Saw a Meme saying Elijah put a lock on a spot after skating it. Anyone know the back story?
-
the story goes that earl berle grinded this rail outside of KITH on sunset boulevard and put a bike lock on it so no one else could skate it, but fucked up and didn't put it on properly. some time later, grant taylor moved the lock and was skating the rail and cody green - the vans filmer - happened up on them and told them elijah already grinded the rail and tried his hardest to get them to stop skating the spot. grant's photo was used in a nike ad, you can see the lock at the top of the rail but at the bottom of the support

It's apparently on the ground. Doesn't make any sense why he would put a lock under the lowest rail.

Most likely he locked it on top and Grant maneuvered it to the bottom rail support

Nice try. Musta went to toilet school and learned how to put that lock on

Thread should be named "Elijah Berle is a cunt"

How do you mess up where to put the lock?

In Southern California there is a lot of skaters and filmers that do this. Bike locking spots, bunch of dorks. I’ve tried to air out a couple people on here about doing it.

Rumor has it Elijah tore the building down thinking it would ruin the juxtaposition of any photo taken there after his.

That’s true, but I should’ve said form instead of photo. Berle looks bent over and stiff holding onto that heel lock for the 5050. Grant looks like he’s blasting through the curve without a care in the world.

I think it's kind of wack from the point of view that a handrail is for shared use in public space. People do need to use a handrail for support. If someone is vision impaired and can't see a lock on the rail they could get their hand jammed up in it.
-
It's wack he'd put a lock on it but isn't it also wack to do a trick when you were told someone else already did it and was, presumably, gonna use the trick for a video/photo?
-

Maybe it’s a hockey/fa thing to put locks on rails.
Also as @Lame_Nigga (man I felt so weird typing your name to tag you.) it’s lame to out a lock on it‘a almost just as lame to skate a spot after being told it’s gonna be in a video. Like if it was a local pro thing it be less word but I’d think between pros there would be some sort of understanding.
Also GTs looks way cooler. I wanna be able to 50-50 with my trucks crossed like GT and not all heel side like wack ass Berle.

If you're skating an 8.0 or below, you can heel side lock. If you're skating 8.38 and higher, you should cross lock cause no one is trying to see your wide ass trucks overhanging off the bar. If youre between those sizes you may cross lock or heel lock. This is the way.

No. Not really into politics. Imore into fiction. Ive appropriated the term "virtue signaling" here to address the hipocracy of being all inclusive, yet trying to burn someone at the stake for the way they dress. Elijah Berle is a painted bird.

As as a Berle fan, what makes you think this "phase" is contrived? I would definitely agree Berle has had his moments of not being the most "original" skater in the world, but I think the release of this video had him come into his own at least somewhat?
I am not claiming you are making these assertions, but I keep seeing the Dylan comparisons and besides having impossibles on lock and a closet of wife beaters and high watered pants, Berle has a much more aggressive, crusty vibe to his skating.
Maybe that is, like you said, being contrived from some of his hockey teammates but I really think the video part was a big moment for Berle and its a bummer to see it get written off as Dylan cosplay.

I totally agree that his part was incredible, and I meant what I said about his ability on round rails in particular. I think it's hard to separate the theatre, if you will, when it's now almost expected. And this is nothing new. Obviously Greco is the captain of this club, and Ethan (my love) wore a few different hats.
His Dylan-ness right now is pretty heavy.... clothing, hair, impossibles, team..... almost makes me wonder what's going on in Dill's head (I really have no right to say this as I don't know either of them).
However, maybe I'm just being a hater from my office and diminishing skill set.

I think the Dylan-ness may be heavier than I am giving credit too, but I guess I also look at Dylan clones as trying to put an effort into image and, for lack of a better term, being the "sexy" skater (someone like Sean Pablo comes to mind.)
I also agree with your curiosity of Dill and the gang being aware to how derivative some of this stuff can appear (this is coming from someone riding a Hockey deck rn)
I appreciate your points man, I dont think youre being a negative nancy from an office chair

Berle is incredible and a round rail magician for sure, but he just makes it so hard to like him. Not even knocking him for this alleged lock thing, which seems to be a big nothing (like most things here). He just seems so contrived at every turn of his career.

To be honest Elijah was already changing in Propeller, it really isn't all that sudden change people here claim it is. The biggest difference is he put on some better shirts and stopped hiding his hair. The arm thing is kinda weird, though.

it is just a popular style now, dylan was not the first to dress like that even im sure. i thought the mechanic outfit was a bit much haha but w/e these guys like to influence fashion and shit i like when they push limits like that
jon dickson came on heavy with that full camo outfit
its just like how that baggy cargo / camos in the 2000s with the massive osiris was corny

This sort of reminds me of the Clint Walker thing. I forget the name of the spot, stairs that Reynolds destroys in Baker 3 (Wilshire?). Anyhow, the city put up an obstruction at the end to discourage people from skating it, Clint gaps the whole fucker, sits on the footage. Then some kid winds up doing it and posting it on Instagram and Clint and company melts down about it.
I think this is the risk of holding onto footage, and no one is at fault. If you want to gamble on no one else doing it that's your choice, but you can't cry if someone else does it after and publishes it before you.

You can’t even lock a rail like that with a U-lock..

Rewatching 'Alright, OK' for the third time now I feel like 95% of Berles clips have a discernible moment, usually just a moment after landing the trick, where he switches from the spaghetti armed, mouth open omar salazar that he is and clicks into a blatantly obvious re-enactment of like, 3 different classic Dylan landings. The elephant in the room is that Dylan's style was genuine and orginal, and that Berle will never successfully fill those shoes or even try on those shoes. What was sick about Dylan was that he was both classic and futuristic at the same time, like it didn't look weird to see a photo of him with classical tattoos and dress shoes while holding an iphone and supreme stickers on his board. He was timeless and pioneering and defining and at the same time didn't give a fuck. Berle clearly gives a fuck, which only ads to the confused image of a 1940's greaser living in LA that wears iPods and drinks starbucks all day. Like the goth kid that shoes up to school with his face powdered and mascara when you know he eats eggo waffles for breakfast just like everyone else and not goat blood

I think Dylan milked his style a little because most people do, but other than that I agree 100% with this.

From what I remember it was some random kid from the midwest or something who was out in Cali and did it. Releasing the footage on insta didn't do him any favors, where he even is now? The kook move was being desperate instead of simply trying to talk about it before, there's no way he couldn't have a conversation and still post it before the mag came out, magazines take time, an insta post is made in seconds. And releasing after the cover would just prove his own gnarlyness, just like that dude that bombed the same hill as Milton on that poster.

Didn't Clint try to talk to the kid and then he posted out of nowhere? A kooky thing to do, they could've done a double cover or something.
I think so? I don't remember the specifics and found the whole thing to be lame. I think I felt like both parties sucked.
Probably.
From what I remember it was some random kid from the midwest or something who was out in Cali and did it. Why would he hide something like that just so a well known am / pro could get the shine for doing it? Anyone who commits to something that sick shouldnt have to bury their own clips to make pros happy, that sounds like some Stevie Williams NBA shit. If Clint was so worried about someone else taking credit he should have put a bike lock on it.
Mm I think it was a black LA skater on FA flow who went by a nickname. It apparently cost Clint cover money which I get being upset about, but went about it in a typical Clint Walker way
Yeah that Fa flow kid Reef I think. Clint did it first but thrasher wanted to save it for a possible cover. So this other kid does it, Clint reaches out and asks him not to post it and wait for the photo to come out, kid says “okay” and then turns around a couple hours later and posts the clip. Pretty goddamn whack, if you ask me

Clint is surprisingly un-kooklike in that article. He understands that both skaters had high stakes and seems sympathetic to Reef. This article ask presages the new reality, where some of the biggest skaters in on Instagram (and hence, biggest skaters in the world) have more or less completely circumvented the industry

Clint always gonna be fighting that small D energy he presented us with on kotr.
That pretty.reef guy ain't the best either, unfollowed him a couple years back, was he posting guns on his ig story or something? I dunno some kinda lame shit
As for Elijah he really needs a fixer or some shit, it's a travesty to be that sick at skating and to be doing shit like this

I find it fascinating that Greg Hunt would go through all of the effort to make an account just to say Elijah didn't lock that spot while at the same time NOT making an effort to say Elijah doesn't use male chastity devices. Without saying anything at all, Greg Hunt said so much. Elijah locks his cock.

-
I had to come on here to say this is not true.
Not even close. I was there.
I’ve actually never even heard Elijah talk about doing something like that.
So let’s move along.
just thought it would be fun to bump this since the AJP article from heccride said this definitely did happen, albeit Cody rather than Elijah doing the locking
scandalous!
https://heckride.com/f/b-roll-andrew-james-peters (https://heckride.com/f/b-roll-andrew-james-peters)
After Elijah grinded this thing, Cody went and put a bike lock on the rail so that no-one would go and grind it before the footage came out. The project ‘Alright, OK’ was still a while out from being finished and new spots get taken out super quickly in LA. Sure enough a couple of weeks later Grant Taylor went there and they realized the bike lock was on the wrong part of the rail, so they could just pull it up the top and it was not in the way at all. The photo was out in the next mag as an ad, way before Elijah’s photo could see the light of day. They still used Elijah’s footage and what better duo to share a 5050 than Elijah and Grant, I hope they still use Grants footage too. You can see the bike lock in Grant’s ad too, up at the top.

Except that's not what happened. Reef called him back, said 'actually man I'm not gonna hold it' and then chilled. Clint decides 'well fuck it, let's beat him to the punch' and then all of the Birdhouse team posted it at once, Reef posted it after that.
