Just got a pair of 1010’s. I feel like my heel is slipping around a good bunch. Do you guys lace them all the way up, or should I size down?

Size down half a size, if you're lucky they won't be too tight.

Mine did that at first and just stopped once they broke in. I don't advise sizing down. I made that mistake on a pair after reading advice on here to do that with the versions that do not have a mesh toe and they were definitely too short and compressed my foot too much. I just lace them all the way and pull on the laces to tighten them and no slip anymore. I think it's because the rear of the shoe is quite stiff until broken in.

Mine felt that way at first but then it went away. I’m not even sure it’s heel slip, but some kind of mindfuck when you are used to the heal bump things.

I had massive heel slip in the 1010s, wearing a size US10, even with big socks, tight af laces, heel slip; for a size 10, they were easily a half size too big on me no way in hell I could have skated them, they might as well have been flipflops. The 9.5s, were too snug. These were leather, not the mesh variant.

The 808s have finally given in a bit (two overnight stretches and constant wear around the house with 2x thick pairs of socks); now, wearing my normal socks, they feel good enough to skate in and break in the rest of the way...it's not that they aren't wide enough it's that the toe cap design doesn't allow for any wiggle room vertically so it feels cramped. Hopefully the mesh variant drops so I won't have to bother with all the pre-stretching.

FWIW, I tried all of that stretching on the 9.5 1010 with zero luck; someone got a nice gift at a spot one day.

My homie is getting flowed stuff from NB and rates the 440 lows a lot and they do look solid in person, definitely will cop some if vegan variants dropped!

i jumped ship from the adidas matchbreak supers to the 440 lows as i wanted to go back to a cupsole to protect my feet more. since the swap my feet dont tend to ache after a heavy session and there holding up well even against fresh grip.
definitely recommend the 440's.

Okay so I got the package with the 306, 508 and 440. All in a US 7 because I have cute, weak feet.

306 - my toes are swimming but the insole is nice
508 - feels way too big overall and my heel slips
440 - great snug fit, just wish for slightly longer laces

Thanks for coming to my ted talk and have a great afternoon ya all.

Seeing as you and I share the baby feet/grown man thing, how would you say the 440 fit? I’m looking at some of the Tom Knox ones to kick around in as a cup chiller

Not gonna lie, the fit of the 440 is pretty perfect for me. I got some suede ones, so can't tell you about leather. A tiny little bit too snug at the pinky toes but I think they will stretch over time. I like it that these shoes are nicely snug above of the feet. Hope that makes sense, English isn't my first language.

Just got a pair of Tiago 1010s in the mail.  Size 14 so trying on in store is almost impossible.

They seem to fit fine sitting down but as soon as I stand and walk around I get a WILD pain on the outer side of my mid foot toward the heel. Almost like there’s arch support on the outside, toward the heel.

Anyone else experience this?  Will it break in?  Or am I doomed to only wear the same shoes for the rest of my life.

Some more thoughts on the 808s 10 days in

They take a loooong time to break in, it's a serious shoe.

After stretching (with stretchers and spray) every night, wearing 2x puffy sucks and lacing tight/wearing them as 'house shoes', a week or so of errands, 5+ times at the gym and 3 skate sessions, they are finally broken in. Last session they were good to skate but I felt restricted in them still, for skating they need a bit more time to break in it seems.

Sole is thick AF, too thick for me, I cannot feel my tail to save my life, I spend more time looking at foot placement than I ever have. Can't even feel the pocket (yet). Very grippy,

They're still too snug for me above my big toe (I blame my toe and that little extra design/flair over the big toe area), it doesn't allow me to wiggle around and I feel restricted. The rest of the shoe is totally fine, width, length and no heel slip; though my foot does end up pushed forward and I find I need to bang my heel on the ground to shift my foot back into the 'locked in' position.

I'm going to give them some more time but I don't think the snug feeling will go away anytime soon.

Barring the snug fit it is easily the most comfy skate shoe I've tried; will def try on a mesh pair.

They also make every other footwear I own feel big.

So after skating some 440 lows directly after some 1010s, I find the 1010 heel slip comment very strange. I honestly feel like the 1010s have no problem at all, but I find myself with realllllly bad heel slip in 440 lows. Maybe I'm just weird

I get heel slip on 440 lows as well. The slip on the 1010 goes away eventually in my experience. Sounds pretty normal

Damn I wish they'd do those in the hi, but they usually don't do the same colorway in both, or am I making that up?

Get hungry on it!

They do with simple colorways I think or at least stagger them very close in release. I am thinking of the white/cream/blue and generic black/gum models specifically. Some models never get released in the opposite- GSD colorways, so far the black with white stitching and the royal blue/white high are not in the lows.

Man I tried on the 808 yesterday and I just don't get how people do this. They brought back traumatic memories of breaking in bulky ass shoes in HS and I just don't see the advantage. If they wanted a lower tech Tiago why not just use different foams and panel materials like the 425 vs 440?

from the design interview posted, they seemed to really be gunning for the brazilian tiago fans. at least that was my big takeaway from it.

Quote
Flatspot: One thing I notice when handling the shoe, while listening to you describe it, is how visibly durable it is. How much of a conscious decision was it to design the shoe this way?

Jeff: When we sat down with Tiago and looked at the shoe, he mentioned that the kids who will save money to buy this shoe need it to last. It can't be a short-term thing. At New Balance, we have seen photos of the 1010s that the kids in Brazil skate. They have skated through all of the rubber and are almost through the foam. And they are still wearing them. If the 808 is your first New Balance shoe, it might be the one that you have for a full year.

That makes sense for the upper, but why extend the foam so much into the forefoot?

Is it really that tall? Nike Blazers are kinda tall too, in a sense that it feels like ur standing on a platou
