just started skating a pair of the griffins and they feel great. the shape is the perfect medium between too pointy and too wide, just waiting on breaking the sole in a little bit, but otherwise the shoe grips and has a great flick.

fits true to size for me. actually the best fitting shoe ive ever owned. and pretty similar thickness to a koston. i feel like im giving this shoe too much praise, but its really the perfect balance of boardfeel and protection

Just copped some lindens for $30

Anyone know if this colorway was made in korea? Probably sounds stupid but I can't find the tag on the shoe.

skated my first pair of lakai (marc) last night...took about half an hour or so to break in, but they seem like they are going to be rad.  the vulc wrap around the right shoe's toe was glued on crooked, but otherwise seem well constructed.  no uncomfortable seams inside the shoe and the mid-collar rests on my ankles in the perfect spots.  i'll see how they do over the next couple of sessions, but first impression is good.  i'm coming off skating almost exclusively Adidas for the past 5 years or so (with some scattered vans in the mix), and most recently the Buz ADVs, so in my mind, the bar has been set pretty high for the Marcs.

Art - I am really on the fence with the Marc. With regard to where the collar rests on your ankles...in relation to your Adidas, do the Marc fit higher?

And given where they rest is there any support at all for your ankles?

I had a pair and from my experience they really might as well just be referred to as lows. In regards to Adidas shoes they are taller than any Adidas low I have skated but way lower than Campus mids or anything like that. They kind of come up to mid way on the bump of the ankle. They didn't really seem to provide any more support than a classic 'low' would for me but they also offered the freedom of movement you would expect from a low. However I didn't use the top lace holes so the collar was relatively soft and loose as it wasn't being held tight by laces.

I had to get mine online and when they came I thought they might be really uncomfortable because of where the collar sits; fortunately this was not the case at all. They were really really comfortable, had good boardfeel and had a nice shape. They also lasted me a fair while and only met their end after I stepped on some broken glass which cut the sole pretty badly and just got worse after skating in them more. They do eventually also soften up a lot and get a little floppy, this was after I'd skated them a lot though. I skated them for 2 and a half months or so including a week where I was skating all day everyday and they only really got floppy after the soles were starting to blow out about a week before I had to chuck them. All in all they are definitely among the better vulc shoes I have skated, the stock insole is pretty good as well.

Probably more than you needed or wanted to know but I hope this helps.

Yes, the Marcs fit higher than the Buz Pro, Buz ADV, Adi-ease, Puig, and Silas2.  They are not as tall as say, Half Cabs, but what they do do is provide some protection/support to that Bermuda Triangle of board hits in the area of your ankles front bursa sac.  Does that make sense?  I lace mine up to the top and it does give some extra support compared to a low, but not as much as fully lacing up a half cab.  Based on my limited shredding in them, I like the odd height of them and they don't bother my ankles at all.  You can also keep em pretty loosey goosey if you want.  The back of the collar comes just about to the same place as the Buz ADV, maybe a bit higher, which has a high(er) back than most lows.  Also, the ones I have are the nubuck leather, so I bet the regular suede feel better right out of the box.

If you are on the fence because you are looking for a supportive mid top, then maybe you should lean towards a proper mid.  But if you are on the fence because you want something inbetween a low and a mid, then yeah, try 'em out.

Kinch is right that the stock insoles aren't bad.  They may be a little bulky for my taste, but at least they seem to serve a purpose, which is better than the stock ADV insoles (i.e. cardboard/paper).

This is more great info, thanks Art. I think I'm going to give them a rip. My main concern was with support around the ankle area. I have skated mids for the past several years, and I gave the Adidas Rayado/Silas a try on a whim just to remind myself what a low felt like. I love that particular shoe, but there's no chance in hell my ankles would survive if that was my only skate shoe.

The height of the Marc reminds me of the old DVS Huf 3 "low". Wasn't quite as tall as a mid but definitely wasn't a low either.  Thanks again for the great info.

I'm about a week into skating my Marc's, they definitely feel as if they are low's not mids.  In fact it is rare that I can wear mids or highs due to having a low ankle socket joint, which means sometimes if a shoe comes causes too pressure in the ankle I can not even walk let alone skate. It's the first time in years that I have skated in a pair of vulcs and am even using the stock insoles rather than my usual Footprint after market insoles.

I also weaned myself off of footprint insoles on them. I've kept the insoles to use in other shoes but I'm skating the DC Kalis shoe at the moment which def would not fit them.

With the new Rick Howard shoe did anyone get them in their normal size? I did and they feel pretty tight, they are the narrowest shoes I've had in a while. I'm not sure whether to try break them in or just sell them (can't return them).

I am normally a 10 in most shoes, and I did buy the Howard in 10. It's definitely a shoe with less volume overall than a 'normal' 10, but I am digging the snug fit. That said, the Howard will never work for someone with a super high instep or wider than normal foot. My instep comes to about level with the lace row, but in the Nike Koston 1 and Adidas Silas it sits a little below the lace row.

Everyone has raved about the soles on the Howard and I can understand why. Unreal grip and catch on flip tricks. That's no bullshit. Rick and Lakai killed it with this shoe. I don't know about durability yet as I just got these. But everything about them is good so far. I'm really looking forward to the Howard Mid if this shoe is any indicator.

Yeah, wasn't really writing a review. I just bought the shoes and after skating them a few times that was actually my reaction. I guess 'unreal' is a superlative for 'outstanding'.

Makes sense on the width. The pic I posted doesn't show the depth of the shoe that well, but on the right shoe you can see how the tongue sort of sticks straight up instead of laying down.
