Does anyone even think of him when they think of the shoe? I remember him bitching about Vans not marketing the shoe or paying him what he wanted on the Nine Club. It would be cool if he was self aware like Stefan and knew the shoe superseded his own relevancy a long time ago.

When I think of Half Cabs I think of Mike Carroll skating the upper part of Wallenberg and the Santa Monica courthouse to some De La Soul, when I think of the full-sized hi-top Cab shoes I think of Gonz in Video Days

Mike Carroll, Fred Gall, and Matt Reason RIP are who I think of when I think about Half Cabs.

Shoes & Gear / Re: What shoe brand do you skate most often?

It's usually been Vans for me, but with them raising prices on their shoes it's getting hard to justify getting them when you can get much better options for the same or similar price.

How on earth was Bob ever on Anti Hero given their strict team vibe check?

When the "Hellride" crew first went to Brazil, Bob was there, no sponsors or anything and he readily jumped in the team van with the AH crew at the time.  In those early years he was still so raw and keen, so was absolutely one of the usual AH type of dudes, but over time things changed, sponsors outside of skateboarding provided more income for him and he parted ways with AH to then pursue the competitions and mega ramp and other aspects of the bright lights and so on.

I think in an interview there was a little remorse in parting ways, but it seemed he and everyone else was stoked on his AH years and he still has the tramp stamp and is fond of that time, so it is not all quite as some people might think, looking at his Flip years or more recent skating anyway.

Edit:

Board timeline:

AH from 1995 to 1999, then The Firm 2000 to 2003 or so, then Flip after that.

Brands like Hurley, Oakley and similar were against the AH vibe, so that was around 2000 that things changed.

I want him to get help too, which is why I want him to get help from things that work and not just turn to religion instead. I don't think him or anyone just being religious is suffering from a mental illness, but more that he needs help from a mental health professional, has been open about his issues, and religion is not going to help him as anything more than a temporary fix. And it might even make things worse and who knows if it might open him to other dangers as well.

I could have made that more clear probably.

Mallie ultimately came in and made a post I broadly agree with:
I'm not high on religion, especially of organized sort, but if any kind of spirituality helps you and brings you peace - go for it. Fuck it, even organized one. If the structure helps you and if you need to attend services the same way you attend AA/NA meetings etc. - sure, why, doesn't harm anyone.

But it needs to be a part of a complete and multi-disciplinary assesment, diagnosis and a "supplement" to physiological and psychological help you get. If you are aware that you have mental health issues, even have ones diagnosed (especially ones based on delusions and paranoias), and then just wake up one day and say - oh, nope, no problem, I found a theory that proves I'm perfectly fine - yeah, no, it ain't it chief.

Wouldn't care otherwise, but I really like his skating and would really love for anyone that troubled to find proper peace, not an illusion of it, or to replace it with another obsession.
