How long does it take to break in the 480's or 440v2's. Ive been skating in the Nike Leo react's and GT's for a while now and need something new. I just hate shoes that take forever to skate

I just got the 440v2 and skated them right out of the box. They felt really good. Tightened them down, skated for 10 mins and tightened them one more time. Had my second sesh yesterday, about an hour skating curbs. Noticed the raised heel a little bit but not enough to bother me while trying tricks. For reference i was skating Last resort Milics and Vans Carroll reissues recently. Love feeling like my ankles are safe to try shoves and flip tricks.
Man the long board truck thing killed indy for me. I was willing to set aside the racism, but long boarding, gtfo... - DH

Let me ask the designers on this one.  My guess is, this is a 1-off factory issue and not something for ALL 440 hi/low's.  But I'll ask and see what I can find.  Plus I have a bunch of them on the wall here in my office and can do a little test as well.

Cheers Roth, that sounds great. I forgot to mention that they look and feel fantastic other than the size issue. And I really like the new larger N too. Can't wait to skate them!

All my 440 v1 highs fit me in size 10. All my 440 v1 lows were too small in 10, perfect in 10.5.

That's really interesting. I only had the 440 V1 lows, which did fit me alright, but was maybe a bit snug. Either way, with my V2's the outer sole looks like it was produced with two differently sized molds! Or that the white outer material of the lows somehow shrunk more than the gum/white material of the highs. As a consumer, I think it's reasonable to expect the same shoe model to use the same mold size, whether it's high or low. But it sounds like this might be a general NB issue, maybe?

Edit: I just received this mail from New Balance support, which seems to suggest that the V2 low indeed is smaller than the highs. If this is by design it sure is a baffling decision, considering the design of the outer mold is/looks identical. Weird.

X2 on the v2 fresh out of the box skateability.
The 480s I walked around in them for a day before skating them and they feel like what I've always wanted Dunks to feel like. Stability and firm cushioning that doesn't pack out. Ideal cupsole IMO.

Did you notice Dunks have some of the worst grip? I tried Highs and a pair of lows and compared to everything I've skated Vans, NB#, etc. the dunks felt like my griptape was done but when I switched to other non-Nike shoes the grip felt immaculate.

Yeah, the tread pattern needs a total overhaul IMHO. They aren’t nearly as grippy as 480s.

Anyone else have an issue with the 480 where the arch digs into their mid foot? The toe box is a dream but damn it stings every time I land. I have the same issue with Tiagos.
[close]

This is a known issue. Somehow the profile of the insole seems to cause foot pain / discomfort for some peeps.

Try swapping the insole into a wider insole, e.g. a normal NB Ortholite insole. Seems to work for many.
[close]
yea definitely fit issues with my 480 Boss colorway. Was the midfoot - not specifically the arch, I swapped insoles from 1010 but didn’t really help a ton. Ended up having to get rid of them. Now the 440v2 giving me snugness issues too - after plenty of pairs (913, 1010, 440) fitting fine these last two a bit dissapointing

Big thank you to Rikki and Daydream, good to know I’m not the only person with this issue. It’s a bummer and it’s kept me from trying almost the entire lineup, maybe I’ll hunt down a cheap pair and insole swap. I will say the 550s fit me perfect but the board last is so firm on those it’s painful to skate for awhile. I was hurting after! They need to make a skate version. That could be perfection!

OK, now I am confused as shit.

I wore 11.5 in the 212/ 213s (a little snug but were usually fine after break in)
12 in the 440 V1 lows (bit of room to spare)
12 in the 272s (But these are too long and narrow). I fear 11.5 in these would be the right length but way too narrow for my feet.
and for what its worth 12 in the Skate Half cabs and most other Vans.

So my question is what size do I order the 440 V2 highs???

I don't want to unnecessarily shit on people or take away from what people are doing, but I think we need to cool it with the hiking styled stuff. I get that it's meant to be fun and all that, but there is like no utility to these. Like if I'm going hiking or on a trail, I'm going to wear a hiking/trail shoe. I'm not going to buy a skate sneaker. Why even include a rope lock when you're selling this with normal laces?

I know they look insane, but I skated a pair a year or so ago, and they were awesome.
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

When I had the 440 V2 Highs in hand/on foot, I ordered TTS, a 10.5 - they were nice and 'roomy' so much so I could put in a significant insole on TOP of the crappy ortholite one and they were a bit more snug without being tight (it's in this thread somewhere).

@Frank and Fred  9.5

https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=89457.msg3859996;topicseen#msg3859996

That was .5 size DOWN from a 10 (what I was wearing back then) as the 10s were huge on me - It was summer and I was wearing really thin socks + no extra insole.

I have since starting wearing 10.5s in most NB 600 and 440V2 were TTS (as far as NB# sizing goes), if anything I'd say they run just a hair big, but not enough to drop down to a 10, let alone a 9.5, so I tend to adjust the socks/insoles I'm wearing these days for most NB# to get the right fit (it's a hassle to be sure and it's the only brand I have to do it with).

OK. Thanks for the insight. I'm also struggling with Numeric fit. Was fine when I skated nothing but 212s/213s but those have been discontinued and I'm looking to be a bit nicer to my feet anyway.  Really like the 440 V1s so keen to try the 440 V2s, especially in a high. Prob just have to go try some on...

I ordered them from Zappos - easy returns (up to a year!); fast delivery no return fee.

https://www.zappos.com/p/unisex-new-balance-numeric-440-high-black-white-2/product/9450660/color/196917

Curenntly on trend at $67

Was a fan of the 440 v1 as well (mainly because I found a size that fit) but found them a bit hard and the V2s feel that way as well so I retuned them; I need to be nicer to my knees but can't go 1010/808 (too narrow)...and keep looking at the black/wht stitching (rowan colroway :P)...

Like you said, it’s, “hiking styled.” No one is claiming these are as good as hiking boots. Most people aren’t hiking through mud on steep trails, so these are functional for the average person.

Brush Alley has them:

The high tops have primaloft. Primaloft is a synthetic down replacement. Why would they release this in June? At Brush Alley that have four color ways of the original trail 440 that are still sitting on sale. This is just New Balance looking at the SK8-Hi MTE and copying.

Code broken?

I've tried all the 4s but the Franky and they fit TTS for the most part (I find them roomy/not snug)

417
440
472
480

600 also fit well for me.

Goddamn! Some fire colorways incoming. Been wanting an all black Tom Knox since the shoe first dropped

https://exodusrideshop.com/products/new-balance-numeric-440v2-wide-skateboard-shoe-black-olive?_pos=8&_fid=d6beccfb5&_ss=c&variant=41102663155830

They've got the 440 listed as wide, anyone know if this colorway is, in fact, the wide/2e version? @rothdigga ?

You should probably read the comment I responded to, because that's not my shop. That's the shop that he linked to. Also, if you do a quick Google you'll see that there are tons of shops with the prior color ways on sale. It has nothing to do with one shop not moving inventory. The southern hemisphere thing makes no sense because each region has different release dates, they could and should have held out until Fall to bring these out here. It's just gonna sit at retail for another six months
