No white after Labor Day!

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

So at the end of the day was Gen V essential to The Boys storyline? I kinda think it was but I guess the exposition in The Boys s4 covered what we need to know so far. Gen V was mixed to me because I came away really liking nearly all of the characters but it ends so abruptly and then switches back to main show bizness. Felt like a bit of a cop out ending. They seem very committed to doing the whole storyline as it was written in the comics but I would be down to see original stories with the Gen V gang. There's gotta be some other talented writer working today that hates superheroes and would love to write a show that treats them so bad.
[close]

My main complaint is that it never actually felt like a superhero school show.   It was just same stuff they cover on the Boys with finding a mysterious lab and it’s patients, etc.   but just a cursory amount of school stuff.    The post credit scene with Butcher felt like a shrug to me, but I assume it’ll get tied in soon with whatever they were cooking up in that lab.    (Haven’t seen the new eps of Boys yet)

Main Boys is ending after S5 but I know Amazon and the creatives have related irons cooking in the fire
[close]

s4 is really good so far, as a tip I wish I didn't binge the episodes that dropped Id spread it out

I just binged the first seven episodes of S4... should have waited a week so i could have some closure before S5
but no.... i heard good things so I couldn't hold out

I can't get into GEN V though... I've been trying to get through it but i lose interest in it (its too "teeny" for my liking)... finally made it to episode 3 after a year...

Exploding Kittens starts today (in japan) on Netflix... I am going to watch it in English with my kids when i get home tonight
the card game is fun so i am hoping the TV show is too

Tried watching the new orphan black series and didn't get past the first 15 minutes.

Went to back to the original to see if it was actually as good as I remembered, and it is. Really good plot, dialogue, acting, and characters.

Has anyone watched the new Time Bandits series?

I’ve read some good reviews but I feel like I love the original too much and don’t want to mess with my relationship with that movie.

The series looks a little too Waititi(tm) and lacking in the genuine scariness and misanthropy of Gilliam.

I'm almost done watching Chernobyl on HBO. This series is absolutely amazing and horrifying at the same time. Humans are capable of some incredible things - good and bad.

I wish Furiosa came out later in the year.  I don’t think it would have bombed bc the box office has been steadily pretty damn great this summer, which means people are getting in the habit of going out again.   Fall Guy and Furiosa just appeared too early without enough to bolster it.

Also, very annoyed Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is coming out so soon.    Release that shit in Spooky Season not September

Reminder: Industry is a really good show.   If you’re starting from the beginning, give it a few eps to find its feet.   It’s never bad, just settling on the right tone

It’s worth it just to experience what one of the weirdest fucking movies of the last 20 years is all about. Also it’s free on Tubi.

Also there’s a scene where a chick points a gun at her head and tells the rock that she’ll kill herself if he doesn’t let her suck his dick.

Thanks for the reminder!
This movie is awesome.
Didn’t do my research on this, but my homie said that this movie is a sequel to a book.
A quick google didn’t give me any info on that, but I did find that the writer was discussing a prequel movie in 2024. 🤷‍♂️

After 20 years finally watched all of LOST

Overall enjoyed it and think it's worth watching but def get the problems me and others had with it at the time. (Bit repetitive/feels drawn out at times, plus having to wait so long because it was on regular tv)
Netflix or dvd is def the best way to see it. Each episode is about 42 mins but prob drop that to about 35 without the "previously on" and credits.

Really enjoyed Instigators on AppleTv.  Just a fun 90ish minute movie

Bad Monkey is really hooking me too.  Haven’t been a fan of anything Vince Vaughn’s done in decades, but he’s doing well here.

I wasn't sure what to make of Bad Monkey exactly because modern Vince Vaughn seemed to have a likability problem. I will check it out after I finish...

Time Bandits. It's not bad but it's not great either. Mostly I think it has been dumber than it should be. I won't spoil it but for eg I have so much to say about the duel scene alone. It also works as a companion piece to Our Flag Means Death in that the casting, character dynamics and storylines they go for are very similar but one is hypersexualized and the other aimed a little too much at tweens and under. 10 episodes was probably a lot and it is treading the same historical figure of the week territory that Doctor Who has done for decades. The arc is easily the most fun thing about the show but it gets sidelined pretty early on. Three and a half stars.

It’s one of those detective stories in a town with a bunch of fun characters, kinda Miami Elmore Leonard esque.

Lady in the Lake - meh.  Apple does a lot of these A-List actress + popular novel for women that doesn’t quite connect for me

Slow Horses comes back next week - but I think I’m going to wait to binge it

In case anyone was wondering, on Peacock is a remake of John Woo’s The Killer … that John Woo directed himself.

It’s set in Paris, stars the girl who was Khaleesi’s mouthpiece and has Jake Sully and Eric Cantona in it.

Just information to convey, not an endorsement

Jesus the new Netflix Mark Wahlberg movie The Union is about him joining a special global squad made up of blue collar workers (because no one pays attention to them so it’s easier to be clandestine) to fight crime.   You best believe there’s a character called The Foreman

It’s straight out of the RIPD era where every studio was trying to adapt any comic book they could get the rights to, but I think this is an original idea

Didn’t read it bc I just started Time Bandits, but I’m digging it.   It captured the idea of an adventure a lonely, ignored kid would have with the ironic (British-esque) twist that even in your adventure you’re still not really listened to or valued.    I don’t mind it not trying to be a Terry Gillian piece bc Waititi and Clement have a strong enough voice together (that seems to be more palatable than Waititi on his own)

New Sandler special on Netflix is directed by Josh Sadie and it’s fun what they do with it.   Beats the hell out of Spike Jonze sticking a camera in Aziz’s face from a foot away or those goofy NY specials that try and be too filmy about it
