I'm coming up on 42. Just had an ankle fusion surgery in November, still in rehab mode. Got an exercise bike that I've been using daily, and tonight went to my first yoga class in 20 years. Feeling pretty good, told myself I'm not cracking an ollie for at least 3 months post surgery, which will be in about a week and a half. I'm nervous, but excited. I know skating won't be the same, but I'll take what I can get. Hope all you folks are having a good night, see you out in the streets soon.
Wishing you the best with your recovery and getting back on the board. Nice moves putting in the work and waiting to skate. I feel like fighting the temptation to start getting active too soon gets easier with age. My buddy has debilitating arthritis at 45 from an old injury that didn't heal right, walks with a limp, can't really exercise. They just broke his ankle and rotated it 18 degrees and pinned it. If it doesn't work the docs will fuse his ankle, so this hits close to home. Good luck on the home stretch and keep us posted!

Been struggling a lot last years, tore my ACL and meniscus  3 years ago. Two surgeries and 2 years of rehab before I could start skating again.

Got back on the board at the beginning of the summer, could hardly Ollie but skated a lot of transition and slowly getting better. Still stiff and pain, but can manage an hour or bit more depending on how hard I skate. Getting better bit by bit, not giving up. Still pretty frustrating. At 47 it definitely feels 😄

Here is two tricks from past weeks though: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUBbwhniOsB/?igsh=MXIxdXhuZTlxN2U4eg==

Good on you for pushing through the pain. I remember personally rehabbing a knee sprain at 21 and the popping when doing leg presses, leg curls and squats was concerning. One thing that worked for me was swimming. If you haven’t already you should make that a part of your rehab.

Beautiful. I dream of a smooth kickflip fakie like that. Good luck with the rehab and comeback!! 💪😤

I think that was a switch flip 🤯

Nice clips!

I wish 😂 - the treflip was switch though

dude that bank looks steep, I probably would not even ollie fakie on that thing!  ;D
If I remember right, you said you were a sponsored dude at some point....well it still shows!! Ripping.

As for my mere mortal ass, I'm slowly relearning my mini ramp tricks these days and I'm having a blast. But it's crazy how some tricks that used be easy 20 years ago now feel totally impossible. Like I want to re-learn fs rocks badly but every time I try, I'm like nope, no way....How did I ever do this shit?? the thing is, I'd rather give up on a trick than commit and risk slamming.

I gotta say the one thing that bums me out most about aging in skating is that I seem to be the only one of my friend group still really into it. I'm 51 now and only two of my old buddies still skate occasionnally....But they live 1000 km from where I live so we never get to do it together, which is a bummer. The sessions with the old gang are the best but they hardly ever happen anymore.
Radness. Mr Jenkins stays ripping and inspiring. That kickflip was at least 5 or 6 fire emojis. Bank looks so steep, like cheating ass nollie 180s only steep. I can't be the only one...

And agreed with Frenchie on aging, losing tricks is a tough pill to swallow, same with walking away vs committing and slamming. The latter feels like failure when it's actually the right thing to do sometimes. Hard to reconcile that with my 20 year old self. Pretty awesome you still got homies from back in the day that still skate!

Sorry for the double post.

Walking away feels way worse as opposed to committing and slamming.

Walked away from a trick today that's been breakfast cereal for me for ages. Wanted to commit at any cost, but just couldn't do it. Only got around to some lame ass half-hearted attempts that do not count as real tries even.

Fuck.

What was the "tip?"

Three parts

1. Jump off your trucks not off the point your tail snaps
2. Snap your tail when you jump as fast as you can and your board with come up better
3. Suck up your feet as high as you can

I like your style Rikki. That's the rub innit? Feels like it goes against the core of your being to stop trying. I'm still thinking about a pop shuv up the euro I didn't get in August at the end of a long session. The mind was willing but the flesh was spongey and bruised. Tried until the lights went out at the park. Never slammed but couldn't skate for a while after. It's hard to push back against that dog with a bone mentality that got us this far and realize it's okay to lose a battle to win the war.

I'm with Bukowski, bet you get that shit no problemo next sesh.

Twinsies man, I wanna get a pop shuv up the euro at my local too. Dunno why it's so hard up a gap, as it's pretty much piss easy off a bank to flat for me. The gap isn't huge.

Skateboarding is a mental challenge more than anything else.

yup that's how I feel too. I just don't wanna risk an injury anymore. Plus usually when I can't commit, I slowly get more comfrtable with each session, and when I can finally commit, it's not forced and way less risky. To each his own though!

to @Sleazy rad pic man!

Also happy to announce my sweepers are looking much better   ;)  Back D's are still iffy though....and fs 50-50s are still one of the funnest tricks to me. So I guess not that much has changed in the end!
