Don't worry, there's a thread in UWTB that's full of Reynolds naysayers. You fucking Philistines.
I'm going to argue that Placebo owes their entire career to a Canadian dude's skate video part. Appleyard should be getting royalties for this shit.

Didn't want to make a whole new thread for this, so posting here. I scanned & posted Andrew's December 2004 Skateboarder interview, where he visits his hometown of Lakeland, FL and discusses his path to sobriety. Link is below. Lots of people were DMing me about posting this one, so I figured it was worth sharing here as well.

I’ve always loved that home coming article.

I’m 100% going to sound like a fanboy because I’m definitely part of that generation that wanted to be Reynolds, but I truly think he’s subjectively the best skater of all time. If you go back and look at the Stay Gold premiere thread, everyone was assuming Reynolds is going to have a mellow shorter part because he was old at the time - being like, the geriatric age of 34 or something… which is kinda crazy to think about looking back because even though he’s not one upping his shit at UC Davis, he’s still jumping down shit that most skaters his age shy away from.
Dude could always skate everything at an amazing level - yeah he’s not GT, but he’s got 4’ above coping FS flips and photos of tucked FS airs in backyard pools 20 years ago. He’s got wildly awkward manual combos and ledge tricks that are very rarely seen - that fakie ollie switch front blunt (from the side!!!) at Philly city hall. When he was in his ‘I’m just gonna jump down shit’ era, he still had the coolest tricks for weird rarely seen spots - nollie out past the wall to noseslide that hubba (presumably in Florida). And that’s not taking into account all of the obvious shit. If you look at that four wheel drive part, he’s even got a lot more, like, I’m failing at trying to describe what I mean but it feels like EE3 inspired city skating, kind of ‘these are the spots near me’ kind of skating. Cannot say enough good shit about dude, but I think the best thing about him is he’s still doing all this shit because he wants to. Without a doubt he could have a board on Baker and a shoe out for (almost) any shoe company forever and I doubt anyone would bat an eye… what I’m saying is he could be pulling a crailtap legacy pro thing and have a clip of him skating a ledge come out every 10 years and would beat the milking it allegations, but he’s still skating at more than a ‘good for his age’ level. In terms of skating almost everything considering he’s put clips and photos out of pretty much everything besides vert - although I don’t doubt he could do some shit on a vert ramp - dude is the greatest. Uhh. Huge fan.
For someone w.no signature ur awfully hostile, & that is why I do this

My favourite skater ever, no question. Not gonna say much new here, but his style down gaps is just so perfect in my opinion. He makes things like easy. Also from what I've seen, he seems like a pretty chill bloke.

He's aged extremely well, possibly the best of any skater so far.

favourite chill Reynolds clip. Might need to turn this into my signature now that I'm watching it

i was/am a big fan of his Feedback part, which as it turns out, is a good window into how he'd be skating in the future (now) (ledges/lines/etc)

Just echoing the Reynolds love in this thread. He has been influential through many stages of my life.

I was one of the "Baker kids" in the early '00s wearing button-downs and black TAPs to emulate him. He inspired me to get my kickflips and backside flips down solid (still can't frontside flip though - need to learn that one as a tribute now). In my later years, it's been a huge inspiration seeing him thrive in sobriety and continue to stay productive on the board. He exemplifies that pure love and passion for skating that I hope to keep for a lifetime.

I can't remember if I already shared this here or not but I will again anyway if so ...

Years ago, at what I recall was a go skate day, or a wild in the streets, or something in NYC (maybe Tompkins) Reynolds was there are there was this janky little ramp and he frontside flipped off it and I followed him up with a 360 flip and he gave me props.  One of the best experiences with a pro I've had.  There have been many and most were disappointments but not that day haha

Noble effort, but maybe if you said something like "his frontside flips make me literally feel like puking all over my floor", it would at least elicit a giggle or two.
Thanks y’all. It’s been fun.
