@TastyBurrito congrats on the moons watch, I’d go khaki coloured nato on that one, or maybe even a bind strap if you want to colourway coordinate?

Thanks. Pushing 40, I decided to finally have a watch that wasn't a G-Shock (though I won't be giving those up).

Also, thanks for the idea of the Nato strap. That field strap aesthetic is what I'm looking for. Something casual seeing that I'm never dressed up. HAHA.

I really enjoyed the Swatch x Omega Moonswatch collab, thought it was a fun idea well executed. Those Fifty Fathoms are not doing it for me at all though - I don’t what it is but something in the proportions or strap says Happy Meal Toy.

I passed the Swatch shop in Lyon last Saturday they had the full line up of the Moonswatchs  on display in the window, had I not read  my emails 30 mins earlier on the train I would have bought one...(unexpected bill, well unexpected amount). @TastyBurrito that is the exact one I want to get. When you change the strap post a pic!

Yeah, some colour options are nice. And its waterproof.
Yet its plastic, has a no saphire crystal, is 42,5mm and costs 400.

Not for me. Just think of all the other watches you coulf buy for 400.

Since someone asked for square watches…
At 105 euros the swatch „what if“ might be a good one.

 Dammit…. I broke my seiko SNXS79K…

I dropped it from a shelf to concrete floor, now the hands keep spinning and the rotor seems broken.

Is there even a point in getring it examed for a repair?

The watch is 170euros on amazon now…

Any recs for a watch to be active in? Something that could take a beating. Basically I’m looking for a watch to skate, swim, and ride bikes with. Maybe something with a nato or rubber strap?

cool that you’re down to wear 38mm, I’m sure it suits your style!
What sort of watch style are you thinking? As @TastyBurrito said, g-shock should be your first go to but I’m guessing you want something more traditional?
For GADA (go anywhere, do anything) watches it’s going to be really hard for me to NOT recommend divers or field watches because that is what both were designed to be. Next question is quartz vs. automatic (and maybe handwind); I used to be strictly auto or hand wind but that Heuer 1000 series maybe me appreciate quartz a lot more.

My initial thought was Hamilton khaki field mechanical in 38mm. It comes on a nato, is fully brushed and can take a beating, the only problem is the w/r (5 bar), I’ve heard hamiltons should be kept dry where possible…

My next port of call would be citizen Ny0040, yes I harp on about this one but it’s was used by Italian military divers so you know it’s up for the job. Comes on rubber (in most cases), looks even tougher on a nato. Specs on paper can look deceiving, it wears smaller on the wrist. Bonus points if you get the blue Sunray dial or the fully lumed one!

Obviously if you talk about the above watch, the Skx needs to be mentioned too! Go for the Skx013 in 38mm, it’s classier. The problem these days is the price has skyrocketed meaning you’re not getting enough back for you buck… seiko 5 dropped some colorful versions in the same case but w/r is only 100m…
OG

Seiko 5

Honestly if I was looking for a mid size Seiko diver that wasn’t a 62mas, I’d probably go for a SBDN069, it’s solar powered so super no fuss and it has the look and size.
Will work well on rubber or nato.

Then there’s the whole tag Heuer 1000 series I was talking about which is a bit of a vintage watch rabbit hole, but they are tough as nails and can take a beating.

I don’t sway very far from divers though so perhaps some other posters should give you some input too?

I ended up picking up a Casio royale. A lot of look for $23. But if I had $250 to spend on something I knew I’d beat up, that Hamilton khaki would be it.

I have a khaki field quartz that's been well loved for many years. I wear it practically all the time skating, swimming, whatever really. no issues and still keeping great time!
Let me preface this post with the fact that I am slightly inebriated, very uneducated and I havent read any papers or done any research at all, or read your post really.

That SBDN069 might be my next (and last). I wanted a Seiko diver, but don’t want to be dropping $1200 for the automatic.

Also, love that it works with the Nato band because metal bands don’t work with my heffer arms. Haha.

LOL. Yea, even though that audience will be people 40 years and older, I’d rock something cheap and wouldn’t be bummed to break/lose. Something like the calculator Casio. In fact, that would be preferred as that’s probably what Milo wore when he went to college.

haha! You’re probably right about Milo’s choice of watch. Will probs just go with my CWC on a nato; if it was strong enough for soldiers in the British army, it should be able to withstand a few balding (and mostly jaded) punk rockers …
