Anyone ever ridden a Palace 8.2 or 8.3? I usually ride Thunders (usually forged plates) or Ventures and I can't find a good measurement of the kicks. A friend told me they have tiny tails, but there's a Lucas Puig deck on sale I'm tempted by.

i’d also like to hear about palace decks. first one last one was in the olly todd era. no local shops carry.
i’ve thought about mail ordering one from uprise

Palace is DSM wood (like anything from Dwindle) so for the most part they are the same, but the 8.3 shape is a weird one with a super long 14.8 wheelbase and also people have said it measures longer than listed, about 32.2 or so, whereas all other shapes are way more normal in dimensions.

If you have had any other epoxy resin pressed deck, you would know how stiff and snappy they are, way stiffer than the normal boards from major suppliers from Mexico, like BBS or PS Stix.  Too stiff for me personally, but other people love them and skate well on them.

What else are you coming from in terms of previous wood / brands or whatever sizes of board?

Giving serious thought to picking up a Generator G86 deck from skatesamples.com of late.
God help me; I certainly have no need of more wood and yet, here I find myself, rationalizing another bloard.

Same, on the twin egg shape (GFB), even though I've never skated an egg or anything above 8.5 in my entire life. The G85S looks interesting too.

Are you allowed to mix boards sizes in the 5 or 10 pack? Would make it easier to share the load among friends.
Venture Truck Height:

will indy 144 works well with april boards? currently using 8.375 mariano deck with 148 thunder standards. thinking to get indy 144 hollow/forged hollow, i wonder how much off my timings will be. wheels now F4 53mm CF.

That is the generic Generator 8.375 that probably works fine with anything. I hate forged Indys, but I had that shape a few times on forged Thunders and liked it fine. If you don't dislike it now there's likely nothing to be gained by switching trucks.

I mostly rode Thunders for years but then tried Aces and Indys for a while. Totally gaslighted about the baseplate and turn by lurking this sub. Rode those brands for 5 years before switching back and it was often a waste of time at best.

thanks for the insights. coming into my 40s soon i am still far from settling down on constant shape vs suitable trucks but for sizes  gonna ride with 8.25-8.3 for a while. i might getting the indys just to alternating between setups a-la Ben D.G....also this year is the first time ever i felt very good on board after few years of slight pain and full year last year twisted my knee. had the indys last time but it was in my pain era so not really felt good on anything that time.

Any of y'all skated the Quasi 8.25 made my PS Stix? I've been trying to find an 8.25 I like for a while and this one is calling my name. Only thing is I'm having trouble finding the full specs online. Anybody know what the length of the kicks are on this one? And is it actually 32.375" long measured tip to tip because that seems really long for an 8.25?

PS measures along the concave, so its shorter (measured straight tip to tip as BBS does).

I have hated every square PS I have ever had so I can't recommend one. The noses are often square and steep as hell.

I'm not a fan of the super square shapes either, but this one has more of a traditional shape. Tactics has a good photo of the shape, but their specs are sometimes way off.

Skated the BDK stoned deck which I think is the same shape. It felt like a BBS shape on ps wood. I really liked it. Can send pictures of the one I skated if you want.

A Real Easy Rider. My buddy had one at the park yesterday, I stood on it and it felt good, not ridiculously flat. The shape's getting good reviews and it seems like it'll be good for flip tricks. They got snatched up quick at the local shops though.

Ok

I'm in the market for the best skate tool. This might be it.

[close]

I have one and I can't recommend it.

The plastic body of the tool is larger in diameter than the sockets and prevents the tool from fitting onto the kingpin nut on many trucks. Ironically it's especially bad on some indys.

I have an Ace tool specifically because the Indy wouldn't fit my trucks.

I asked Indy to refund my money and they wouldn't.
[close]

Indy tool won't fit indy trucks? Jesus...

I recently tried to throw some Krux downlow kingpins into Indy’s - incompatible. Leave it up to NHS to have aftermarket parts not work for their own companies.
For someone w.no signature ur awfully hostile, & that is why I do this

Someone talk me out of this but I have a brand new set of Venture 5.8s with 58mm conical fulls that I'm looking to put on a board. This would be a secondary fun board that I'd still like to be able to skate like my main board. I've been looking at all kinds of weird shapes and from everything I've seen out there the Cardiel Huffer seems like what I'm looking for. I'm not crazy about twin tails which a lot of the egg boards appear to be which makes the Huffer sound good, and looking at it, it does not look like it'd be hard to get used to coming from a popsicle vs some of those square tailed boards. Do I got the right idea with the Huffer or should I be looking at something else?

Huffer shape is a really good one with a great tail, compared to some of the egg or other shaped boards out there, which often have very small and not as functional tails / shapes in general.  It is very big for 8.5" trucks though, but if you don' t mind the magic carpet, it would still go ok.

Some people put 8.75" trucks on their huffers, others wider, like my 9" trucks which work well on one I have set up as a cruiser on 60 mm soft wheels, but it is all down to personal opinion.

I guess it is also down to availability of boards, or what you want to get out of it, but something closer to 8.75 max would be what I would look at for 8.5" trucks, but that is just me - eg the DLX 8.62 or 8.75 shapes are really good and you don't get the weird shaped board thing, even though some people really do like getting an egg or other shaped board to have fun on.

Others I know have that sort of set up and it works really well, is big enough to have fun on but not silly and almost comic looking like some other shaped options I have stood on / skated recently.

Hope that helps, either way.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Make sure it has wheels on it, like this one.

I still have this shirt too - pull it out whenever I am feeling like my bones are aching too much to skate, so it is more for fun than anything, but yeah, sometimes things hurt too much to roll, or because you went for a roll.

Considering buying aces, been on Thunder lights the past few years. Also thinking about the Samba adv for some reason.

As you may know, Ace are going to be very turn-y for you after thunders. I find thunder to be not very turn-y feeling. Ace stock bushings are like 78 bottom/92top if I remember correctly. Independent stage 4 bushings fit Ace AF-1s. I've replaced the ace bushings with 90 bottom and ace 94tops. Still turn-y but less floppy for my weak ankles ha.

I ordered exactly that one and it worked very well. Never had a fancier rub brick though so I can't say for sure they're as good as those more expensive ones.

I have standard 149 thunders and hollow light 151’s. Do I really need to buy a set of team hollows? (Likely in 151 or 161 even) No, but I want to. 😹

Wait for the skateone back to school sale and get a pair for less than $30. Get the Riptide bushings and pivot cup for a less twitchy ride. Won't replace my Aces but they are fun.
