That's what i can't fathom... it's like you couldn't reach out to other teams? Unless his camp behind the scenes told the mavs, "I'm going to La eventually so trade me there now. I'll also tell other teams I'm going there in 26-27" whenever his deal is up. But that doesn't seem likely...

This is the craziest trade ever. As good as AD is, the Mavericks have just traded away the most dynamic player in the league. Did they not watch the series against The Timberwolves? Luka is 6 years older than Luka and injury prone. Make it make sense?
[close]

I grew up less than ten minutes away from the AAC and have seen Luka play in person many a time and have gone back home in recent years to see him play, he’s a MOTHERFUCKER like few are. How he dismantled the T-wolves was incredible. They are saying they didn’t want to give him that $355 million dollar contract this summer with his injury and awful conditioning history (he started the season apparently at 270+) but still, next to Dirk (I can’t believe I’m saying this) who he is more talented than and the most talented player to wear the jersey you trade him for AD, Christie, and ONE first. It makes no sense, and since trading him now he loses out on almost 100 million on his extension and than say it’s because “defense wins championships” is such a fuck you.

WHY THE FUCK would they not trade him to Cleveland for Mobley or Orlando for Franz and Carter Jr, I don’t fucking get it.

With all do respect to the LA pals, why the fucking Lakers, I fucking hate the Lakers, the rest of the league hates the fucking Lakers, from Gasol, to Chris Paul (vetoed), and Dwight Howard, how many times does this fucking franchise have to get bailed out?

This is some babe Ruth shit
[close]

I corrected my sentence because I said Luka was older and not younger. The Lakers team makes no sense now. Two guys (LeBron and Luka) that are play makers with no one in the paint. Lakers need to trade LeBron but they just keep holding on to his old ass. He probably has a minority stake in the Lakers at this point.

I don’t want to see Luka in purple and gold. He should have been a Maverick for life. Dallas is a big enough city to have the most dynamic player in the league. Like the Bulls with Jordan. The Lakers get everything they want. It’s crazy.
[close]

It honestly makes me physically ill thinking about him in a Lakers jersey. I really thought he’d have a statue next to Dirk. DFW is the 4th biggest market and is soon to surpass Chicago… it just makes no fucking sense dude. Like we now have a two year window were we have to win a ring with Kyrie and AD.. but Luka was the future, it feels like I’m watching the entire window of my team get fucked before my eyes.
[close]

I always thiught Houston was #4

DFW metro surpassed Houston I believe, from what I know a lot of people that are out of state are choosing the DFW area and a decent amount from the Houston metro area have been moving to DFW because of the hurricanes/humidity, also a influx of company’s have been moving to north Texas, I know we talk film atiba and in Texas a lot of my friends who graduated and still live in Texas moved to Fort Worth for all there film work and Taylor Sheridan productions. I want to say Fort Worth alone has surpassed Austin in population this year.

This trade will be talked about for years to come. Worried ab his weight, but he always seems to get into shape as the season goes on.

The original deal allegedly had multiple first round picks and dalton knecht AND ROB PELINKA TALKED DOWN NICO TO FUCKING AD AND A PICK

How much is nico getting paid to do this

It’s crazy to think the Mavs has Luka, Jalen Brunson and Kristaps porzingas and in return for those guys they got AD, Spencer dinwiddie, max christie, David bertans, a 1st and a 2nd round pick. Dinwiddie was part of the package to get Kyrie, but it’s absolutely malpractice that this is the return they’ve gotten since then.

Their GM is a joke, and if this isn’t a conspiracy from the new Mavs owners to get the team to move to Vegas (which is apparently possible since it’s a casino group and Texas didn’t allow their plans to have a new casino stadium) he should be fired into the sun.

A pick that will most likely be nothing, a 2029 1st rder which i believe the Lakers will still be competitive as Luka will be in his prime...

It will all come to light what's really going on. This is like a goofy trade I'd make on 2k back in the day fleecing my nephews... historically bad.

The more I think about it the more this trade erks me on every level. Marc Cuban didn’t know.

AD is great but he was a Pelican. He left New Orleans for LA. Luka just got a down for life sleeve couple months ago. Allen Iverson played 10 years in Philly. Wonder what his take is.

No one would watch the Vegas Mavs either.
oh well, at least the Spurs made a great chess move. Fox was so exciting to watch while we played the Kings, very stoked to see him play along side Castle, Wemby, and really the whole squad.

Even after reading some well thought hypothesis on the situation this trade still makes no sense to me. Mavs still have a good team but obviously this trade doesn't bode well at all for future morale or team culture. Kyrie has been quiet and well behaved for quite a while I wonder if he will start acting out again soon lol.

I mean if the guy who got in big trouble for anti-Semite shit hasn’t popped off when Sheldon Adelson’s daughter bought majority interest in his team, I don’t think this was going to do anything.

Dude just desperately wanted to be a Kaepernick and stand for something important but maybe saw he was being more of an Aaron Rodgers and decided to zip it and cash some filthy checks

This whole thing is still hard to process for me as a lifetime Laker fan, I'm still shocked.  I got some friends (Cliff) who are pissed about it, but I'm fucking 100% hyped.  They basically traded AD at his absolute PEAK trade value.  He's been so good and durable these last 2+ years so I think he's sitting at the highest you're ever going to see his value to anyone in the league.  It's possible this works out for both teams, but only if the Mavs can capitalize and win a chip in the next 1-3 years.  Their window seems very short to make it happen as him and Kyrie are so good but definitely not on the frontside of those careers.  But if AD goes down (I hope to god he stays healthy and kills it but it's a possibility) then it'll be a HORRIBLE trade blunder.
I'm just hyped we got a dude like Luka who is a killer, who has a good chunk of "Fuck You" attitude when pushed like his beef with Book and the Suns.  It's something you can't teach, that killer instinct.  That's my big rant from someone who's been die-hard since Magic showed up in 79 and I was 7 years old.
I also fully understand the Laker hate because they always seem to fall into this kind of shit.
