Airwalks are shit quality compared to NB in terms of the materials they use, and you can tell by holding a pair. The midsole on the Airwalks is taller and not similar to the #417. If that isn’t enough, Airwalks are made in China while NB# shoes are made in Indonesia.

Minute details save you from 3rd party competition and also give a reason for people to upgrade.  Look at stuff like Apple where you can get an Apple Pencil knock off on Amazon for like $5 but it’s missing the most important feature on the $90 dollar one. You can get by with basics until you can’t and are forced to upgrade.  Same thing applies here that shoe looks decent and works for a beginner skater but a year in they notice the lack of quality and upgrade to something from a big company. Duffs stayed alive off this concept in the mid 2000s.
