I started wearing a helmet a couple years ago at my wife's insistence and it took some adjusting to but now it just feels normal

I thought helmets were super uncool when I was 13 and it was very liberating to stop being concerned with what that twerp thought
Well yea, you’re like 45. I would sure hope you don’t care about whats “cool” anymore

I think I wore a helmet every now and again at the park when I was skating with a dude who was full on team helmet. He had just had a 5 day stay at the hospital and always wore a helmet after that. However, since he was a pretty gnarly transition skater the helmet didn't seem out of place.

I think I would have died in middle-school if the park my mom took me to didn't force helmets. I don't know what the fuck was wrong with me but not even able to really ollie, I tried dropping in (did not go well) and tried doing a boardslide on a super waxed parking block. I went straight to the back of my head on that board slide. Helmet saved me for sure. I still think about that fall today.

Unless we find a way to considerably slim down the profile of current certified helmets they will never ever look cool let's face it. But you know what's even less cool? Repeatedly punching your best friend, who's spasming in a pool of his own blood and vomit, in the stomach as hard as you can to get him to throw up again so you can push your fingers between his clenched teeth and scoop out the puke to get him to start breathing again.

I get the liberal standpoint to a degree but some people don't like the idea of compulsory healthcare  either and at some point you gotta draw the line between personal freedom and outright stupidity. I grew up snowboarding and never saw anyone but the biggest kooks and skier dads wearing a helmet in my ressort. Nowadays you will be the odd one out and get called out by some of the locals if you pull up to the terrain park without a helmet. I get that skateboarding is a different beast but maybe instead of enforcing helmets we at least turn away from the fetish like obsession with the most death defying shit that these incidents tend to happen on (namely big stairs and rail moshing)

Helmets would ruin watching pro parts for me. Instant style killer. Nyjah probably wants to die on a handrail so he can go to skate Valhalla

For Pete’s sake, easily the worst slam from a Pro all time.

Godspeed Nigel.

Jake Brown's epic ejection from the mega quarter to flat bottom at xgames in 2007 might take the cake, but Nyjah's is up there with the best of them.  He straight-up Tombstoned himself off that rail (shout out Undertaker).

There's a local here (maybe he's on this messageboard) that has put out at least a few video parts while wearing a helmet and I still enjoy watching him skate. And I am three days old
There was no wire. Clark's planet needed him.

A lot, not majority, of the younger rippers are wearing helmets in the streets, and I'd say for the most part it's being accepted.

For what it's worth, for how little money is in snowboarding, I'd be wearing a helmet. Looking cool for a company that has you on flow ain't worth a TBI
You all getting spoon fed a comfortable place.

That was horrible. Glad he made out better than anything else that could’ve happened. Wonder if this will change his skating in the future.

It's a lot more mixed than Street skating. I'd guess about 30-40% of them wear helmets these days. But the super cool Kids like dustbox still don't

Not sure if it’s been said but does anyone know what trick he was going for before the slam? I can’t tell if it was a feeble or a crook but it could’ve been anything I guess.

his neurodivergence isn't the same as gabbers since gabbers would do it solely for stim, nigel only does anything to be able to continue to rail lines and blondes

100% feeble grind.

That trick gets a lot of hate, but I’ve always liked Scott Johnston’s and Templeton’s. Also Arto’s random feeble to salad 180 out in Sorry. Carroll, too.

Was watching This Is Skateboarding last night and enjoying some templeton feebles. It actually made me really sad that he doesn't skate anymore - he has great style.

Nice club breaking down the fall @9:00...not seen this new format and it's lame Channel nine...lol ok Andrew Callaghan
No discussion about safety in skateboarding of course...a lot of feeble technique discussion
-Kelly said that this won't phaze nigel and won't deter him
-Crob thinks it's just "freak accident"
-JW says he'll keep it moving

Lots of cyclists use them around here. They are quite heavy around your neck. Also, they only work once. You don’t want to have to use a new one after every single semi serious bail.

Well seeing it on the 9 club proves the authenticity of the footage, finally. Every year I'm more and more disappointed in how far the sport is falling. Imagine if everybody got scared and mandated helmets after Heath Kirchart's falls. A gnarly slam used to gain you as much respect as a make in this industry. People proudly showed their slam and didn't try to hide it
