There’s been discussion on this board with that article about the new CEO - VF isn’t going to turn Vans around by focusing on appealing more to the most niche skater crowds. He needs to appeal to more and more mainstream audience members.
Bingo. It always baffles me when people around here mention a company should re-release such-and-such shoe, even if hal--jokingly, because that could turn their fortunes around.
I mean, maybe it would work for eS or Lakai, for some type of brand that is so core that only skaters buy them, but otherwise? Vans, adidas, NB#, Nike...? People don't even grasp how infinitely small numbers are generated by sales of skateboarding shoes strictly to skaters. And i don't mean in regards to adidas or Nike in general. Just their skateboarding sub-divisions. I don't have the numbers, but I would wager that anywhere between 80 and 90% of Nike SB or adidas Skateboarding shoes are sold to "casuals" who simply like the look (with an added bonus for Nike (rather their marketing) who made their SB line sought out by hypebeasts).
