Figured this was the best thread to ask this
Was Madrid the first company with a cut out?
Also, do they make longboarding grip now?
Saw the Vans edit and they caught my attention

Sometimes I just draw something on my black grip with paint pen.  I could have sworn I saw a Stevie Nicks tattoo on BA in that Vice video, guess that motivated me to try and draw something.  Free hand paint pen from an online stencil picture.

I don't get how people can skate anything but straight black.  Like seeing all the pictures of pros with shake junt and grizzly.  It seems like it would be distracting. Then all the kids at the park with the crazy artistic stuff, with photos and stencils.  I just don't get it, but to each there own.  I guess it's like dudes who wear, "Gear" when they skate.  I respect guys like Duffel and Greco for their talents, but could never see throwing on a leather jacket, a bunch of jewellery, and fedora to go skate LA when its 80 degrees out

The red shake junk is the worst. I personally think it ruins Cyril's tricks.

I usually have fun with it somehow. Depending how much time I make for it, I'll get crafty like this Larry David one, or if I'm in a rush, I'll use spray paint.

Where's the Larry David one?

I always go all black too, but this thread is making me want to mix things up a little.
Just something minor, like keeping a cool top graphic visible.

Those ginopops ones are almost cool, but have a bit too much going on for me.
The coolness of Smithers with a licorice whip, is brought way down by the presence of Austin Powers.

But at the same time, that Manolo board is a work of art. You make that Mano?

The World Grip thing came about because when riders were sent their package they received grip in squares not rolls. True story.
so that's where this bright idea came from

Black Magic grip tape

Yes, definitely an excellent alternative to Mob. I'd say it's even more coarse, so if you're trying to make your shoes last you might not wanna go with BM. I've been skating free Jessup or Iron Horse most of my life but lately I've come to the conclusion that Jessup sucks. Every summer the past few years during hot days it just melts off the edges and all that's there is the adhesive part, no grip. Sticking with regular Mob from now on never had any problems with it.

Do people still do the "G-Stripe?" (The off center tape job that left a half inch or so of one edge bare)

That was huge around 1999.

i've heard people calling that the "east coast line" nowadays

I always hear "EMB stripe"
i still do it. i was always told the tail is east coast stripe and the nose is a west coast stripe.

I cant believe you gripped over bolts! Fuck you man! Fuck you.... fuck you :'(

I made a discovery if you sharpie your grip then spray paint over, the sharpie still shows through. Massive trends to be had here with this method. I cant upload picture, only video so I addressed the truck thread too, also a dance inspired by that longboarder wearing suspenders. My thing is to write bad words and sayings so I skate harder and faster. I look down and see "eat shit" and "cunt", yeah, Im goin for it. Also all the sharpie shit is backwards cause I was a tweaking dumbass. Sporting am-grip. I guess its some revive shit.
Tattoo see through grip, Interpretive dance, It dont matter

I always grip over my bolts ALWAYS, deal with it! 8)
I used to do that sharpie trick using black sharpie vs. white spray paint.
I was really into this band called 'painted thin' (still am actually) so I used to write it on my griptape in black and give at quick spray with the white, let the excess drip down the board and voila!

Damn, I thought I stumbled upon the philosophers stone. Nobel peace prize worthy, eh, nothing is original I guess.

Has Rodney Mullen ever gripped the bottom of his board instead of the top for long darkslide sessions? If not he should have.

It's still pretty underground bro, you should try black on black so that you can only see it in the right light :D
Pretty sure mullen at least gripped his tail when he was first bringing darkslides over to actual street boards (i.e. early plan b days)

Freestyle dudes like to put some grip on the tail and nose for the darkslides and some other tricks. It's one common use for clear grip, too. A little does it.

Gripped my last board drunk and ended up with a pretty heavy g-stripe. At the time I thought fuck it I've seen this look rad but it's big enough that I'm pretty sure people can tell it was unintentional

Recently I saw a pic of a teenaged T-PUDZ riding in some tournament (let's say Tampa) and the little bear was there on his tape. It was shocking and it made me warm up to the brand a little... but I'm not paying a premium on sandpaper and glue just because there's a doodle on it. Ever.

Writing a little something on your grip with whiteout still gets a pass but that's been dead since Yeah Right. "Philly gripping" your board is always a go and if you don't know what I'm talking about then you were probably born after 9/11. Otherwise shits pretty corny free Max b

All black for life. Leave the art on the deck. Went to NYC recently and all the kids at black hubba spray painted the shit out of their grip. Looked like vomit
