Saw Candlemass last week. Sooooo damn great. I have seen them before a few years back but I think it was with a different vocalist and this time they were touring with the original dude who did vocals on epicus doomicus.

Excellent set list comprised of stuff off nightfall, epicus, and a few off their newest album

Made me really appreciate them even more

Been really getting back in to sludge/crusty/doom music and I've found 2 titans amongst scouring about Dystopia and Eyehategod.

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nQUFKYo43FUi9ysFcxaRhlKSiRXDNS2Ig&si=cdJbhYBodV-uqwzc

Yes I'm aware there's quite a plenty that do hold their own with these two Grief, Brainoil, Corrupted etc...

I'm kinda curious of y'all's opinions? Although EHG has a decent length or albums although some greater than others, which is commendable however quantity vs. quality definitely seems to be a theme.

Dystopia has numerous split 7" and 1 full length, tbh that album was vitriolic and had A LOT of anger and hate. It felt lackluster to the other full length compilations Humans = Garbage and Aftermath which were stellar imo.

I think you'd dig Toadliquor if you like the aforementioned bands...abrasive vocals, sludge-y. They were on southern lord records, but not sure they're still together

Duuuuuuuuuuuuude.

I lived in Salt Lake from 2007-2012 and saw Eagle Twin probably 10 times, likely the best shows I've ever seen. The live show with them improvising and playing one continuing riffy set was hypnotic. I'd always count how many drumsticks Tyler broke. Hype you posted them. Have you read Ted Hughes' "Crow'?

they are a favorite of mine, super envious you got to see them, and that many times! i lived in slc too, but about a decade before you. sounds like they were as amazing live as i imagined. gentry's earlier band iceburn is great too but i never played the shit out of them the way i still do eagle twin. it's amazing that just two guys can make such a full, heavy sound.  thanks for reminder to read "crow"

Sludge/Powerviolence.  I've been loving this live footage of Man Is The Bastard, a band I never had a chance to see but was hugely influential on me back in the day.  Eric Wood rules.

A Solitary Reign is such a banger. Saw them with Neurosis and Converge years ago; great show.

I get a kick out of this thread just in that Post-Rock is seemingly lumped in with other genres it shares very little in common with. At least from the viewpoint of the birth of Post-Rock being Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden (a favorite of mine), and that record is nearly the antithesis of anything remotely metal.

It’s spacious, sparse, quiet in many parts.

Not saying there’s anything wrong with this thread or those other genres, but it seems in someways out of place.
