I've seen no real difference in quality between vans or Nike and Adidas. Don't know what being a grown adult has to do with it, most people in their 30s or older would have more nostalgia for Nike and Adidas than vans
I skated Skate Half Cabs and Crockett Hi exclusively for a long time and before that skated Blazers and Dunks for years. Every single pair of Crockett Hi would come delammed from the toe where the faux foxing tape meets the waffle or in the flick area. A pair would last me around 3-4w skating 3-4x a week for a few hours. Half cabs lasted longer, but flopped out much quicker than an equivalent Nike Vulc and the fit between colors and materials was often inconsistent. I had several pairs also have the foxing delam from spots at the upper.
I don't skate Adidas and can't comment on them specifically. I can say that every single pair of Nikes or New Balance have lasted far longer than a similar pair of Vans. You can get both brands on sale easily to take cost out of the equation, but even if you price all of them at full cost a pair of $80 Half Cabs would cost $20/week to skate. A pair of $100 440 or 600 last me twice as long (6-8w on average), which would come out to $12.50-$16.60/week.
Not only that the PopCush would often bottom out and give me heel bruises and over the life of the shoe both Vans would get sloppy in the rear heel, which caused a bunch of ankle tweaks. Blazers would bag on out on me, but not in the heel so the stability was similar the entire life of the shoe. Same with NB.
