Yeah, I’m kinda set on a Real BBS deck but I’d like 14” or 13.8”< x < 14.125” wb and 8” < x < 8.4” wide deck with a fuller nose. I know it would be easier to find a FA/Hockey or something like that now that GS1000 and quasi and many others are all bbs but I have my reasons for just wanting to try Real. I thought I was getting a bbs DGK a couple decks ago but it seems like the one I got was most likely one of their Chinese made decks. It was great but I want to keep trying different wood. I have time as I still have a pretty new DSM deck and a yet to be setup PS Stix to go through before I need another and I’m already planning on trying a Flight deck as well. Just gathering info and taking notes along the way.

I've had 7 flight decks in a bunch of different shapes, they're great. Angle of the kicks is pretty mellow but the concave in the middle is a little steeper than I'm used to at first

I don't think any of them were the newer concave they designed specifically for flights... Curious about those. They call the new ones k26 concave I think.

I've been seriously considering the 8.13" x 14" wb flight too

The 8.25" x 14.25" wb flight decks I had actually measured 8.38"

Have you considered the Nicole Hause twin nose shape? 8.35" x 32" - 14.15". Mine is still on the way so I can't confirm until Wednesday, but a couple people have said that the noses are fat and squared.

The rain got pushed back by a couple of hours, so I'm about to set this up and try to get in at least two hours at the park:

curious to know how you get along with that board

Yeah, I was looking at their whole catalog and for some reason, I thought those were twin tail and I think I’d prefer twin nose but if that’s what you’re saying it is, I’ll take another look. Thanks!

Yeah, I’d be getting one of the newer k26 concave decks. I don’t care about the flight part as much but just want to try their shapes and doesn’t hurt to try the flight tech at the same time. I had a VX that I liked but since the kicks wear down the same and possibly faster because they are thinner and I don’t like having fraying fiberglass or carbon fiber that can tear my hands and shins to shreds, the deck actually lasted about the same as a regular deck for me.

I tried one VX deck and I didn't like it. I think the construction of the Powells is much more refined

Good to know! Maybe I won’t have the same fraying issue on the razor tails and chips? I think their concave and kick profiles are also on the opposite ends of the spectrum in general with Powell being more mellow.

Bought some accel slim and the swift 2.0. Tried on the swift and I really like it, snug fit with a lil bit of bulk. Didn't know it had a full midsole.

I know there's an NHS mold now that's more mellow, that was developed with a pro, and has a name, but I don't recall it off top

I'm gonna get a creature 9.25 shaped VX for my cruiser setup, but it'll have tail skids so I'm not worried about razor tail or chipping

You'll eventually get razor tail on anything

But yeah my experience with the flight boards were more enjoyable than the VX construction, steep kicks aside, just the actual board construction

I didn't like the more pointy flights as much as the more rounded ones. The pointier kicks tend to chip in the corners more in my experience anyways than the blunter shapes I've had. As far as I know they only make the pointy ones in 8, 8.25, and 8.5.

One way to try out a Powell shape for cheap is to get a mini logo deck

Last deck I had before taking a hiatus from skating was a MiniLogo. When I got back into it, I felt the ML was too sogged out and narrow at 8” so that’s when I got the VX (8.25”). Once I got used to skating again, I broke out the ML as a second setup and ended up really liking it again. It even felt like it got its pop back so I rode the until it snapped and have been riding two setups ever since. So I’m looking forward to trying a Flight and BBS deck next and I want to stick with in between sizes like 8.125 and 8.3-4 with wb under 14.125 and full shaped noses.

8.13" x 14" wb Flight and 8.12" x 14" wb Real red oval are the next boards I want to try, and I have a feeling they'd work well for you too. I'm like 5'8"-5'9" and my legs seem shorter than average

After some madness all summer I switched from 149 hollows to 144 standards, which then unlocked a lot more 14" wb boards for me

I’m going to get the Dan Corrigan deck. It looks like the perfect design to me. Never had any twin decks before and that one seems like a good way to start. If I like it, maybe that Nicole Hause that was mentioned from Real next.

Interesting you unlocked something with smaller trucks. I’ve been skating bigger trucks lately with 8.5” Thunder and Ace and just tried the widest trucks I’ve ridden since the 80s with the T-II 151s. I definitely like those but it was on wider decks so I also really liked the 8.25” trucks I was riding on my 8.25” decks. I’m about to go back to 8.25” trucks when I setup my 8.125” deck but going to wait a bit longer before I do that.

I know we’ve been going on a bit of a tangent so to get back on track, I bought a Sci-Fi t-shirt recently and it’s pretty nice quality. I rarely buy t-shirts since I just rock free ones I get from friends or shows and haven’t bought a skate related shirt in maybe decades.

I’m pretty sure the Powell Dan corrigans aren’t a true twin he said it himeself, and so did Andrew cannon, about how the nose and the tail are different shapes for different things. One squared for slides and the other I can’t remember off the top of my head but more like a regular popsicle. Def check out the Andrew cannon vid for more info on it. (I know  ::) I watch YouTube skate slop)

Yeah, I knew about that and that’s what I really liked about it. It should be the same length and angle but different shape so an asymmetrical twin or something like that. Makes perfect sense to me for riding either way but optimized for different tricks depending on which way you use it.

That does seem kinda cool, same angles different shapes

I think sizing down trucks and keeping them hollows would've really fucked me up, I hate 144 hollows haha, I did not enjoy them. which was why I had a bad experience when they came out. Then the hollow 149s started to bother me and I wanted to get standards but they would be pretty heavy, so I compromised and got standard 144s and I'm digging them a lot. An 8.375" stage 11 would be ideal but since that's the middle ground of sizes it's kinda cool they split it an eighth either way to have two options there

Yea I know about those. I liked the stage 7 and 8 146s the best(minus the axle slip)

The stage 4s have a closer wheelbase and are heavier, though they do have a hollow version. It's kinda cool they have 8.25 and 8.5 in stage 11 though so you can choose slightly smaller or slightly bigger from the true middle of the road truck size which imo is 8.375

i received some 59mm awol 82a mini logo cruiser wheels (blue ones), after just one day of use i can confidently say they're better than super juice and slime balls. i'm pretty happy, now the only thing i dont know yet will be their durability. it cannot be worse than those super juice anyway

My birthday was this week so I ordered myself a set of Lil Softies classics in 54mm and the 58mm Bannerot radial full soft sliders.

The 58s will be the largest set I’ve ever run, and, as an old, I’m worried about how my inflamed knee is going to react to the extra height and bend when I push.

Happy late bday man

If it isn’t the birthday boy

I don’t know what counts as old on this site but I’m 35 and I don’t really consider myself old. I also don’t really take the best care of myself health-wise (I enjoy drinking alcohol and sometimes I’ll just eat 10-15 ice pops as a meal). I’ve always liked big wheels but I’ve been consistently riding 58mm wheels for the past 6ish years. I was just stocking up on the 58 mm og classics in in 99 duro for a while there and figured it would be my wheel for the rest of time. Then when the soft sliders first came out I bought the 58 radials and liked them a lot so I picked up some more deciding their my new wheel going forward.

I think the softness of the wheel is easier on my knees. It’s a noticeable difference and I don’t think the height will mess with you. I have some older 58 mm 99 duro og classics which have been worn down to 52-53mm ish on a set up that I skate when it’s wet out and I feel my knees more skating that then my regular set up.

I think you’re going to be all good.

Thanks y’all

I turned 41, and 40 was a poor physical year for me mainly due to Achilles tendinitis in the right ankle and PT for it. Tweaked my left knee riding my bike right at the finish line for PT and I’m in no rush to see a Dr for something I can likely fix w exercises.

Tony Buyalos: Hey Peter. For your first pro model we want to give you two sizes. Do you have any measurements in mind?

Smolik: yeah, I’ll take a mid and a regular.

Tony: what’s a mid and a regular?

Smolik: my pro models, stupid azz bitch!

Some FP game changers sport or something like that + the latest Pocket book and Bubble mag.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.
