Return to Silent Hill premieres Jan 23 with Christophe Gans returning as the director. Although the first movie is very loosely based on the first and third games in the series, I feel like it did a decent enough job of creating the feeling of Silent Hill and I genuinely think it’s a fun movie. Not a great one but fun nonetheless.
I have hope that, with this being directly based on SH2 OG, this will continue and improve upon Gans’ ability to bring the feeling and essence of Silent Hill to the big screen yet again. I am not expecting anything award winning as far as the dialogue and tie-ins to the game, but I hope it’s as much fun as his first foray into the living Purgatory of Silent Hill.

Tl;dr: I’m excited for Return to Silent Hill despite knowing it won’t be great or even good.

Send Help was very fun and very Sam Raimi.   Actors knew exactly the kind of movie they were making and the audience I was with was super into it

Works for me! The most in-color black and white movie I’ve ever seen the trailer for.

Imagine being the source for rips online and looking at the Melania doc. Could you bring yourself to doing it? Would anyone willingly seed it?

Does anyone have the official trailer link for "Buddy"?

All I can seem to find are fan versions.

It’s a Sundance movie - there won’t be a trailer until it gets distribution and a release date (if it doesn’t get bought by a streamer)

Finally got to see Sentimental Value in theaters, which I enjoyed.   I blame not really caring for Worst Person bc I saw it at home.   AMC is popping up with random screenings lately.

"Abraham Lincoln said watching Melania was the worst experience he's ever had in a theater."

Just saw Marty Supreme, I was amazed what a great movie this is. I’m not a film buff but it will be one of my favorites.
The scene where he’s explaining the purpose of his life was so well done and brutally honest.
And I rarely get emotional from movies but I was tearing up at the end.
Timothee has come off too immature for some of the roles I’ve seen him in, his role in Dune could’ve been improved with better casting, but this movie seemed like a perfect marriage of writing and acting.

It’s a double feature day of for me, now I’m watching the previews before Melania.

Strongly recommend Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.   Very funny, good use of Sam Rockwell.  Definitely more accessible than Send Help

This thread is like that fucking duolingo owl, always giving me anxiety about the things I need to keep up with. I'm always late to the game.

Saw the Housemaid with Amanda Seyfried/Sydney Sweeny. Not bad.

Linklater's Nouvelle Vague was actually good.

Is 'No Other Choice' still playing?

I keep hearing about Sentimental Value. Worth it?

I would highly doubt it at this point.   David Fincher was attached to it, but that was many many years ago.   I think F1 is kinda filling that role of blockbuster tentpole role for Brad Pitt/Plan B* who produced both, so I don’t think there’s any real urgency to go back to that.   The whole Fincher thing might have just been away to renew the option for the rights

*Fun fact: I interned at there the semester before WWZ1 came out

Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie is one of the funnier movies I’ve seen in some time.   Highly recommend

(It’s by the guys who did BlackBerry, but that won’t tell you much about this movie)

Marty Supreme. I really want to hate Chalamet but he’s pretty perfect in this. Every frame feels like a Norman Rockwell painting, perfectly gritty and ugly in a way that’s too beautiful. The casting is ridiculous. I was surprised by how much I liked this film. And the ending hit me hard.

Enjoyed Crime 101.   It’s obviously indebted to Heat and falls short, but it scratches an itch.

How to Make a Killing is fine.   Enjoyed watching it, but probably could have caught it on tv sometime in the future and been just as satisfied.   Trailers give away a little too much of the good stuff

Crime 101 gave me the biggest eyeroll I can remember.
The depiction of Hemsworth's "love life" was terrible. When the girlfriend pleadingly says something along the lines of "I like you... but I don't know anything about you" it just boggled my mind. What would that imply about her? What could she like... other than his looks, that would endear him to her? He had zero charisma and evaded all of her questions.
To be honest I fell asleep and woke up during the climax... oh well, the opening scenes were cool.

My AMC membership ends in a few days, planning to clean the palette with the Goat today and rewatch Nirvanna ... O-bama!

Nirvanna is so good.   I think my theater laughed at the wrong part of the hangover joke which slightly ruined the punchline

Agreed on that stuff w/ crime 101 and there’s tons of stuff like why Nolte would ever involve the motorcycle guy, but i just there were enough enjoyable things before those that I was just along for the ride
