This is a PR/brand awareness slam dunk given how much people are still debating the video. Meanwhile the Disorder video got like 20% of the comments. The fact that, controversy or not, Sci-Fi is more relevant or worthy of discussion than Nyjah's brand means that things are doing alright in skateboarding.
[close]

What a weird assumption to make. What even is this ‘debate’ you speak of?  It’s a decent video and great for the brand but none of that means much of anything
[close]

This video has 21 pages of posts the last 10 or so are people discussing whether or not they dislike it. NB Intervals had a huge budget and marquee pros and had 19 pages. In 4 days this video has more views than Intervals did in its first month. I'd say that qualifies as a debate.

[close]

Great for Jerry and his brand.  But I don’t think you know what this word means
[close]

Not a fan of disorder in the slightest but I’d say they probably pay better than sci-fi…which kinda is the important thing at the end of the day

Corey Glick ender shoulda been a redo, foot touched the floor, do people just not care about this shit anymore?

Agree on all the editors needing lined up and put down

You’re aging out of the culture and holding on to the past
[close]

You’re probably correct, a culture that promotes, excuses and encourages sloppiness ain’t for me. I ain’t down for SLS, Japanese robotic fuckery either, but c’mon. You got guys like Gustav, Tyler, the Sour boys, Ishod, Tiago and so many more putting out too notch skating who would never accept such sloppiness. I guess it’s all about standards, in the modern gen z instagram age these don’t exist.

I think there has been only two videos that feature both a butt focus and a caveman fakie flip fakie manual. Jerry is in both.

I really like the opening company logo graphic / music.

But obviously very derivative of 80s

Halfway through the 20s do we have any 20s fonts or identify of this decade or is recycling all that can be done
[close]

Living in a post-post modern era, I think "recycling" is basically it from here out. What new things can you conceive of?
[close]

I like the "post-post"

I guess that started when decades stopped having their own kind of vibe?

I can't think of anything new.

"Gen Z's fascination with the 1990s is a widespread cultural phenomenon driven by a mix of nostalgia, escapism, and a desire for authenticity. They weren't born in the 90s, but they've embraced the decade's fashion, music, and aesthetics, finding comfort and inspiration in its perceived simplicity and rawness"

recycle culture was already well underway in the nineties anyway. all of those old cartoon rip-offs with world industries, stereo and it's rehashing of blue note jazz album covers etc

nothing wrong with it, really. i thought the sci-fi video had enough of it's own character. definitely more than some other recent videos

The purpose of a video is advertising for a brand and showcasing skaters. This thread and the video come up when you Google anyone on the team or the brand. The discussion is going to make people want to see it unlike some videos that don't even get 3 pages of comments.

I think you’re giving the bloards too much credit

I watched the video again today of Xanax and I gotta say.
Sci fi straight up murdock’d the Disorber Video. Straight up savage style. Like Celebrity Death match claymation blood bathe types shit. This video is the beez. I even took the time to learn the whole teams names. So ima right a long review.
Gifted Spader was ill. Respect.  Everyone always talks about him so imma skip that. He did good.
Akwasi is in the running for Wall Ride In Style KINGG. Double G shit.
That pole jam 80 fakie manny combo was some godt tier shit that I fear people won’t understand the level of insanity it takes to get. And Zak. Tail slide nose manny. Gd. Manny wall ride manny gd again. Good stuff dope styles and excellent kits. Those two make me wanna wear Acics again.
Max is incredible.
He tail bonked a mailbox. In a line. He’s got a great fakie manny steez. He has the accidental gino spins. And he makes pumping a manny combo look g as fuck. I do that too. It’s tough.  && should be jello of us there. He did that Disco flip switch manny on the brick down pad. That might be the manny trick of the video. I liked it better than even that crazy ended.  Purple fucking halfcabs. HOT! Speaking of gear. I think he’s got some tricks on someone else’s bloard in this. Cuz they got two clips on ventures and they ride Indy’s.  The first fakes manny into bank and clutter and the 270 fakie nose piv on a bank.  They should switch all the way. Join Us! That crook pole jam was huge. They got it all. Dainty mannys to Ill front feebles over the rail power moves. That noise may roll on nose grinder. Sick. I love that guys skating a lot.

At this point I was thinking this has gotta be the high water mark and it’s all downhill from here. Especially with that song playing. But then Janet Jackson started playing. I fucking love Janet. I’m like oh shit….

Gabbe does the manny pop gap into the bank on the 60 mils that’s filmed from an angle that don’t do it justice. Fucking tough. Back to back 540s and all the 360 stuff. Flip grabs on the mini. Benihana axle set. Madness! Disappearing into a tree to end the part off the roof and through the grass to grandmother’s house we go. Fucking sick mini ramp part. Can’t say that often. Sick edit too. Whoever edited this should be outsourced to other blands for tutorials on how to be funky fresh.
Arin and Jerry. Excellent split part. Nollie Tre manny in the rain. Fs hslfcab flip manny 180. Jerry decimates the bank to pipe. I’d kill to have that spot around here. I’d go no where else. I think she did a flip nose slide fakie manny back 80.
Ryan.  I really don’t gotta say much. Everyone been knowing Ryan is godt tier. High speed lines. Long ass slides and grinds. He can’t possibly get paid enough by his blands. He had a Jahmal style into garage grind. That was my favorite clip in the video. Classy af. I love that shit. He’s got the tech “I could be on dgk or primitive “ over the ledge shuv to crooks type shit. He could nose blunt anything. Like anything at any speed. He’s going thought tunnels like Knox used to. Too bad they didn’t put the effect on it. That would’ve been dope as hell. Probably didn’t think of it cuz he was going so fast. Nose slide pop over to nbs. My second favorite trick in the video.
Ryan did my old signature trick from my teenage years switch 80 bag lady back to switch. I fucking loved that trick. In a line too. I’m pretty sure he switch flipped back t like two feet later. WTF?!? He is undeniably one of the greater skaters who ever lived. Nollie over the rail to narrow challenge tail break. If I could skate like anyone in the world and Bob ain’t an option if pick Ryan’s shit. What a god damned GANGSTA!

I watched that Corey part 2x too. Not counting the first time the other day when I scored a free totem pole. I swear to godt he’s gotta be a time traveler.
Some day they’re going to build a super style by combining Jim Greco’s DNA with Mark Gonzales’s DNA into one being. Make them skate from age 2 - whatever he is now and mail them back to us like the terminator to film this part.  He’s finna 270 into everything and push while grinding through banked banana ledges for our enjoyment. Oh fucking shit
I gotta practice at home alone. Bland is canceled tonight.
Tomorrow night I’m playing a show in providence. A 3 hour drive.  I’m playing with the murder junkies at alchemy with 2 other homie bands. I could yarn on about this video forever. Sci fi broke through to me today. Before this I thought they was good but now I know they’re tops. Not even like the lower part of tops. The top of the tops. Wholly Shyt!

Peace yall. Off I go get angry at my guitar. Hey…Who did Jerry skate too?.  I need to know plz

Back 5oh up pop over front blunt. That is the trick I forgot is my actual favorite of the video. Nothing else that dropped this year is better than this video. Maybe the Tfunk just edged them out? I know some won’t like that but the Funk is Top top dog over any and all tech dudes.

It’s official, Max is my new favorite sk8er. Dude has such a grace on his bord for a bigger guy and really like his trick selection.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this video and why it’s so intriguing. It’s got a rewatchability that’s on par with the first 917 video, Polar we blew it, and Boys of Summer.

Finally got to watch thisreally good. Lots of cool silly shit and some insane skating. Everyone came through, especially the kid doing back to back Ollie 540s on a 5ft mini ramp haha. Nice to see Ryan Lay finally get the respect he deserves.

“Joa thanks New Balance” was pretty funny on some Heath “Nobody. God and country” mindfield type thanking. dill not thanking anybody except the animal collective dude. Thanking people is cool, but someone in the video had to do it.

cool to see Jerry finally look like he’s just having fun. those emerica parts he did with the Stonecold type double knee injuries were obviously stressful and hectic as shit.

I know the proverbial horse has been beaten to the point is no longer identifiable as a horse but holy shit.
Arin is fronstside flipping over 8 stair handrails. The highlight of Beatrice career [trickwise] was a mf 50-50 on pyramid ledges. how much longer is she gonna do 2hour interviews about “how hard it is being these days”.

All around good shit.

I think I'm too old for this filming style - the extreme/quick zooms and pans between the skaters feet and face are dizzying and make it so hard to watch. Really bummed because I was looking forward to this one, but I'm glad to see others are liking the video, and I'm rooting for Sci-Fi.

Anyone know where this trend came from? Seems Strobeck is one of the worst offenders but I don't know if he's the one who started it or not.

I think the people saying this is like a Bronze video are funny. The only similarities are 3d graphics and skating. Bronze is so much more loud and hyper than Sci-Fi.

I'm Jerry's age and I thought the music was amazing. I've always had a soft spot for skate videos that venture a bit further from the classic soundtrack. I think the multiple partial songs per part were a good call to keep people's attention over the full 30+ minutes (and maybe helps with licensing?). Although I thought Max's song was perfect and 100% matched his personality, I will have to mute that shit in future playthroughs because "isn't the world a craaazy place" has been looping in my brain for the past week.

Overall though, I loved this. I hope there's more in the future. I bought some merch immediately after watching the video and I'm hoping a lot of other people did too so they'll keep making fun, creative videos. I'm old and I can't directly take the inspiration and apply it to skating, but videos like this that are at least somewhat thoughtful make me excited to think about different approaches in my other creative endeavors.

i might be a little too old for it but it wasnt bad. I was glad it was an actual full length with parts rather than just a hot mess of crap from everyone.

Lots of goofy stupid skating mixed with the real shit but thats the brands whole sort of image so it was all fitting.

Lots of weird clothes and manual roll on grind manual out shit. big spins every couple clips from everyone.

If i was 21 or something i would definitely love this. ITs all very tangible skating. way more focus on cool lil spots and just getting creative on it rather than doing something remarkable at every spot.

I was thinking Black Cat. Those lil breaks in the action low key reminds me of that. Wasn’t that Jerry’s first video? I can’t remember.
