re: KAT: Perception is a funny thing, isn't it? KAT took a whopping two (2) threes in game 3. That's too few attempts for a 40% career shooter, not too many. 7 of his 10 shots came in the paint. He missed some bunnies and had a bad game, but in no way did he just chuck threes.
Zero points in 3 fourth quarters is obviously a problem, but that's only partially his fault. Of course he simply has to make some shots, no doubt about it. But the bigger problem is that only 16% of his field goals in this series (6/37) were attempted in the fourth quarters because the Knicks actively avoid featuring him in the fourth. I strongly disagree with this approach, but Mike Brown has made it very clear that he wants Jalen to play iso ball at the end of games. His reasoning is that the most important thing in close games is to avoid turnovers. He thinks having his undersized point guard bring the ball up against elite ball pressure and shoot one highly-contested jumper after another yields better outcomes in the fourth than keeping the ball moving would. Brown is VERY old school in that regard. A very high chance a at difficult shot on goal is more valuable to him than a good chance at a much easier shot. I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach that this line of thinking is going to lose them the series.
