I would have figured everyone would have gabbing about Train Dreams by now
[close]

Gave it a watch and definitely enjoyed it. Joel Edgerton is always great.  Story kinda just felt like the average life of an NPC in RDR2 but that's part of what I enjoyed

Explains why RDR2 role playing videos have begun occupying my YouTube algorithm

I watched it when it came out during the pandemic.   Remembered it feeling very in debt to Jordan Peele

Just finished Last Samurai Standing, pretty rad.

Season 2 "not confirmed but likely".

The creator was quoted saying what he's hoping for...
Quote
Expand Quote
Two or three seasons. However, sometimes future seasons happen two or three years later, and viewers forget what happened in the past. Because I'm a fan of Netflix, I try to convey as much as I can in one season. I like to do as much as possible. If we could conclude the whole story with another season, I think that's our mission.”

Fujii touches on a frequent problem with Netflix, or really most streaming services, where 2-3 year waits between seasons can sometimes kill momentum for even once-liked series. But he maintains that he wants at least one more season
[close]

I agree with this so hard.
It's very common that season 2 of a show will finally drop and my girl and I will be like "we watched that right? Oh yeah, we really, really liked it! What was it about again?"
Then we'll try to start watching it and it'll be like "Who are these people again? I barely remember any of this" and we either give up on the show or have to watch all of season 1 over again.

The other issue I’ve read about is that the profit margins tilt in the creator’s favor after two seasons and so Netflix drops the series unless it’s exceptionally popular. I don’t know if this is simply producers renegotiating contracts if a show is successful or if it’s something in the initial agreement, but apparently when Netflix figures their margins are too small they simply cut bait.

That’s why there are so many well regarded shows that get dumped in 1-2 seasons.

Didn’t realize it came out that long ago. Think you nailed it on the in debt to Peele.

Prime is funny like that.   I think I’ve come across a brand new show then I see I watched it forever ago

Aronoskys new one Caught Stealing is on Netflix.   I enjoyed it in theaters and has a good chase scene at a skate spot

The new Clooney/Sandler movie Jay Kelly is good enough but not great.   There’s something about their relationship in the movie that feels so very familiar but I can’t place it…maybe the Bill Nighy section of Love Actually?

I enjoyed Jay Kelly too.  Didn't blow my mind, but Clooney always shines on camera.

Watched Babylon for the first time, and that was a long and wild ride.  1920's Hollywood Hedonism.

They’re a growing few of us out there that think Babylon doesn’t get the credit it deserves.   Also, I went to high school with the girl Brad Pitt makes out with a couple of times.   Blew me away when I saw it.   She won our year

Also anyone watching welcome to Derry ?   Kind of does what stranger things season-1 did when it comes to introducing kids as leads

I will warn it’s a long one and results def vary, but I think there are three scenes/sequences that are among the best of the 2000

I get what you mean re: Derry, but I just felt Stranger Things ripped it it off and sanitized it to be a little more palatable.   I find a lot of Stephen King’s stuff to be so mean-spirited and the first couple of eps felt that way to me here where I kinda didn’t enjoy it.  I liked the inclusion of the black guy from the shining as one of the characters in the army storyline

Babylon was dope…Margot Robbie is a fucking beast.  Hard to believe she’s Australian at times at how good she is at American accents

New knives out wasnt as good as I thought but still enjoyed.

Got curious about that show Landman and all the hype with Billy Bob Thorton. Demi Moore keeps throwing me off with her fake texas or southern accent...her acting is good, wondered what she was up to since I revisited a Few Good Men (RIP Rob Reiner)

....it has to be made by a republican and is their version of succession a la oil company propaganda

blew threw the first season and started the 2nd and the 2nd season is horrible.  Probably some of the worst TV I've seen in a while with how much they assert climate change denial, they do mention that we are at peak oil which I thought they'd go more into, but no they start getting into some cartel shit.  Acting is pretty bad at moments even from Billy Bob

I loathe Taylor Sheridan, but gave it a try for the actors…until I couldn’t take it.  Demi was barely in it and it was just all about how much everyone wants to fuck his youngest daughter who walks around everywhere barely dressed unless it’s scene where Billy Bob talks with some unrealistically young hot lawyer and delivering lectures about how liberals are dumb and oil companies are good and necessary

If you want to see what Demi’s been up to, watch The Substance

Been watching outlander w my lady.
Show is absolutely nuts to butts crazy and has lots of romance for those romantically inclined but it also shows titties pretty frequently if you think being nice to girls is dumb

It’s the first 2 era period piece I’ve ever seen, I had never heard of it before, and it’s got some awesome action sequences. It’s got 8 fucking seasons. Check it out .

The main chick and guy fuck for so long it carries into another episode
I have bad taste and I smell like fetta cheese

with all of his tv writing, i get this, but i'm curious--how about his films, like the first Sicario, Hell or High Water and especially, Wind River? i've only seen about half of Yellowstone and nothing about Landman seems worth paying for, but i do love most of his films...

Sicario vs Soldado tells you a lot.  I think those movies are all good but movies are a directors medium and tv is a writers, so Sicario and hell are scripts that have been shaped and guided by two great directors.   tS still has a habit of plagiarizing himself (both Sicario and Hell has the same kind of ending meeting between hero and semi-antagonist) that the directors probably weren’t aware of

Prime gave me a 7 day free trial for Paramount +, only reason why I'm able to see the current episodes.   My Brother said yellowstone was like sons of anarchy but with horses and cowboys so I did a hard pass on that show

Taylor Sheridan was an actor in the first few seasons of SOA as the local cop who wore too tight of a uniform

blew threw the first season and started the 2nd and the 2nd season is horrible.

If you want to see what Demi’s been up to, watch The Substance

with all of his tv writing, i get this, but i'm curious--how about his films, like the first Sicario, Hell or High Water and especially, Wind River? i've only seen about half of Yellowstone and nothing about Landman seems worth paying for, but i do love most of his films...

Prime gave me a 7 day free trial for Paramount +, only reason why I'm able to see the current episodes.   My Brother said yellowstone was like sons of anarchy but with horses and cowboys so I did a hard pass on that show

Taylor Sheridan was an actor in the first few seasons of SOA as the local cop who wore too tight of a uniform

lol yea I remember, SOA is pretty dope but I don't think I want to see a Western version of that show

I don’t know how strong the comparison is plot-wise, but tonally it tracks.   You could make the case that SOA is a hamlet and Yellowstone is kinda King Lear

The episodes that dropped for stanger things today are bangers …I feel like Netflix knew that these last 4 episodes were hot.   I hope they stick the last episode next week

Was tempted to see the last episode in a movie theater but I don’t think I have time to catch up.   Haven’t seen this season yet and I dont feel like blazing through it just to do it

Don't know how it slipped by me, but started watching "The Strain". Super good.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Finally gotten into "The Strain". I like it so far, just weird seeing Corey Stoll with a "full head of hair".

Relay is on Netflix now.   Thought that was one of the better (most solid) movies of the year
