I like the dark, reminds me of Thrasher. haha. I think it could use some padding but definitely an improvement with the links popping out in a different color. The standard way is really hard to figure out where to click. Blue on grey though, not so much...

My main gripe is that it's so wide that I always have to scroll to the right to see the whole post.

We went with the Most used resolution of our users to determine the size of the site.

can the dark layout be set as the default? 

also, i don't know if anyone noticed this but when you're logged in, everyones user names is dark blue, both regular members and pals.
but when you're logged out, regular user names are displayed in black text and slap pals are in light blue.
shouldn't it be the reverse?
