Disappointed we were *lightly* promised Spanky Hi to be on the G6 sole and the catalog shows that mid formula G sole instead  :'(

I hope that's not final and it will be on the G6 like his low top version.

Mixed bag with Emerica and Es there. Plenty of yawns but definitely a couple good ones in there
[close]

emerica is ditching the g6 cupsole from what i know, it didn’t sell well enough to justify the cost of production
[close]

From what I understood, they were scaling back, rather than ditching it entirely, but maybe slap posts and opinions get lost in translation for what the truth actually ends up being/is.

Sad to hear Emerica's phasing out the g6 cupsole. Have to stock on a few pairs of Spankys and unwillingly move onto 1010s or whatever.
[close]
Not necessarily phasing out the Pour-In, just some of the models on it. We still have the Figgy G6 in the line and will try to keep the Slip Cup going even if it's just a new colorway every once in awhile.
[close]

i saw 2 catalogs and 0 g6 cupsoles, and i don’t really trust sole tech anymore anyway, that whole penny 2 situation with the elephant print and them saying that the og1 will have a midsole vs the shoe that actually came out… to me it looks like the margins on shoes with midsoles are not enough to make them really profitable for sole tech. if i ever go into the emerica thread it’s always “look at my 10 pairs of emerica x that i bought for 20 bucks each on their website with y promo code”. idk tho i’m just a lil dummy

i mean shit i got sent the catalogs and we don’t even carry sole tech really, we had maranas for a bit and that was that, no one wants to buy em

I'd be surprised if Emerica was still in core shops in 5 years and eS is still in business.

Wes has been spotted in Lakai recently, which is probably better selling than any Sole Tech brand and likely to still stay around. I guess Emerica does have more pro models for aging riders than other brands.

I’m not a shoe construction expert, maybe someone could enlighten me…. Why is that random seam there instead of it all being one piece?  Looks… dumb

Splits like that in a panel are for what is called "pattern yield". It's more efficient, smaller pieces. Meaning less waste when puzzling pieces together to cut out of a cowhide or of roll of synthetic/canvas. This reduces waste which is better for the company, better for keeping scraps out of landfill.

That seam was also on the original K2.

And you know, Sole Tech have displayed a lasting commitment to having their remakes as close to the original as possible, so you gotta keep that seam in there. Don't worry about the sole though, no biggie.

A lot of great comments and feedback in here. Here's a few updates from things that were said:

Most importantly, Spanky Hi will be getting an upgrade from what was posted in here. It's now back on the original outsole but with an EVA insole rather than a G6 midsole but happy to say that this improvement won't raise the price.

Correct, the team riders have a huge say when designing their signature shoes. Braden did play an extremely major part of his shoe and was heavily involved. He's been skating it for a few months now and loves it.

In 2025, there will be a Heritic G6 version released.

As one pal pointed out, similar to the Etnies Barge, the Cadence is a basic silhouette designed to be very price conscious. Solid vulcanized shoe at a great price. No more, no less.

Also, if anyone wants to move any of these discussions to the Emerica thread to not takeover this thread please feel free.

Are we talking insole or midsole here?  If this is getting the pour in midsole, this could be a great shoe.

Yeah they're also going to make all the panels completely asymmetrical between the left and right shoes keeping that early 00s feeling.

Heretic G6 has me feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas Morning all over again.

I'm still gonna buy that first iteration of that reissue though.

Pillar G6 would be special too.

Was the word 'insole' here supposed to say 'midsole,' or is this hilarious?

Wait, so you're telling me they're downgrading the much vaunted G6 midsole AND not charging me for it?!?!? What a nice deed, Emerica.

If it means anything, the Leabres Wino G6 colorway that came out a few years ago almost got me laid.

I absolutely never see people who aren't sponsored by es/etnies/emerica wearing the shoes. Not that the one city I live in accounts for the entire skate population, but I'm surprised to see them still going seemingly (?) strong elsewhere in the world.

I have rarely felt nostalgic for the shoes I skated when I first began skating because they were mostly so hideous in that era, but the heretic was a great budget shoe that I must have had 10 pairs of when they initially came out.

Does the re-issue shoe market do well enough to keep places like sole tech afloat? I can't wrap my head around why anyone would want a pair for anything other than nostalgia's sake, but maybe I'm also way out of touch with the world and non-skaters are buying skate shoes again?

Based on soletech, DC, even Vans, etc. cashing in on these close to 1:1 reissues, it seems they are doing somewhat well. Maybe not every reissue, but they're selling.

I'm in SoCal and I see a decent chunk of skaters (not counting myself) wearing soletech shoes that are definitely not sponsored. Midwest USA also has a sizable market for the homegrown skater owned companies, so I imagine that's another decent portion of their sales. Coastal cities are subject to more trends so that's probably why it's less likely to see them there.

Wino G6 Slips (vulc/cup), Joslins, Maranas, and Accel Slim/OG are all fairly common to see from my experience.

I've seen one pair of eS and one pair of Emerica in a year and a half of living in SD (not on sponsored riders).

dc i do see quite a bit as well as aleka lang has a lot of influence around here, but soletech i hardly even see in shops. it’s primarily nb and vans for the older heads and dunks/shelltoes for the little guys in their big boys.

glad to hear that the core brands are still keeping afloat out there.

Sole Tech deserves more credit for the Creager reissue, but all everyone talks about is how they fucked up the Kostons (which they have done, repeatedly)

Wasn’t the G2 the small gel like pod they put in the heel of some shoes, I think the Accel Plus had it. Maybe the Accelerate.
