I think many of us have got something we could contribute to this topic, and the discussions in general on the boards. But I think the main thing you should contribute is silence.

^ Epic. And on point. 👊

I waited, was just going to leave this whole thread on read, but then thought hopefully a positive contribution could help, more so than nothing.

This is the first and only sticker / logo I bought for the shop since maybe 2019 of any Indy stuff and I think it actually works really well, at least better than the truck hanger or diamond.  The INDEPENDENT bar is also a pretty good one as is, but I like a little more, such as this one - the word with the circle.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

It looks like they’re bringing it back. I think NHS did some marketing research and found that not many people actually view the old logo in a negative light.

Dude what the fuck is up with Hewitt's obsession with that logo? Kinda hyped Nike fired his dumb ass all those years ago. Repping this under a fascist government has got to be one of the lowest shit skateboarding has stooped to. Absolute embarrassment. Gotta mention with all the Maga allegations against Joslin there ain't a Nazi symbol in sight on his Indy stuff (or am I just not finding it?)
He has it inked on the inside of his left bicep

Thank you.

See? The logo needs something in the middle to not look horrible.

I still like the diamond, but this does look pretty good.
Thanks y’all. It’s been fun.

Tony Hawk and Powell have been using the iron cross for over 40 years but there's no call out on them?

When you look at (1) the actual Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse or Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse awards, (2) the Indy logo, and (3) the background on Hawk's old deck...two of them look very, very, very similar to each other. The other, has enough deviation that a normal person would be a bit hard pressed to group them all together.

Moreover, one has since been co-opted by turboclowns, and the other hasn't.

More-moreover, one of them actually put out a shirt with the FULL image of the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, complete with ribbon, leaving NO QUESTION or AMBIGUITY as to what the reference was.

I would scratch the cross off the baseplate pretty quick doing slide tricks, so maybe the best marketing ploy would be to issue an updated logo for 2026: an iron cross with slide marks pre-drawn thru it and have a whole campaign based around "Finish the job. Slide the indy logo completely off your trucks and tag us in your post. Anyone that slides thru to the pivot cup gets a free pair." They could lay into the whole "skateboarding is freedom, fascism isn't" shtick...while keeping the iron cross and then make money from all sides. Yay capitalism!

To my eyes, the contours resemble the iron cross more than the pope's cross, especially the curvature of the outline. The story to me seems like historical revisionism to cover their asses. My take with this kind of stuff is always I respect the people more who just own up to their conservatism or right wing tendencies than the people who dog whistle and deny while constantly skirting with the imagery and aesthetic. It comes off as passive aggressive.

Maybe Indy can just say that flirting with Nazi style was the original intent of the design but we're not a racist company?

The old punk ethos was kind of "if we're pissing people off, we must be doing something right." And everyone from Sid Vicious to David Bowie to Ozzy to Lemmy played with this aesthetic for various purposes. It was nihilistic and anarchist. And the old Venice Beach skaters loved that Nazi stuff. But the people who get to signal this way in today's climate are of a particular demographic, usually white, male boomers. And it doesn't challenge the status quo but rather reinforces a slide into the normalization of far right wing symbolism. Make of that what you will.

Crazy people freaked out so hard when they got rid of it
It literally doesn't matter it's just trucks
Lotta people outed themselves as kooks at the very least

bringing it back and those buttheads think they won something is kind of a bummer

Tim pool fucking sucks

Everything everyone has already said

I just wanted to say for the record
This is the cross they're saying was the inspo for it

But the story seems fishy

Like Jerry not knowing about gifted haters online presence

Here is the symbol of the XVI Army Corps of the Union Army during the American Civil War.

Spoiler alert: It's exactly the same cross used by Indy

OMG! The swastika is an ancient symbol?’!? Must be totally cooll to use that as a brand symbol in 2025!

The Pope wearing something similar is also another reason to get rid of it.

All of the (very valid) real world ethical concerns aside - how whack and pitiful is it that being a "rebel" heshlord skater in 2025 has you rocking the same symbol as: The Catholic Pope, the Army and Neonazis. I mean, fuck, why don't you also slap a Star of David, a Taliban flag, a Shell Petroleum logo and a Tesla sticker on there while you're at it?!

there is a japanese buddhist church that is popular in san jose that has these inscribed on the benches... and yeah not sure who to direct that issue to as the church does these social / liberal events all the time

This is kinda a what about Bidenism

I called it out on this board. And It’s not that I think that the bird man was intentionally racist in any manner.
But His model was literally called the iron cross until around 1990. Not the chicken scull or whatever we call it now. I think Tony was just taking up the space in an already toxic environment.

It was trendy at the time to be a dickhead.

Both Alf and Grosso and plenty of other have spoken.

I buy dlx shit. Cuz hanging klansmen are the Shit. That really was the first mass produced response to all that swastika bs.

I’d fuck with Everbody Skates if I could afford a ginormous bloard and not 210s but something else

I heard from some people in the know that none of the top dudes at indy or nhs wanted to lose the cross but that it’s mostly younger ppl who buy trucks so they needed to appeal to them

No, as posted earlier, the logo was initially rejected for looking too Nazi but Jim Phillips found a picture of the Pope rocking a similar cross to justify it, instead of tweaking the design or picking something else.

“ABOUT OUR LOGO

Since the late 1970s, Independent Truck Company has used the rounded cross as its logo. It was chosen for its strength, balance, and bold design.

From the beginning, it has represented hardcore skateboarding and a commitment to building the best trucks for the best riders.

The Independent rounded cross is not a flat-sided Iron Cross. They are different symbols, and the rounded cross has never been a hate symbol.

Independent Truck Company has never supported racism or hate in any form. We believe skateboarding is a force for good, bringing people together worldwide.

For more than 45 years, our logo has been a positive symbol for the millions of skateboarders that have rolled with us.”

The geriatric edgelords at NHS have to bullshit themselves and others just so they can use a questionable logo, even though they already spent money redesigning and implementing the new logo, just so they can appease Tim Pool viewers.
