That picture of Kayla Harrison prompted me to bring this up:

How does everyone feel about fighters being on the juice?

O'Malley is a super noticeable offender because of how lean he is, but his face has ballooned up over the last couple years:

Kayla is undeniably on the sauce (or was) and you can tell by how much extra skin she has around her face:

@fineslime I don't like that fighters are on the juice, and that it is so normalised. The consequences of being at a disadvantage and subsequently losing a MMA fight can have significant effects. One KO or concussion can change someone's career trajectory and health for life. The severe repercussions make it that far more unethical.

I was glad when testing got introduced because it brought some level playing field to the game. But it still has a long way to go as many see it as an IQ test of how to work around it. The penalities to fighter's caught should be much greater.

Interesting spot on Suga, never would have suspected to him.

I am completely with you about the consequences of getting hurt by someone on juice. I was genuinely angry when Josh Emmett KO'd Bryce Mitchell so badly he started sezieing, and no one called out Emmett for obviously being on steroids! Dude, Emmett's voice was deeper than it had ever been and his gyno is insane! I'm also on an MMA forum and I didn't see anyone talking about Josh being on steroids.

Emmett is almost 40 and he looks like that.

A fellow Sherdogger/Slap? Sick haha!

Did Emmett pop? If not, it's the same old story as Hunt and Lesnar at UFC 200. UFC itself don't care about it being clean, they just want shows. Unfortunately, the fighters and their managers methods of gaming the system are more advanced than the drug testing itself.

I didn't even think about the steroid thing, but I felt kinda sick watching Bryce get KO'd like that.  Of course it's a fight he took on short notice and probably needed the money for.  A TBI like that can wreck your life. Emmet was 3 months away from turning 39 in that fight, PEDs are the only way a dude that old is gonna be competitive.

i know it’s boxing but, ryan garcia just trolled the world and then beat the fuck out of haney as a +500 underdog. this has to be mentioned. i picked him to win going in but, can’t legally bet here unfortunately. the ref was definitely trying to fuck ryan over and he still pulled it off. haney grabbing the entire fight, dropped 4 times. shame ryan can’t get the title for missing weight. dude has been completely unhinged and frankly embarrassing lately to the point that this fight was at risk of being cancelled due to ryan having a mental health evaluation and then he goes out there and makes it look easy. i really don’t pay attention to boxing at all unless it’s a big fight like this one which i think speaks a lot on how much he sold this fight, great performance.

He chugged a beer on the scale during his weigh-in and then came in overweight haha. If he's just acting crazy to troll he's doing a hell of a good job of it. Looked fantastic in the fight, even though he was apparently drunk every day leading up to it.
"Let's just do something stupid and ridiculous and just be as fucking regular as we possibly can."

@Crust - thats the thing! no one expected Anderson either! no one suspects these long lanky guys. TJ Dillashaw was never suspected (really at least in the mainstream) but he popped super gnarly for EPO. there are tell-tale signs, like those big fat puffy faces with extra skin. I'm telling you, once you know, you will see it on all these high level fighters.

@igrindtwinkies - what made me more sick about it is that Bryce has a child coming any day now. He is a family man with his own land, trying to build a life on his own terms and with accordance with God, trying to do the best by his family, a man who is clearly not cheating.

A man like that does not deserve to fall to a man who is clearly cheating. My first thought was him having a newborn child while trying to battle TBI or post concussive syndrome. I will curse Emmett's name for the rest of his career because of it. I will never root for him and I will always root for Bryce.

That's a good point, no one expected it from Anderson. I remember being shocked that he of all people popped because he didn't have the "expected" physique.

Will be interesting to see who pops going forward. I think it will be a long time before testing methods become advanced enough to catch large amounts of fighters. At the same time, it's in infancy in the UFC, and at least they are starting to catch some.

Boxing isn't popular enough to bump the boxing thread, so I'm gonna post in here.Usyk vs Fury didn't dissappoint and I'll say Fury redeemed himself a little bit with that performance.  Was a back and forth fight, but was stoked to see Usyk unify and become undisputed.   I really dig boxing on the rare occasion it's actually good.  Was stoked this fight was earlier and I was able to catch it.  Wilder vs Zhang will be a good slugfest on June 1st, I'll try to tune in.

What a crazy fight between Dustin and Islam last night. Dustin did some real damage and it was a competitive fight. That elbow he landed on Islam that cut him open was so perfectly placed and timed. Islam was wearing a giant UFC baseball cap during his post fight press interview.

I hope Dustin doesn't retire. He's still at the top of his game and can beat anyone on any given day. I think what will happen is the UFC will offer him some giant fight that he can't turn down. Dustin is one of the biggest stars they have.

Niko Price is from my hometown and is an all around great guy, so it was awesome to see him win. I used to run a float spa and went back and forth in the DMs with him to get him to come in to float but it never worked out. My brother met him at the gym at 6 in the morning a few weeks after the Lawler fight and Niko said that fight was a fluke. My brother also said he couldn't have been nicer.

I'm glad he got the win too because he has A SEVENTH child on the way! I will say though, he did not look great. He's lost a lot of his speed and was pretty sloppy. Dude is going to be fighting until they don't let him anymore to support all those chillren'.

completely agree about the main event and your take on dustin’s career. maybe it was an “in the moment” sort of deal, i honestly felt like he may have done better than volk in the first fight. certainly did on damage alone. islam is probably the best lightweight and i’m not saying he necessarily got exposed, but if dustin can stuff most of your takedown then arman certainly can with a full camp. i don’t see islam becoming double champ, especially if shavkat gets the belt in between. i see volk calling for dustin & i actually really like that idea, that or trilogy with gaethje maybe. he definitely deserves to go out with a big money fight for everything he’s done for the sport. i’d say finish it with conor if he hadn’t just said that he doesn’t want that fight, then again money talks.

man, i am sure he’s a great guy and it’s good to see him get a win but….. niko price is not a good fighter. no idea how he ko’d rude boy (who then again didn’t look great either honestly) or tim means. him and morono both looked like absolute shit last night, no idea how that was on the main card which i think speaks volumes in how bad the card ended up being all in all. 301 was somehow way better than this card which on paper was supposed to be trash compared to this one. strange sport. i think they should just stop doing events in the north east other than msg at this point after how piss poor the judging was for this one as well as the atlantic city card recently.

I think I read Dustin tore his ACL in that fight as well as shattered his nose.  The ACL's gonna take him out for a while and he's not getting any younger.  He took a lot of damage in the last two fights, feels like he just fought a month ago.  I honestly think that's it for him, but it'd be hilarious to see him go out pummeling Conor in an easy big money fight.

i mean i get that but he’s 35, chandler is 38 and has arguably taken as much damage. he’s only done if he wants to be, i wouldn’t count him out that like. he just went nearly all 5 rounds with the pfp number one fighter in the world, won the 4th and arguably was winning the 5th. also lets see how conor looks in a few weeks before we all him an “easy fight” for anyone. not saying you don’t have a point or that you’re wrong, just saying it’s too soon to speak on some of these things in my opinion. also love the don frye sig by the way.

I don't doubt Dustin could put up some more good wins, I just think his life would be better off getting into commentary or something like that.  He's a likeable guy in a sport filled with douchebags.  I hope the UFC gives him the Forrest Griffin treatment.  It's gonna be sad seeing what happens to some of these guys who took way to many blows to the head.  I fully expect to see Sean Strickland dead or homeless in 15 years.

Oh yeah Don Frye too.  I started watching MMA again after revisiting all that old UFC and Pride shit during the covid lockdowns.  Frye's fights are my personal favorites.  His personality is memeable and great.

He had a lot of great fights, but this one sums up early UFC pretty good.

no you’re right and i mean even he said himself what’s the point in fighting anymore after this? i don’t know though, some people i feel like just can’t give it up because it becomes their entire personality/life (ahem tony ferguson) but yeah, i would love to see him wearing those stupid glasses catching people on even stupider powerslap or be like an anthony smith or chisea type commentator on the after shows. they let him do one for an event somewhat recently (can’t remember which) and he was great.

yeah dude legendary fight right there and fighter. his fight with takayama is an all time great. funny you mention strickland because he gets compared to frye a lot lately, people were asking frye if strickland was his son ha. why do you use strickland as the example of head trauma though? hes only been ko’d twice and isn’t necessarily known for getting into wars, much less entertaining fights really.

Strickland's whole thing is that he doesn't train, sparring only in a time when a lot of dudes are cutting out sparring almost completely.  Strickland also was in a bad motorcycle wreck and clearly has mental issues and struggles to control his impulses.

Also, idk if anyone cares about boxing, but this was an odd fight.  Respect to Wilder for making it as far as he did, starting boxing at 20 and pretty much relying on his right hand power.
