After some conversations in the Indy thread I decided to get some Indy 109s. Then I had the idea to cut down my recently skated 8.38 14.5wb easy rider eagle into a slightly longer, slightly wider, longer wheel base zip zinger shape. I've had my zip zinger for like 8 years or so, so it's getting kinda soft. Here's how I did it. Ask and you shall receive @Mbrimson88 .

After pulling the grip off the easy rider I used a clamp and two hardware bolts on the nose to keep the boards lined up while i started tracing the outline. I decided to use the nose on the easy rider as the tail for the new board because of how the shape of the zip zinger lined up on it. Using the larger nose gave me more room for error since the tail of the zip zinger was longer and came to basically the end of the tail on the easy rider.

[close]

Yeah that looks great.

As I said in the Indy thread, I think how flat the Easy Rider concave is would work well with that kind of setup too, not too much, or practically flat works well from a cruiser perspective.

The rest of the progress pics are amazing to see too!!!

* I used to have a small giveaway business going, where people would give me their old boards, usually worn down in the tail, so I would turn them around so the long and almost never used nose was the new tail, cut it slightly straight right across the end, so keeping almost all the length, reshaping the boards depending on what they started with and usually cutting the nose down into a bit of a point, or stubby rounded off or even semi squared off too.

They worked really well for a lot of people as a cruiser, often set up on old trucks that they had spare, then soft wheels or even normal wheels sometimes as people wanted to skate them as fun park boards, but any which way, it was cool to reuse so many old normal boards and turn them into something cool like that.

Your board looks pretty much perfect now for a fun ride.

Yea, thanks man I'm stoked on it. Super fun. I'm gonna take it for a spin this morning once the rain dries up.

Another reason I used the nose was that it wasn't as worn out as the tail in terms of stiffness.

Just figured it would feel more "new" this way. The easy rider looks nearly symmetrical in nose/tail angles so I figured it didn't really matter.

Edit: also cool you used to run that upcycling type of program. I remember when they had something similar at SPoT events for a while, wanna say it was element or prof Schmidt running it? Or both maybe? Idk

Element had the No Board Left Behind project, Donny Barley making cruisers from old boards, pretty sick tbh.

First mistake, I did not shift the bolts to the back truck when tracing the rear of the deck, this would have caused the tail to be too short. So I traced the rear of the deck again with a different color.

After I got my template straight I used a jigsaw and started cutting. I went to the outside on most of my lines since I wanted it to be abit wider and longer. I did end up freehanding a bit too.

Finished cutting it out and was pretty stoked on it. Ended up being about a half inch longer. And maybe 1/8 inch wider all around, with slightly less taper to the rear.

After that, I had a decision to make. @yourbreakfsat suggested I get a router to do the edges properly and I didn't have one. This was kind of a budget project, so I decided not to buy a new tool for this and just sanded the sharp edges down with 60grit and went around the outline on the board to try and smooth out any areas I didn't do too good on with the jigsaw. Then I used 120 grit to finish and it came out super smooth. No, it's not perfectly rounded off like a proper skateboard, but it's good enough for the intended purpose.

Unfinished edge

Finished edge

Gripped it up, put some riptides in my new 109s and set it all up for a little celebration session.

Width is really nice, wheels hardly show at all. Can't even tell from this pic.

Board is super fun. Damn thing feels like a polarizer almost. The narrow trucks give it a crazy feeling turn. I really enjoy the extra length/wheelbase since I'm pretty tall (6' 4") and have long legs. Strangely enough, nollies feel really good on this thing?

Bonus pic of my cruiser quiver. Sorry for the long ass post. Hopefully someone finds this interesting lol.

That’s awesome, great breakdown. Nice quiver too

Was thinking about building a good cruiser/filmer situation for Alaska, kinda water/mud resistant and as indestructible as I could make it...

- 9" Powell flight popsicle (my last cruiser was a flight deck and I ran that thing in the rain all the time and it never got soggy, really impressed with them)
- seismic tail skids to keep the deck alive as long as possible (I regret not putting skids on my last cruiser as it's pretty razor tailed)
- Powell hardcore grip (super coarse, could still do all my tricks with mud all over the grip)
- loaded button head hardware (doesn't sink in more and more over time from occasionally re-tightening)
- 3/8" lil jawns slop jars risers (maybe 1/2" customs for extra space?)
- Indy 169's, hollow/cast
- 66mm 82a Powell snakes (after some research, psyched to try these out)
- ceramic bones reds, shields on, extra speed cream (rode these in the rain a ton/a lot of times just left to dry overnight in my house and there was very little maintenance required, I was stoked how well they do)

It's gonna fuck. Probably gonna cover the entire graphic with stickers and put rails on it too. Will definitely post when it's done, Alaska board v2, monster truck dirt board edition

82 snakes are the best cruising wheels I've ever had. Hillbombs, transport, pump tracks.... You can slide them also. I wore mine down pretty fast. I tried the 59mm and have some 66s up next.

Swapped out my zip zogger for the baby Beamer. This is usually my liquor store, around the neighborhood board but I like to switch it up every once in a while.

Definitely a big change from the 30” zogger to the 35” Beamer, but so far it’s super fun. It does hot rod like crazy so I may switch out for a narrower wheel like a classic.

Finally retiring my Drehobl Krooked board which I used for a bit more than a year as a filmer/cruiser board. I really wanted to keep going with it but it was becoming very soggy/waterlogged. I really have a special feeling for that one which is the one I set up for recovery after being run over while bombing a hill (hence the shitty grip job). I was skating a bunch with it for the past month or so and landed a lot of tricks I hadn't done before.

Keeping it moving going for a smaller board from the brand I have. it's 8.7 at it's widest point and must be like 8.38 at the back trucks. I dig the hot rodding, it took a couple of days to get used to it but I'm happy to finally be able to set it up.

Ex-Board: Krooked Dan's Rig 9.25 using the 14.25 wheelbase
Word Is Bond 8.7
Thunder 161s
Powell Dragons 93a originally 56mm must be at around 51-52mm
Shake Junt Night Train Bearings mixed with Reflex Abec 3s which were on a set up of mine like 17 years ago.
Shake Junt Risers
Shortys 1 1/8 Bolts
Mob Grip

Decided to put together a crusier during a conference call today. I haven’t skated that Dane 1 for 2-3 years and after sitting in my garage for years the tail still cracks.

Ace 55–Always road Indy’s on this deck.
Rough Riders 59mm
1/4” risers

It’s like an old pair of shoes.

What board would you put with 8.25 (145) lurpiv that I’m not using with 59mm g-slides ? I was thinking maybe shaped deck (anyway maybe something funnier than my popsicle) but ideally not too heavy. Would you use riser on a setup like that ?
There’s 1991jr / p9 polar at my local or some welcome « son of » shaped 8.38. Would they be any good choices ?

Polar p9
Pepper grip
Lurpiv 145
Bones G-Slides 82A - 59 mm
Quantum ceramic berrings - they were stuck several times on my main setup and had to clean them frequently so I retired them and reusing now

So happy about this setup it’s just so enjoyable to go grab some food - the wheels do slide and are a dream to roll on. The pop and weight is a bit unusual for me but it’s a dream to roll. overkill but I never really tried them as. The trucks are overkill , I wanted to try them but im  happy with my slappies on my main setup so I’m giving them a new life on this cruiser

These were always 2 of my favorite graphics, don't care what Blender said, so i had to get the reissues.  Santa Cruz is running Indys and dragon formula mini cubics and swiss, just got it setup, havent rode it yet.  Skeletal 2 with BAKU gullwings and Powell mini cubics with Rockin Rons, haha.

Considering trying risers to alleviate wheel bite when doing tricks. Why am I trying to do tricks on this thing? Thinking about soft slide wheels because not being able to power slide is for the birds. Should probably leave well enough alone and just stay with the 4 x 4.

Willis Kimbel tribute:
Creature 9”x33”, 15” wb
Independent 159s
Independent 92a conical bushings
OJ thunder juice 75mm
Quantum atoms
1/2” risers

I resisted buying the thunder juices for years because I thought they were an unnecessary purchase, but I use my cruiser a lot more now after putting them on. I had 60mm super juices on it before.

Like the previous poster, I had the Quantums on my daily but retired them to cruiser duty. They were super fast for the first few months, but then one of them seized up. I cleaned them and they’re good now, but lots of nasty stuff came out when I cleaned them. I ran them through two rounds of cleaning before lubricating them. I wonder if its the graphite lube that causes them to get so dirty. I usually clean my bearings 2-3 times a year and they’re never that dirty

Word up. I should try the risers, I'm asking a lot of these wheel wells with 60s. I used to rock the 55s but figured I go big and kicked them to a friend.

I also had a set crack on me. OJ's customer service was incredible though. There was a 2 week wait on replacements so they offered me 2 sets of other wheels if I wanted. I just stuck with the super juice. What wheel did you switch to?

The OJ's are ok for light cruising but if you want some soft wheels you can really abuse and slide, I'd consider some of the Powell wheels with the soft slide formula. Not cheap but they'll hold up way longer and perform better.

I got what I want for indestructible cruiser version 3.0 pretty much dialed, just gotta order it, haven't committed yet

9" Powell flight popsicle (14.5" wb)(graphics will be removed or covered up)
Powell hardcore grip (pizza style, supa chunky)
Seismic polyethylene 9mm thick tail skids
Button-head hardware
1/4" lil jawns slop jars risers
Indy hollow stage 4 MFW
Seismic 6-ball ceramic built-in bearings
Powell 59mm G-Slides 85a

The 59mm wheels and 1/4" risers make the pop angle steep as hell, but with the tail skids(which I need anyway because razor tail is always the death of my cruisers)it evens it back out to the same angle as 53mm wheels with no risers on the same trucks

Might put flanged nuts(grind king rims style lol) on the axles and grease on the axle and bearings(will be skating in rain)

Previously skated in the rain with ceramic Reds with extra speed cream

Worked well but there was still a lil maintenance required. Built-ins and Phil Wood grease are my solution to that.

Probably also gonna put lil jawns rails on there

Powell makes a bunch of great stuff but not cool enough for my image so I'm going to go out of my way to buy their shit, announce it, but also hide it. ;)

Oh naw I skate blanks 99% of the time and don't want some like, shiny foil skeletons graphics

If they had a board that even literally just said Powell on it, cool.

Edit-

While an indestructible rain/dirt board sounds tight, I think I'm focusing too much on the height/width ratio and rain factor. My last ones I was using for transportation every day to work in alaska

I could just as easily put those same G-Slides wheels on an old set of 149s, and something with a shorter wheelbase. Was worried it might feel tippy.

I like the idea someone had in another thread of just keeping different size/duro wheels attached to hangers with bearings, so it's only one bolt to undo to change wheels... Could just have other hangers with wheels already on em in my backpack therefore like any board could become a cruiser in a few seconds... And maybe not be so hung up on the idea of a waterproof board

Edit again -

I bet one of my old used sets of 149s, with those same 59mm g slides, 1/4" risers, and tail skids, on that creature VX 9.25" x 14" wb would actually be the move, skeleton graphics removed so it's just a green stain... I love 14" wheelbase

Okay I guess I still don't know what I'm doing for my third Alaska-style board hahha
