Been struggling a lot last years, tore my ACL and meniscus 3 years ago. Two surgeries and 2 years of rehab before I could start skating again.
Got back on the board at the beginning of the summer, could hardly Ollie but skated a lot of transition and slowly getting better. Still stiff and pain, but can manage an hour or bit more depending on how hard I skate. Getting better bit by bit, not giving up. Still pretty frustrating. At 47 it definitely feels 😄
Here is two tricks from past weeks though: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUBbwhniOsB/?igsh=MXIxdXhuZTlxN2U4eg==
Good on you for pushing through the pain. I remember personally rehabbing a knee sprain at 21 and the popping when doing leg presses, leg curls and squats was concerning. One thing that worked for me was swimming. If you haven’t already you should make that a part of your rehab.
Beautiful. I dream of a smooth kickflip fakie like that. Good luck with the rehab and comeback!! 💪😤
I think that was a switch flip 🤯
Nice clips!
I wish 😂 - the treflip was switch though
dude that bank looks steep, I probably would not even ollie fakie on that thing!
If I remember right, you said you were a sponsored dude at some point....well it still shows!! Ripping.
As for my mere mortal ass, I'm slowly relearning my mini ramp tricks these days and I'm having a blast. But it's crazy how some tricks that used be easy 20 years ago now feel totally impossible. Like I want to re-learn fs rocks badly but every time I try, I'm like nope, no way....How did I ever do this shit?? the thing is, I'd rather give up on a trick than commit and risk slamming.
I gotta say the one thing that bums me out most about aging in skating is that I seem to be the only one of my friend group still really into it. I'm 51 now and only two of my old buddies still skate occasionnally....But they live 1000 km from where I live so we never get to do it together, which is a bummer. The sessions with the old gang are the best but they hardly ever happen anymore.
Radness. Mr Jenkins stays ripping and inspiring. That kickflip was at least 5 or 6 fire emojis. Bank looks so steep, like cheating ass nollie 180s only steep. I can't be the only one...
And agreed with Frenchie on aging, losing tricks is a tough pill to swallow, same with walking away vs committing and slamming. The latter feels like failure when it's actually the right thing to do sometimes. Hard to reconcile that with my 20 year old self. Pretty awesome you still got homies from back in the day that still skate!
Sorry for the double post.
