Just a regular doctors sign on a street near me. This cross is pretty normal here in Europe, I see it a lot.

Personally, I had never connected the Indy logo to the right wing, until it was withdrawn. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t though.

I think it was probably an own goal losing the logo but fuck all the snow flakes whining on every post for it to return… just for that alone I wish never to see it again.

Indy have lost their independence twice now. I do not wish to skate their trucks again.

Makes me wonder if the far-right dollar will/has become a force for evil similar to how the gay dollar emerged as a force for good a while ago

In the summer I was at a local park and some dude wearing an old Indy cross long sleeve came up to me while I was taking a breather to rant about Indy and how they changed their logo and how now their trucks suck. Kept whining about it for a good ten minutes and during that time I noticed he had two lightning bolts tatted on his forearm. Have two friends that also skate that park tell me they have had the same interaction with him.

Now the likelihood that all skaters that are whining about the logo change are Nazis is extremely slim, but that dude is all I think about now when I see people crying in the comments about it. Always thought it was weird how people felt it was a bad look for Independent to stop using a symbol that was used by Nazis and the only interaction I had with someone who felt that way was most likely a Nazi.

Also Thunders are better anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So he was a thunder fan now because of the lightning bolt tats? Confused?
They laughed when I told my friends that I was going to be a comedian.....well they are not laughing now!

Usually associated with the SS (e.g. the bolt tattoos).

it shouldn't be that hard to design a decent logo and move on. or if they can't settle on one just keep switching it up. Burton has had literally hundreds of logos over the years

There's a problem with these forums where everybody wants to participate, but there's really only two stances on most issues, so once certain positions get hidden a couple pages back we just go in loops.

I have noticed at shops, parks, social media and most likely here - only white people have opinions about indy and the old iron cross logo

Not trying to get anyone canceled but why is Peter Hewitt repeatedly posting the cross logo stickers and shirts on instagram?

It's pretty simple, he's advertising for his sponsor, and probably getting a couple thousand bucks in return

Philosophical problem with society really. We live our lives babbling and repeating ideas not our own. Also shed your binary thinking/categorization

This discussion about an image (the cross in this case) and its meaning can also be better understood in light of some Roland Barthes and the process he described as Signification. Briefly, an image (the cross) can be an abstraction of an idea that’s an abstraction of some reality/concept (the truck). Within these layers of abstraction meaning morphs and our biases don’t match therefore here we are in circles getting closer to some shared alleged truth.

people always tell me to stop seeing binaries but like, you either wanna see more of it or you don't y'know? What else is there to say? Everyone always says nothing's black and white to me but like, hey genius, thats a black and white statement according to your rules.

What you say about abstraction is true tho, I see it happen time and again people arguing when they're not even on the same point.

Can anybody ever really convey what they truly mean tho? Like the words that convey a thought may not neccessarily constitute the thought itself. There's a name for this I don't remember. And that meme.

It's especially hard through certain people's like language lens. Like a born philosopher raised on Eazy-E or smth.

Just goes to show knowledge is power.

I'll read that link thx for the naalidge tho. Love this place. Love you.

If no one else wants to make old Indy cross logo t shirts and stickers that say “slap message board” instead of “Independent Truck Company”, then fine… I’ll do it.

Someone already alluded to this...but if your brand logo is generating substantial consternation, divisiveness, and controversy...your marketing department is doing something horribly wrong.

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think that many people are even aware of any of the logo politics aside from slap and the chuds who leave “bbtc” comments on every Indy post. The average skater isn’t even paying attention.

Anyone who has looked at the comment section of any Indy social media posts in the last five years is aware.

Seeing White Monster getting banned is like catching a whiff of the smell from the local five star birria taco truck in a field of raw sewage.

I’ve been skating since the mid 80’s and the only place I’ve ever seen anyone mention the cross (as some kind of issue) has been on the internet. Also probably only in the last few years. I feel like everyone else is living their lives instead of complaining on message boards and instagrams

right. like imagine having to publish this page to your website https://independenttrucks.com/our-logo (and the page isn't a brand style guide but a pleading justification of the logo usage) instead of just making a new logo
