GH5 + Meike 3.5

Looks so good. An actual improvement over the VX1K/Mk1, which the HPVX/Xtreme never was. Looks fast despite being 50p. Looks smooth because it's 50p. And because you shot it well. Corners don't wobble. Nary a cut off head. The whip camera moves don't make a person sick. You did it. This should be the new standard. Better still GH5 bodies are like $€400 and that fisheye is like $€150. Simply sick.

You gotta use the unshortened link, and also drop the s from https, and sometimes add in www

Looks like this, minus the asterisks

Good shit. I really like the look of the 3.5mm Meike. Are you using it on a GH5?

From the comparisons I've seen, the 4mm Laowa and 7 Artisans, and the 3.5mm Meike all have roughly the same size image circle, so will all vignette the same on a given camera.

Have you tried leaving a bit of vig in your clips? I like the idea of no vig, but in reality, 90% of the time I prefer a little.

Danny Falla's new video has a lot of clips with no vig that look very good. Not sure the kit. Sometimes the shadow it casts looks like a phone.

im not sure if i’ve gone into detail about the set-up/process to make the footage look like this so i’ll mention a few things

-i use the panasonic AF-100 with the meike and i believe that the old cinema cameras are truly better than the GH4-GH5 set ups with 4K n all that

-i just film whatever the camera and fisheye picks up because there isn’t any toggle zoom on the AF-100 and just resize everything in final cut pro for 4:3

-it really comes down to scene files imo

and lastly meike 3.5/6.5> canon 8-15 🤷🏾‍♂️

You were asking about the vig on the Meike 3.5mm and then you said you shot that clip on the AF100 with a Meike. So I guess you shot with a 6.5mm Meike, no? I thought it looked a little cramped. If you got a 4mm Laowa, you can get that fishy as fuck look, but it's gonna vignette like a motherfucker. Same with the 3.5mm Meike and 4mm 7 Artisans. So you gotta zoom quite a lot in post, which is where you get fucked by shooting on an AF100 at max 1080p and like 25Mbit/s. That's where 4K/5K/6K and high bitrates come in handy. Might still look okay, though. Have you tried that, 4mm Laowa on the AF100, heavily cropped in post? I'm guessing you start to see jaggies after you get the vig where you want.

the clips i posted was 4k 4mm laowa on a gh4.

The GH4 has a 2.3x crop when shooting 4K, right? That would explain the no vig, slightly punched in look.

youre right, full hd is 2x crop and 4k is 2.4. you can also do the punch in which is double crop, which I think I was getting confused about.

Oops, you're totally right. Sorry about that.

AF100 + Meike 3.5mm looks like a winning combination then. Not for nothing it doesn't cast such an ugly looking shadow like a lot of mirrorless kits do. That's a bonus.

Dude rips, by the way.

Hows the Wooden Camera mic going?  Comparable to the VX mic?  I just got a PD150 and i'm looking at putting the wooden mic on it.

These are two sick videos I've been watching a bunch lately. Both were filmed on the hpx with the mk1 combo.

Beautiful. Stepping up the game. Looking forward yet staying faithful to the VX/MK1 standard. Do you find much difference between the GH4 and -5? Are you shooting V-Log at all? The YouTube stats-for-nerds list it as 1440 50p. Did you capture everything as 50i and 50p? I ask because it doesn't suffer from the kind of soap opera effect of looking "too smooth" that some recent 60p releases have had. Were you mostly using a 1/100s shutter or rather faster?
All around great.

Thanks!!

I've been switching back and forth with the GH4/5. I prefer the GH4 in good lighting because it's a little lighter, which makes it more natural to point the camera the right way. GH5 you really have to think to tilt up the camera, but the quality is definitely better.

No V-Log

It's 50 fps because i use a PAL VX-1000 in 25 fps

My shutter is usually pretty high 250/320

I've been doing 4:3 HD/4k for the last year or so, here are some recent pieces. Using a Fujifilm X-T4/X-T50 with an Opteka 6.5mm f2 fisheye, setting the camera to 'Fixed Movie Crop Magnification 1.29x' which crops the APS-C sensor an extra 1.29x (1.25x on the X-T50) which basically makes it the same size as a micro four thirds sensor which of course works perfect for 4:3 with the 6.5 fisheye.

Hey pals, camera noob here. I have a question. Does any of you might have experiences with a macro filter? My fisheye lens needs a macro lens otherwise the footage wouldn't be sharp. Can I get the same results with a macro filter instead of a macro lens? And does a filter work the same way as a macro lens? Right now my setup is in that order. Camcorder, spacer ring, macro lens, spacer ring, fisheye lens. I only found a link on Temu for such a filter. Here is the link to said filter.

*Edit

I made a lil test video. First clip is just the camcorder, second clip is the fisheye I use. What ya all think about the quality?

Picked up my stills camera a couple years ago and fell back in love with filming! Wish I had the time to get out more like I used to when we were kids.
Shot on Panasonic mirrorless's with Canon 8-15mm fish.

Looks good, what frame rate did you film with an export out to?
