ.

I would honestly recommend the camera I still primarily use for my medium format work - the Yashica Mat 124G. I got mine for around $225 and it was only that much because it was CLAed by Mark Hama, who's like the big Yashica guy. But you can totally find good-working models on eBay for around $100. It truly is a workhorse and I have never had a problem with it during my 4ish years of shooting with it.

I wish that was me haha. Yeah, I'm really good friends with Patrick and he's usually right next to me when I'm shooting photos, day or night. Having someone who's that skilled at photography as a friend is a really incredible experience. I feed so much off of his skill and he's certainly one of my biggest influences, from style to work ethic.

Patrick's the one in the middle in the first photo I posted.
