just a couple pages torn out of a moldridden, beat up Home Journal from the 1900's I bought ten years ago for 50 cents at a yardsale, spray glue, woodstains, and clearcoat.

Made this one cut from an old Creature deck. drilled a bunch of tiny holes to sew thread through, and used some spray adhesive for backup. the pocket is sealable by way of a velcro strip i put in near the top, and after griptape is applied, that'll help hold every section of thread thats on the topsheet.

Shame I don't have a slingshot to put in there.

sure man, s'not like i invented it!

some advice: first off, make sure you take off whatever clearcoat is on the board (sand down the whole thing with atleast a 180 or so grit sandpaper), otherwise you won't properly penetrate (heh heh) the wood (heh heh) and everything will kinda just sit on top and be blobby.

then go thin with the coats, don't do more than 2, and a thin layer of clearcoat ( Clear spraypaint. preferably glossy.) to finish. Allow proper curing time (stains can take a while, I give mine at least a full day just to be sure)
and after its fully set, make sure the the surface isn't too tacky or sticky. if it is, you went too thick. strip and restart.

also, you'll probably notice some stain run down the sidewalls. have a little rag ready to just wipe that up or just around as you go so its even. And if you're doing some specific area, like a masked or stenciled out area, be aware that it'll bleed a little bit under the edges of your mask/tape/whatever unless you are VERY careful near those edges, and use a small brush and apply a very thin amount of stain at a time.

You'd figure, what with me currently living in Las Vegas, that I'd know a thing or two about "Stripper Liquid"

I haven't delved into the stripper/thinner realms much. I'm pretty sure at one point I tried to use some brush cleaner on a board, but can't really remember how that turned out. My guess = not great.
But what the hell do I know about such chemical reactions? nothing.
Maybe try a test patch? or just go really REALLY easy on how much you put on, so it won't have the chance to soap through multiple plys?

Thanks man.  Car ads are all from 84-87 Nat Geo's I picked up, good call.  My facebook homie informs me the style is called decoupage.
I did it with shit called Modge Podge my wife had laying around.  Basically a thin glossy elmer's glue you paint on.  In the future I think I'd use some kind of lacquer to make the whole thing smother.  I ended up covering the whole board in modge podge just so it was all consistent.  Also need to figure out a way to avoid wrinkles.  The deck is a Blood Wizard Serclops, about the best cruiser shape I've found.
It's basically an 8.1" zip zinger.

you could probably get away with using a gel stripper if youre careful and dont let it get to the sidewalls or soak too long

Yes it does take a while, but I don't really mind the extra work. I used to only use handtools when I was a kid, and I still don't trust electric drills with my mounting hardware.


and sadly no, just a handheld electric. but she's done me just fine thus far.

(I almost picked up a bansaw from the Habitat for Humanities store today for 40 bucks, but I couldn't afford to spend even that meager amount of loot on anything what with my big trip back east coming up on tuesday. Hopefully it'll still be there when i get back mid-July)

yeah all of those are really cool, but the 3rd one is my favorite because its a style and approach I haven't seen very much.
plus the zippo is a fun 3d element.

Ah yeah I guess I'm lucky to have my dad's garage to go to whenever I need to piece some things together.  I know what you mean about doing it by hand too.  I did all the sanding and refining of the edges with a metal file after I cut the last board I posted.
