I get the basic ad plan free from my phone company, so no. I get Apple TV from them too but I’ve never used it.

If I had to pay though I probably wouldn’t have any of it.

I actually deleted everything but Netflix and Prime on Jan 1 and probably won't get rid of netflix since its been slowly swallowing up the industry, crazy that they have podcasts on netflix now...something tells me they have something big planned

They had something big planned: acquire Warner Brothers

They have podcasts because their only real competitor is YouTube

I could be wrong but I feel like YouTube might end up a streaming service and won’t be a website anymore

Do you mean they’ll stop being free?   I don’t really see that because of how much they make off ads particularly when they start showing live sports and the Oscars.  YouTube has the paid ad free version and YoutubeTV already, but think putting everything behind a paywall would mess with what made them big.  People are much more accepting of ads with YouTube and on thestreamers bc they started off with ads (more or less) and the streamers starting adding them later as a cheaper tier.

On a positive note regarding AI, I was listening to an interview with a Silicon Valley reporter who said Hollywood thinks much more about AI than AI thinks about them.   With only so many gpu chips to allocate, trying to make movies/content are way down on their list of things to worry about or make money from.

I just see some of my favorite channels leaning more into patreon and not uploading...also heard that a lot of ads aren't converting into actual sales, so a lot of ad revenue is drying up.

I work in the santa clara and palo alto areas and NVIDIA just had their huge AI confrere... from what I can tell the discussions are still around IOT devices with AI.  Also heard AI is being used in F1 this season when it comes to the battery management and deployment software.   Nvidia also said they aren't really supporting gamers anymore, so who know what AI will look like in gaming for the future, probably the same case with movie studios who have AI servers racks for their renderings

Watched Brendan Fraser’s newest movie Rental Family a couple of weeks ago while I was sick in bed. Incredibly touching and heartwarming story with a happy ending. I feel bad bc I wrote him off years ago bc I wasn’t into George of the Jungle or The Mummy when I was a kid, but he’s fantastic and it’s been awesome watching his return.

Yes! Rental Family was so good that even my Japanese wife was super stoked on it, lots of cool locations and the story was really touching like you said.
Not a huge Fraser fan but he did kill it in this.

Daredevil Born Again Season 2 started off last week on Disney + with a bang, was looking forward to binge watching but they are releasing new episodes every Tuesday so I guess it’s gonna have to be old school style viewing for this one, very stoked to see what direction this heads into.

I liked the whale a lot.  Saw rental family in the theatre awhile ago so I might have it wrong but it captures some aspects  the expat experience in Japan.

Does anyone have Eternal Family and enjoy it? I just wanted to check before subscribing, but had no idea that movies like that existed. They do have a 7-day trial, so I'll find out soon enough.

Instagram is constantly giving me ads for Eternal Family, it's all very intriguing.
If you subscribe let me know what you think. I can't do 7 day trials, I always forget and end up paying for a subscription for years without noticing.

I once subscribed to Crunchy Roll just to watch Attack on Titan season 2 way back when it came out. Well, I got busy and never ended up watching it. I also forgot to unsubscribe from Crunchy Roll and never watched anything on it.
A few years later I caught it.
I did the math and I'd spent something like $400 over 3 or 4 years for a show I never watched on a streaming service I never used.

Watched a few and it’s pretty good. Helps if you garden, but not necessary to enjoy it.

Started watching Man in the High Castle on Netflix. It's slow so far but I'm really liking it. Also watching Twisted Metal, it's a fun show.

Been binging on Man in the High Castle today. 6 episodes in and it’s pretty good(although I caught some shitty scene continuity with Juliana stealing a 36 3 window coupe and the scene with it on fire was a 36 5 window coupe).

Most of it is either creepy or surreal. The most memorable movie I watched was of this aborted fetus killing all the people that worked at the prostitution/abortion house.

The animated stuff from eastern Europe is pretty cool and some of the Bollywood movies are pretty funny like Disco Dancer.

I don’t know if I’ll keep my subscription. It makes more sense for me to subscribe for a month in December-January and binge watch.

I just finished The Americans. It’s an excellent series and there’s just something magical about horrifying violence edited to 1980s pop music.
