although I am the biggest (non baby) Jah hater there is definitely a sizeable difference between being a big rail skater vs being an NHL goon for 21 years

I saw your mom do a ollie to cooch drop straight down the big black pole, it was gnarly. she defiantly shut that shit down

they dont use nets in the circus, they dont use helmets in street
it is part of what makes it exciting. if Jeremy Wray's water tower ollie had a net underneath, it obviously would not be as gnarly. adding more flips, shoves, stances, rotations in and out of pinched grinds is not interesting to most people = doesn't generate as much revenue.

Nyjah is obviosuly aware there is a connection between good clips and earning cash. interestingly enough, if you watch the tour video he put out recently he talks about greed. but he is talking in the sense of trying to add more complicated tricks to the end of an already banging line. this was before the first slam. a trip where they went with homeys with days build in between skating to actually just take it easy a bit. In the end though, his greed will be his downfall.

Like father like son…Nigel’s dad’s greed ruined his relationships and forced him to live in Puerto Rico.  Dude also doesn’t have a high school education so I doubt he thinks he needs long term cognitive abilities

Nothing to do with anything, but yesterday some woman from Arizona called me asking to speak with Nyjah and wouldn’t elaborate. I’m wondering if it was an AI scam.

Anyways, fuck that guy, but this is kinda funny.

The two areas in skating where helmets are not only acceptable, but generally required are in halfpipe snd downhill. And it’s from the speed, the way you fall when riding in the streets and the way you fall when whipping out in the transition or high-ending in a fast stand-up slide matching around a corner are very different.

Nyjah is kind of on a different level than 98% of other street skaters, and the risks are that much more. While we are probably ok without a bucket, there’s a point in the risk/reward where it’s probably a good idea.

All these detailed, insightful posts about vert/transition being fucking terrifying and difficult and I somehow still don't give a single shit about Greyson Fletcher

Yeah, this would have definitely killed Jake Brown.

Another one of these might be the end for Nyjah. SOTY definitely ain't worth it at this point. Same goes for Gabbers and Delfino.

Man I feel like he would have so much fun if he were into the niche freeride community. If he really really wants to skate the biggest hugest infrastructure, like dams, flood districts, and national monuments, it takes pads and weird mutant skateboards. He's all locked into the core street gear and it's blinding him to the big wild frontiers that he seems to be truly lusting for. 13 years ago, he threw shade at the downhill skater women in Thrasher, so idk if the scene would let him in.

Is there really a sizeable difference? If so, I suspect it may be the inverse of what you're suggesting...

By the way, 10 o’clock at the Upland park is not at all that difficult to do since it’s a slightly downhill run.

It’s more about “do you really want to be up there?”

Your insides will feel like you’re on a roller coaster ride loop except you’re not on a track.

It’s the best worst feeling I’ve experienced on a skateboard.

So happy younger me was so determined to get near all those stickers other skaters had slapped to mark their territory in the pipe (I never had the gall to multitask existing in the oververt and laying a hand down to place a sticker).

I have seen upland park in old thrasher magazines
ive heard people get like helicopter medivacs from slamming there, is this true? I’d believe it anyway lol

I'd say so as a hockey fan. You're just more likely to smack your dome playing hockey in general, add to the fact he had 41 fights over his NHL career and even more at other levels—not to mention regular ass hockey hits, he was hitting his head at an astronomically higher rate than any skater. Of course skaters can (and unfortunately will) get CTE and we're definitely gonna start seeing it as the years go by, but not to the degree that I think we'll see it in hockey or other sports.
