DM’d Cromer and they are in fact one stars they are gonna start having the stripes now on the new releases coming up. The ones I questioned him on were literally the same colorway as the red edition pops ahah

Expand Quote
Cromer seems to be wearing some Pappalardo-esque One Stars in his ig stories

[close]
[close]

Not all One Stars will have the stripes. It's the One Star Academy which is a heritage model that the Poppalardo was based off of. If you google One Star Academy you can see there's tons that already exist outside of skating.

Edit: Posted at the exact same time as Moe ahaha. What up Moe!
The shoe looks a little wider than the normal one stars. Hope this is the case since outside of the AS-1, their shoes are too narrow

Those Dilo shoes are vaguely reminiscent of the Emerica Reynolds Highs from years ago. I kinda like them.

Those Reynolds high were a mad underrated goat shoe. Wish emerica would make something like this again. The Dilo shoe does look good.

i hit up gallant and asked him. strike mvmnt has been around for a while making different trainers.
these will be skateable trainers. marc morriset the found was a pro snowboarder who worked at four star dist/circa for a while. i had a pair when they first came out, pretty comfy but nothing super different, but i think it was a very basic model.

Not bad

$140

Going against slaps love for thick cupsoles I've always felt most secure in shoes which were as close to skating barefoot as possible. Slip ons and thin vulcs (the janoski era was golden for me). Have been wondering for some time now if something like a barefoot skateshoe could work, so I'm definitely intrigued. But the price and look is definitely harsh though I do think I could make the white color way work. Anyway living in the EU I doubt I'll ever get the chance to try them out

Slide 2 for a pic of Dilos pro model

Not too shabby, would look horrible if you were wearing shorts though.

gotta say i'd try those Cupsole mids and if they did a g code on a cupsole i'd gladly give herman my money
[close]
i think that first slide of the g/code has a cupsole now. looks like its more rounded than a vulc lip.
i could be wrong tho.

I’m pretty sure they just gave the Code a different wrap than their other vulc shoes, but it’s still vulc.

I feel like I've read so many articles and seen so many videos when Vans is doing well, it's always them saying that they went back to their roots, focused on core models like the skate hi or the era and stopped following dumb trends/puffy shoes. Then they go out and start putting out this dumb shit from when the company was chasing like DC and Es and was terrible. I don't get it.

Right now it seems like they really can't win (at least on slap) you've got 70% of the people hating on them because they don't make shoes with little bits of plastic and magic foam giving them the mental support they need. Or just don't have the old visual flair from the bad vans years but then when they do make some retro shoes they're still gonna get shat on.

I mean I'm down with shoes like the first Kyle Walker - it's got tech and has Vans DNA. I actually don't hate the wayvee either. It's just when they do this shit that harps back to their bad years chasing trends that I get confused.

imagine if they made this crockett with similar materials / stitching to the brown decons that came out a few months back? would have sold out instantly...instead let's make it cOrDuRoY.

The problem is that the shoe world outside of skating is moving away from (and has been moving away from) those classic Vans styles so they’re just not in the trend of the wider market and they’re trying to adapt to that. These shoes are being released and their marketing plans are trying to make money by building on the Vans / “skater” “identity” even if they’re not releasing shoes that most skaters want to skate or not shoes that many skaters associate with Vans and would associate more with DC or eS. There’s been discussion on this board with that article about the new CEO - VF isn’t going to turn Vans around by focusing on appealing more to the most niche skater crowds. He needs to appeal to more and more mainstream audience members.

why pump out a skate silhouette and not revamp it into a skate edition (with proper insoles n such)?

from what it seems vans only seems to care about the appearance of skating. marketing towards non-skaters looking in

Even that colorway is a rehash of two different colorways that they've already done for this shoe. This one does make me wonder how corduroy would skate compared to suede?

Personally I have no issue with this release nor do I hate it. Of all the things Vans is doing, I really don't see this is a major problem or letdown. I mean it looks like a retro skate shoe, it's marketed towards nonskaters, but who really cares.

No I hear you - I totally get it. I just don't necessarily think it's the best business model to chase trends and make that what your brand is about. You can chase trends with your mall line, your vault line, etc - but just don't forget your DNA I guess is what I'm getting at. And Vans just has a bad history of chasing trends and losing sight of what made them successful in the first place.

if they dropped their tried and true skate models i would agree with you. also in this case they are kind of doing exactly what you are saying as far as chasing trends with mall and vault line. that shoe description even mentions it's a vault model and i don't see it in the skateboarding category for instance.
this isn't a defense of their business model or actions btw, i just don't see this particular shoe as a problem
