i would totally suggest minneapolis/twin cities metro area as a place to move. winter is pretty brutal but you get used to it. there’s a lot of options - put some studs on the tires, skate indoors, hit the trainer, get fat and lazy til it’s nice out. the cycling infrastructure is good to great, generally. better than any other city in the US i have been to. all the mixed use/bike paths are great but there’s so much more like the single track scattered throughout the city and the river bottoms trail. skate scene is good too, there’s a ton of solid parks in the area and downtown of course.

This is the kind of stuff I'm interested in, riding a bike around is such a good way to experience a city.

If your back is hurting, you might need to look at your bike setup and bike fit.  Another thing people overlook is doing "glute bridges" and "clam shells".  Weak glutes and hip muscles can make you overuse other parts of your body causing pain.  Sometimes the lower back pain/strain is actually the psoas muscle.

I think it's from sitting on the bike for so long (like I normally ride BMX and almost never sit unless I'm waiting for someone or talking etc). Like I'm just not used to sitting on a bike seat. My back is fucked anyways, like I've had problems with it for years.

Got a new headset installed and did my first camp of the year. Gonna aim for at least once a month this summer/fall.

Thinking of getting some panniers to stash that gear and increase the amount of food/ a stove/ coffee rig to carry. Need an inflatable mat and I’m looking at the klymit v2 pad.  Need something that is light and small.

Sweet bike!  Yeah you will definitely need more storage if you want to bring more gear.  Panniers will really help, and a small half frame bag would be a good addition.  I have this one and it holds a surprising amount of stuff.  It also lets me keep my two water bottle cages.  https://www.decathlon.ca/en/p/half-frame-bike-bag-2-l-advt-500/374812/c70m8969670

I have this saddle below and it’s so comfortable. Makes you sit on your hip bones and does not cause taint rubbing. Anything from Terry, but entry level should work. I’ve had mine for 8 years and it’s still firm.

the xlite is kind of the standard.  tough and sleeps well.  if you are going to be out all summer a lightweight bag or just a silk bag liner depending on temperature would save a lot of space

Yeah I'm gonna swap the saddle for the one on my VTT as it cause's no problems to see if it's coming from that first. Its a selle italia with a channel cut.

I'll probably get a lighter saddle for my road bike thou but will test this first:

Free pile find. About 2015 Norco Yorkville. Hybrid comfort bike from a Canadian brand.  Jacked. Had a 26” front rim and mismatched wheels. I had an extra 700c front rim. Put some surly knard 700x41. Made some adjustments. Fixing this up for a coworker that said they want a bike.

Thanks for the recs on a half frame bag. Picked up a swift industries bag. Although they’re not USA made they had a sale recently.

Haha yeah. I respect his skills, ability to get through traffic and balls but that self entitlement where he is cutting off people and expecting everyone else to stop for him is bullshit. And touching other people’s cars as he rides by. I know it’s not that big of a deal but don’t touch other people’s cars. Fuck off with all that shit. I don’t expect him to live long if that’s how he rides everyday because someone is not going to put up with it or just doesn’t see him in time to and bye bye.

They're legit and carry awesome stuff. Assuming you're in the US, the downsides are that shipping will be expensive and then the tariffs are hit or miss. Some people get hit with a bill, others don't

I order from Blue Lug semi-often and don't remember getting hit with tariffs. Also the shipping cost and time is very reasonable.

I visited one of the shops when I was in Japan and it was great. Amazing people and insane inventory - I wish more shops like this existed in the US.

I’ve ordered twice from blue lug within the last year. The tariffs come later and have to be paid following a link. I think it’s like 10 or 20 percent within that range of however much the bill is I forget exactly. I’m in California. I bought backpacks both times and lots of reflectors and knick knacks.

I think Portland has simworks and a couple of other great bike brands/outdoors brands have stores up there. I wish the bay or LA had something like blue lug too. Blue heron in Berkeley is somewhat close and blue lug carries a lot of stuff from the bay so you could just hit up the brands directly sometimes. I haven’t been to Allez in LA but they seem like they have a good selection too. Lots of random mechanics and frame builders operating in industrial areas and homes in urban areas.
