I think this is a popular opinion but I am riffing off of the last couple posts. I don’t like Nike, I don’t buy/wear Nike (even non-sb).  That said, at this point Nike paid its dues. It’s been in the game longer than most skater owned shoe brands and put more money in more skaters pockets than any brand. They make lots of videos and put shine on a variety of skaters.

When Nike first entered people were afraid of a possible rug pull, but skater owned brands rug pull too as soon as the numbers look bad.  All shoes are made in sweatshops by slaves, what’s the fucking difference? Or is soletech manufacturing somehow ‘more ethical’? Doubt.

Dunks are my favorite shoe to skate in, so I typically buy a fresh pair, wear them as my day to day shoes for a few months until they start getting a little dirty, buy a fresh set and downgrade the previous pair to my skate shoes.
Sneakerheads would probably hate my guts for all the dunk colorways I've destroyed in the past few years.

Having said that, right now I'm skating in Adidas Tyshawn 2s right now and they might literally be the toughest shoe I've ever worn. Not sure if it's normal or I happened to get an exceptionally sturdy pair, but I'm very hard on shoes, and I'm at least 15 sessions in on these T2s and they barely even look skated in.

Aw, here I go again…

The difference is that nike started the sweatshop approach, and nike is big enough to change that approach if they wanted to.

They don’t want to.

Meanwhile, all the other shoe brands, even OG skate brands, are swimming in a pool that nike created. They’re not blameless for participating, but they don’t have the pull to change the entire industry.

Nike does. So they’re culpable.

I don’t know how folks here feel about Tyshawn Adidas so not sure if unpopular or not but the shoes fucking rule. I’ve had a bunch of pairs of 1s (lows and mids) and 2s. They’re great! And they go on sale all the time

Haven't had them myself, but my son has been using them. I can vouch for the durability as I'm the one with the shoe goo duties. He goes through shoes pretty fast and these outlast the others at 2 to 1 at least...

Skateline may have been corny at times but it was a solid way to get a quick update on what happened in skateboarding every week and I wish they would bring it back.

Wearing Hoodies and beanies is just like wearing a helmet and pads in the streets.

No joke as a kid if I was worried I’d put a beanie or hoodie on.

Also a few years ago I was dicking around on a parking curb some how stuck or something on a front board on a parking curb and hit my head so hard. Glasses flew off I jumped up kinda confused saw spots. Had a goose egg in retrospect I prob had a concussion. But I had a beanie on and it got a tear on it from this. Idk if it helped me from getting knocked out or did nothing. I won’t front board shit anymore.

Sticking on front board has gotta be one of the most traumatic feelings in skateboarding. I’m of the opinion that some people’s bodies aren’t set up for certain tricks and that’s one of those ones you either got or you don’t. I don’t

I had a traumatic front board stick that is one of my gnarliest slams. I was out skating with two friends and we were just chilling at this spot, getting out of the sun for a bit - it's not really a skate spot, but there are some metal benches there you can boardslide. The bench in question didn't have armrests like this one, but had the same spaced metal slat kind of design. So it's usually a fun, bumpy boardslide. .
I had boardslid these benches plenty of times before, but was dicking around on a board that had rails on it and just didn't think at all about the rails going in between the metal slats and got immediately pitched at high speed straight onto the back of my head. It was absolutely fucked.

Just reading about your slams doing front boards gives me goosebumps. I’ve never gotten stuck, but the opposite has happened to me: the lower half of my body kept sliding while the upper half didn’t follow my feet, so I fell straight on my chest. Out of the few slides/grinds I’m able to do, it’s the one that scares me the most along with backside 50-50.

Another front board slam: Back in HS I had a round flat bar that I'd sometimes skate in the road. Rails always freaked me out, but I got fairly comfortable on this flat bar.

I was feeling confident one day after a good session, so I started trying some front boardslides. Stuck on one, and fell onto the rail with my spine pretty much perfectly aligned with the rail. It wasn't actually that bad, but it freaked me the fuck out.

Not a front board slam but going fakie up a long concrete bump to road. It had grass either side, and was about as narrow as a normal sidewalk.

Hit the edge, pitched backwards right onto the back of my head.

It was my favourite spot, and I had good cabs out of it. The bump really pitched me nicely on fakie tricks. Fun as hell to do.

I couldn't go back.

Not sure if it's the right thread but I don't like how the Thunder TIIs look.

They remind of some video game trucks (THPS or whatever), very standard looking, even more than regular Thunders (which are tastefully standards IMO)

I could agree with that. I know it doesn't make sense but it feels like I have to pop higher to get into frontside tails, not sure why.

Switch frontails are easier for me because they are basically nollie noselides and switch 180s mixed, I still haven’t figured out switch back tails but I’m gonna see if they are indeed easier
