The ave’s are sick. The other pair is interesting. But I expect vans to drop the ball.

These kinda remind me of the Matt Miller DC shoe. Or something from New Balance.

Needless to say in the right colorway they’ll be great and I may cop as long as the shoe isn’t flat like the last one. Great shoe but my arches were killing me.

Cody Chapman shoe dropped recently. What's the deal with this sole? I assume it's one of those cupsole/vulc hybrid things but it would be nice if someone finally made an actual cupsole hightop.

I'm pretty sure the Lizzie is actually a vulc. The Crockett High is techically a cup but Van's Wafflecup tech is barely a step above a vulc. I would go as far as to say the same for the NB 440 since the midsole only goes part way up the sole. I've also been searching for a proper hightop cupsole lol

My thoughts as well, as for the others on the list they're just not my style so I shouldn't have implied that high top cupsoles don't exist but rather ones that have a different style more akin to those with the 'fake' cupsole would be amazing. Has anyone skated shoes with the XLK sole?

Anyone know if the atlantic sole feels any different from the more simple xlk sole? The simple xlk sole on the telfords is paper thin, and it's been tricky trying to find an insole that doesn't take up too much room.

The Proto/Atlantic XLK sole is a bit stiffer than the original Telford/Brighton sole. Once broken in it’s really nice and I’m glad they switched the Atlantic sole onto the Telfords (I’m on my second pair now). The benefit to the “Simple XLK” sole is that it breaks in like a vulc shoe while still having better support than a vulc. That’s most likely why Cody and Griffin are using it because they skate vulcs.

There’s also another bulkier XLK sole that’s used on the Fade, Evo 2.0 XLK, Trudger, and the new MOD Cup. You could throw in any insole and it will make them even better (Footprint, Es Insole, Dr Scholls ect).

I forgot about the lakai trudger. IMO the Lakai, XLK sole was pretty bad. I've skated a couple of pair of telfords highs. didn't like either of them. I similarly found them the be flimsy and thin. It was two years ago when they first rereleased. It's possible that they could have improved since

but yeah, Only about 8 options out of all the skate shoes out now. Not much choice for hightop fans.

Aves had a bunch of shoes he never really wore. Funnily it's almost impossible to find the first Ave 2 which looked like one of those random footlocker Jordans.

SP24's AVE doesn't look like these at all.
and they don't look like the ones Ave was wearing a few weeks ago

And AVE definitely had some Sears/Kohls Vans pro models. The AVE 4 and 5 had some weird names (Avenger and Avenue maybe?) and were not advertised in mags or skate shops at all, but that’s why he went from having footage and ads that skipped from him wearing the AV3 to the AV6 in like 2008/2009 to 2010/2011.

AVE skates a few LA parks consistently that my friends skate and they joke that they've never seen him there once in his shoes. When he posts stuff on IG it is about 75% other Vans models with clips in his shoes usually being posts.

His current shoe isn't bad and in some colorways looks pretty good in a "you might not love it but you can't hate it" way, its just that it has terrible durability for the price tag and a lot of the colorways are heinous.

Its just like Vans to be 3-4 years late to a trend and put out something that no one would have even wanted during the original era.

Feel like for the last 4 years or so if youre not buying Nike's in Aus youre kinda blowing it. (Assuming you have to pay full price) the zahba mids are $250 but Leo bakers new Nike is only $150, half cab pros $220 Blazers only $120 and you can compare plenty of other stuff with a huge difference in price.
No idea why but Aus always seems to have one brand that for a couple years is way cheaper than others and the price doesn't even reflect with how much the shoes are overseas. There was a while where DC were the same price in Aus as in the us so in America the mike mo and prod cost the same but in Aus the mike most were like $70 cheaper

Those new Vans are... interesting? I guess I'm glad they're trying to branch out but I couldn't even see AVE wearing that.

Did I dream this or have we discussed the existence of a NB 480 mid/hi? I'm wanting a readily available cupsole high or mid and I really dig the 480s but my ankles are wonky (ligament strains maybe?) so Blazers with superfeet insoles are what I find myself skating more.

Yeah @DISTANT RUMOURS I was actually talking/posting about these a little while back. A pair is coming my way soon, stoked. I had a pair of the Skate Half Cab awhile back and didn't like it, but I'm willing to try these out and give it a second chance (since these are supposed to be similar to the Half Cab design).

Also, I was informed that these aren't coming to Canada, so if any Canadian heads want to cop them, best bet is a shop in the US.

@rothdigga confirmed that 480 highs are coming out early 2024! I think it was discussed in the NB containment thread and some very low quality screenshots were posted of him skating an all black pair.

Great colorway. Bummed though that these are retailing for $20 more than both previous MC 96 colorways AND that Vans couldn't even throw spare laces in with this pair. Makes no sense.
