Question for you NB# heads; My first pair of Numerics (600) are near the end of their life, they're easily the best shoes I've ever skated. I think I could go very slightly thicker on the sole but I don't want any extra chunk to the upper, so I'm eying up the 480. How much of a jump up are they from the 600?
The 1010 seems like the obvious choice but I don't like chunky uppers and I'd rather not spend £120 on 933s if I don't need to, although I'm very tempted...
Also, is the ankle tipping thing a problem for people who skate the stock insole, or is it only happening to people who are putting thick insoles in them? I always use stock insoles so I'm hoping they'll be fine.
If you love the 600, I would not recommend the 480. It's a very different shoe. The boardfeel is next to nonexistent, plus the stock insole has been a problem for many people, although I think they've updated that for the latter versions of the shoe. But one can't be 100 % in which insole one gets unless you try them on yourself. The original insole can make your feet feel cramped.
Plus, whereas the 600 is skateable pretty much from the get-go, the 480 can take a seriously long time to properly break in, and still feel bulky. It's a heavy-feeling shoe in general.
This is all my subjective opinion, but based on what I've read here and online, I'm not alone. In a nutshell: the 480 is a good shoe for people who like a very thick sole with minimal boardfeel. On the flipside, it's probably one of the longest-lasting shoes on the market with very, very good impact protection.
Anyway, in your case, I'd rather try the 1010.
