54mm OJ Elite Hardline shape 99a

It took about 20 minutes for them to break in but now they feel great.  Slide is nice, grip is good.  I really liked their Insane-a-thane formula as well.  These feel less plasticy and are 100% urethane

I'm skating 54 hardlines in 101a (on Indys to boot), I was surprised how grippy they were compared to the 99a Spit lockins I was riding (same session so same surface).

Also they arguably locked-in just as well as the spit lockins did.

I think I need to swap my bearings as well (using Zealous with thick grease with built-in spacers) so the board kind has that plank-dull-thud to it so I can't really feel if there is any chatter to them.

I'm fan of the insane-a-thane and the hardline shape + Dressen + I rode the old school Street/Concrete Razors so bit of a nostalgia trip.

Yeah I recently got a set of 54mm OJ "from concentrate" and was really impressed with them. They might be the best price point wheel I've tried and I'm a big fan of the hard-line shape as well. I have some creature/oj bloodsuckers that are 56mm 97a hardline and they're one of my favorite fall wheels when there's a lot of acorns and leaves around. Great balance of grip and slide.

Well I measured them before I read your reply so I'm going to tell you whether you want me to or not. This is with a super cheap set of calipers I got on Amazon so it might not be the most precise -

Width - 33.7mm
Cp - 27.3mm

Anyone ever rode 58-60mm wheels on some Ace 44's with an 1/8" riser? I'm curious to try a whacky set-up like that.

I tried ACE 44s with 60mm Slimeballs and 1/8" risers and found that I got too much wheelbite. I'd recommend 1/4" risers.

i have a set of 51 spitfire tablets on the way and now im having massive anxiety about the difference. it's been ten years riding the bones v3 shape so it's a leap of faith for me

I tried ACE 44s with 60mm Slimeballs and 1/8" risers and found that I got too much wheelbite. I'd recommend 1/4" risers.

Depends on deck width also. The wider the board the more leverage, the more chance of wheel bite. And, depending on the shape of the concave sometimes wheel bite is reduced a bit if the trucks line up with where the concave bends.

Also felt weird as hell to put new wheels and bearings on trucks that are super beat up and kinda squirrelly. That's obviously no fault on SML though.

Anyway, finally broke down and ordered 3 sets of Spitfire 101 Conical Fulls from 35th Ave to quell the gear crisis. They're just the perfect wheels for me. Nice and stable and break into a slide really easy which is perfect cause I get shook on hills and want to be able to speed check easily.

Never skated a tablet shape and have been tempted to give them a try but, I don’t get tech and just skate curbs.

I was adamantly a classics-only person forever, but I ended up with tablets when I couldn't get my usual. I didn't have any extra difficulty getting onto curbs and the lock-in really helped me stick things longer. Definitely changed my view on wheels and I have zero interest in going back to anything with a round edge.

I think fresh deck, tore up trucks, fresh wheels is the ultimate aesthetic combination. There was a board posted in the setups a long time ago, rosemont? Something like that was the name of the deck, fairly grooved indys, and brand new spitfire classics. Looked so fucking nice.

Why would u want it to feel icy at high speeds though thats just dangerous

speed checks with the 99a havent been as smooth for me with the 99 conical fulls. they break grip better at lower speeds in my experience

only time i ever eat it on hills is if i try to slide and the wheels stick
