I live in an area with rough asphalt and brick floors.

Anybody has experience with cruiser wheels for rough (er) surfaces? Currently trying to choose between 60mm oj's or 65mm duster wheels, both 78a, will probably get the dusters tho
I'd say the OJs. My 55mm Super Juice's are amazing and fast as hell. Plus I couldn't go above 60mm regardless of what size/shape deck they were on.

Here’s the top of the hammers board

It’s 8.25 at the widest

Thanks! While I'd personally rather have a slightly wider deck and I'd wish the nose was a little less round, that shape still looks super nice.

For a cruiser where you are pushing a lot, I’d recommend 60mm max. I’ve tried 63 and 66mm but the added height of risers and wheel makes pushing more uncomfortable imo, especially long distance.

I’d only go more than 60mm if you’re riding downhill
or a gnarled ditch or full pipe like glory hole (cheese grater surfaces). Downhill on a giant wheel drastically increases your speed

I mean....yeah. I don’t hear about people liking the Indy turn more than Ace. You can make arguments for Indy I suppose....for just straight up ‘gliding, turning, Gesmaring’ aka cruising....ace.

Both of the rides on this page look fun. Belknap why did you take out the stock bushings? They are so good!

I only swapped out the bushing washers. I was standing on it in my kitchen after I set it up, so I could get a feel for the trucks, and when I picked it up I noticed that one of the bushings had “popped” out. Taking the advice of another poster in the Ace trucks thread, I decided to use the Independent washers that I had in my survival kit. I’ve only ridden it to the liquor store once so far, but no “popped” bushings yet...

Oh right on. I haven’t had any bushings “pop” but the ones in my copper 55s are crooked. The board veers right when you just push it in front of you. But once I’m on it it doesn’t affect the turning at all.

My 55's are the same - doesn't bother me at all but is worth noting.

At work in in the warehouse area. I’m pretty sure I know who it is, there’s only one warehouse guy sketchy enough to take it, but I can’t prove it. This dude has apparently stolen and pawned peoples shit off from there before. He doesn’t skate so he’ll probably try to sell it for cheap or something.

Aces are great, they’re just higher maintenance. The only trucks where I’ve had to replace pivot cups (multiple times). Something about how they turn, albeit really well, blows them out. But I’m also speaking from when you’ve skated them already then switching them to a cruiser setup, rather than a brand new set straight to cruiser.

I'm looking to set up my first cruiser. I've had my eyes on this Santa Cruz Hosoi deck for awhile: https://www.oldskullskateboards.com/santa-cruz-old-school-hosoi-mini-rocket-air-re-issue-deck/
Most here recommend Aces I will go for them.

Should I go with the Ace 55s or the 66s? It seems to be tapering quite a bit. Any help would be appreciated  :)

You should ask the shop what they recommend or ask them to measure the width over the trucks. That is a wild taper and my guess would be 55s but maybe they'd even be too wide. Keep in mind Hosoi probably rode that shape with 159 or 169s though. One way or the other, Oldskull should be able to help you out.

Yes. Its fun. But will tip over really easy and send you down fast. Tracking down a rollerskate and sawing it in half for the trucks was fulfilling.

Thats why I'm kinda interested in it, I like the connection to history. You know, like a nerd. Whats the length on that? I'm wondering if I couldn't cut one out of an old deck.

classic lookin zinger  8)

Here's my hammers cruiser. had this deck hanging on the wall for like 4 years. i was looking at it recently and the shape was too sick not to skate

Hammers USA 8.25" x 31.5"
Indy 149 / 92a conical bushings
Flip FKD bearings
Acid Chemical Co. Pods 55mm 86a conical shape
Cliche hardware
Jessup

wheels are pretty flush, stick out a mm or two on the tail

How have the FKD bearings held up for you? and what abec?

I used to run the abec 5's for years but have this weird superstition about abec 7's lol

They're solid -- ABEC 5.
i got em for $5 a couple years ago and they've outlasted bones race reds and andale guy mariano bearings that have been bought and tossed since
