Back when Arto went to ride for AWS people said Flip would still use his footage in the video, any truth to this?  Does Ben Nordberg have footage in the video?

Hmmm, in an interview in TSM he said some of his Alien footy was from 2003, 2004. If they got that, they probably got all of it.

from what i've seen he has a bit, id say as much as shane, he had that transworld cover with a couple of photos in it and others ads with etnies and others, im pretty sure he would be sitting on a bit of footage, most of the flip team keep there footage pretty low key though, the last flip video came out ages im sure Ali had time to get a bit before the crash

I'm pretty shure geoff said more then once everyone is getting a full part, i'm shure boulala and shane have enough footy, they were filming for more then a couple of years when tragedy happened. and willow have some CRAZy stuff filmed, It would'nt hurt to edit a full part of that beast.

I'm so freaking exicited with this video, geoff is my all time favorite, and I know someone on the team personaly, and I've watched let's live about 100 times on a tour that only had this dvd on the van, so in to shane crossl skating.and that lance cover!!!!!!

They shouldnt care about people putting their vids on the internet anyway, it will boost board sales, and thats the whole point right? Not to make a few measly bucks off of every sold dvd.

says they are selling some copies at the end of the premiere, but if no one puts it up from there then we'll have to wait until it hits the shops...  what a lot of companies don't realize is that a lot of people that download videos buy them...  i'm going to buy flip, but it'd be cool to see it earlier than when i can buy it if possible.

Rowley had some sick sick. the back 3 thrasher cover, the vans ad 50 that crazy double kink hubba all in there but that vans ad going off the storage containers was a frontside 180 not frontside flip as everyone was claiming.
Rodrigo was super sick but his song blew as did alot of other people song,
Shane cross part was fuckin sick all hammers.
Boulala prob one of the most entertaining.
Lance mountain skates a bowl.
Curren caples ispretty much david loys little brother he share a part with ben nordsberg and willow.. no wallenberg for willow
Bob burnquist is fuckin insane 3 flip 50 mega rail
Penny is one of my favorites but he is alittle sketchy now.
Appleyard had my favorite part. 3 flip nose wilshire 10
David gonzaleea did have the best stuff but I still dont like him

stole this from another forum

http://www.trevward.com/?p=369

http://skateboarding.transworld.net/features/extremely-sorry-premier-interviews-part-1/

http://skateboarding.transworld.net/features/extremely-sorry-premiere-interviews-part-2/

Last night was the Flip premiere. I rode up with Mike Sinclair, Dan Murphy and Nick Merlino. This I would like to dub as the “Crazy Van”, Skateboarders that are dead set crazy! Nick ate some beef jerky and puked the whole way there.
Got to the Grove where it was being held and had to check in. Everyone was there. We had VIP tickets which was a bonus.

Anyway I got in there and lost Mike and the Crazy’s and bumped into Mapstone and Bryce Golder. For the record there were so many Aussies there… Azar, Chima, Choi, Sammy Winter (Who got kicked out before it started), Burman, Golder, Corbin, Andrew Mapstone, O’meally, Fardell and Mumford also Bjorn was there too. If I left any out well I am sorry maybe a couple of others were there.

So Lance, Geoff and Ian Deacon take the stage say a few words. Geoff dedicates the Vid to Shane Cross. The movie starts with a small Shane montage then it has this Play do/Clay works thing of shane surfing..Then into his part which is so good. They do some crazy shit to his tricks with peace signs fire and rainbows and what not. Next part was Rowley. It is not as crazy as the Sorry vid. Hand rails are not as huge but his skating is insane, some crazy dude does the biggest drop in, in the world it has to be and gets worked twice trying it. I guess his Sorry part is one of my favourites. Like usual another Lennon/Beatles song! There is some crazy shit with a mountain lion! After this it goes to Louie Lopez. This kid kills it. He is so good and everyone in the Audience approves that this kid is legit. I have seen him around for a while now and wondered if he was really that good. you know you see stuff of him now and then but he is so good. Great part not only for a young kid. Rodrigo Tx comes in next. I have never been a huge fan of his skating but I do respect what he can do. But this part I think is his best. I think it is filmed well which does his skating justice. Ali’s Part was short but we all know why but what is in there is good. It is Kooky and quirky and a bit of a laugh, typical Ali stuff. It had a few gnarly things in it. Next was Bobs part. I guess I used to wait for Bobs parts and just couldnt wait to see them all. The last part he had was ok but I just personally Bob had lost everything that I had thought was so amazing about him. This part certainly blew all that away. Bob is now my favourite skater again! It is insane what that man can do. His vert part is great but it is his Mega Ramp part that will blow anyone away and he got by far the biggest cheer of the video. Danny Way invented the Mega ramp and progressed the skating but Bob just took it to a whole new level. Funny if you watch Bobs runs from the X-games this year you can see that he was just toying with people. What he can do on that thing is just at another level. Jake could do a 900 on it but what does blows that out of the water. Sounds bias but everyone thought the same.

Luans part was solid. He killed it. I think he will be Pro very soon. I hate to say this but the next part was the worst part of the film. Curren Caples is so rad and everywhere I see him skate in person he rips but the DVD did not do him Justice. Sorry Little man! This went into a Euro montage and Willow from Berlin had some great stuff as well. Runes part was rad but we had already seen it all in the Thrasher mag with the exception of a few parts but it was rad. Also the Love Bowl footage was so rad!

Next up was Penny… Just standard Penny skating if you can say that. He is looking a little worse for wear but he certainly is ripping you know. Then Lance. Lances part is done well and typical lance with all the stunts he used to use on the Powell vids from back in the Day. Great skating good slam and just rad to see. The long awaited Appleyard part was great. He is so good. Appleyard delivered a good solid part that had some amazing skating.

Last part goes to David Gonzales. It starts strong..has so many solid tricks, flip in and out of rails ledges everything plus hits up some serious stuff. He is no joke. Great part and certainly the best part I think out of all the street skaters.

Great night went back down to SD with the Crazy Town guys from Tum Yeto, In and Out Burger and then home to bed.

I didn't really care for any of the young bucks beside Gonzalez.

Penny was pretty lackluster. It's the most footy he's had in in years, though. And holy fuck, his clothes got even baggier.

Editing was a little weird. The claymation got old quick.

Hands down, Rowley and Bob had the best sections. When Rowley skated to Lemmy's cover of "Stand by Me," all my apprehensions towards the vid having an "original soundtrack" were quickly washed away. He had first part though, so the music started to decline in quality at a pretty rapid rate.

i got in at the tail end of louie lopezs part because flip doesnt know how to plan a fucking event and let more than 3/4 in VIP before they even let any of the people with tickets in.
yeah, the seating situation at the SF premiere was pretty fucked. There was a 9pm and an 11pm showing. The 9 wasn't even filled to capacity (not even close), and there was a loooooooooong ass line of people waiting to get in still. When i got out, the line of people waiting to get in for the 11 was substantially longer.

High point of the evening: seeing Robin Fleming live and in the flesh.

Things that stood out from the crazy SF premiere Nancy the manicurist mentioned...(spoilers)

The intros.  Everyone had a custom claymation intro that seemed to be based on inside jokes.  Shane rolling a joint with a crab on a beach and Rune feeding himself and a snake lots of mushrooms before being sucked into a hole in space.  Too specific to be random, I thought.  I enjoyed all of them and it reminded me of Johnny Rotten doing the intros for the original Sorry.

Shane's part was all hammers.  The way he stomps his tricks and yet remains smooth is amazing.  Perfect nollie flip down a giant four stood out.  Jake Duncombe inherited his style.

Rowley 50-50 stalls a ledge that seems to be taller than he is, coming off of maybe a tiny three foot bump.  Seemed to be feeling his board even more than usual, throwing in casual big spins / 360s on flat right after giant rails/gaps.  Shane and Rowley made for a perfect intro.  Backside ollie off a platform into a huuuuuuge bank as ender.

Louie Lopez...played to a silent theater that was otherwise cheering the whole time (and besides Curren Caples).  Maybe in five or six years this kid will be fun to watch.

Rodrigo...how I envy you.  Music so bad it was almost unintentionally funny, but the skating made up for it.  Kickflip front crook the top of the barcelona tables and switch flip back smith.  Bs 180 switch front crooks a table to a rick flip down some stairs immediately after (i think) (same spot Rick Howard had his fakie 50 to switch nose manual fakie flip out ender in fully flared).  This part went by way too fast and I want to see it again.

Entertaining Boulala shit...switch back 50 to shove it off a ledge to drop stuck perfectly.  I like when he does random tech shit / switch tricks perfectly.  Well rounded stuff, and lots of ollies into giant banks.

Luan...pleasure to watch skating progress with a part like this.  Reminded me of first seeing Rodrigo in the Es video or PJ Ladd in pj's whl...obviously gifted/freakishly natural.  Three flip a gap to crooks a ledge.  Some kind of combo trick (maybe half cab heel noseslide) to landing in a nose manual on a sidewalk, nollie big spin out with complete ease.  Hauling ass switch 360 flips in lines.  Switch crooks up a ledge to fakie big flip out last trick.

Bob is crazy.  Reminds me of a writer/artist or anyone talented who you hate as a person, but you have to respect the stuff they produce.  Front side full cab from the deck of a 30 foot vert ramp into the transition.  Every kind of back tail big spin variation.  Mega ramp switch madness.

Rune was amazing.  His part was a little too short for me, and a lot of it was already in Thrasher.

Lance was one of my favorite parts.  Entire part in a single pool, but he destroys every inch of it and brings in some crazy obstacles.  Hippy jump over the ladder was a crowd pleaser.

Penny...Penny!  Damn you for not spending a little more time on your board.  By this point I started getting the feeling that the older generation of Flip skaters were either getting less attention than the new guys, or they just aren't trying as hard.  Penny obviously still has the talent, but it looked like he had to work hard for most tricks.  Some tricks (nollie bs 360 flip off a bump) seemed more comfortable than others, like maybe he was going through periods of skating a lot more etc.

Appleyard was a crowd pleaser.  I wanted more from his part, and I wanted it to be the ender.  Maybe it went by too fast, but it seemed like most of the stuff was old or from interviews.  Nollie bigger spin off a bump over a trash can was flawless, as was everything else.

David Gonzales...seems like he looks up to Rowley.  You can see him mimic his style a bit.  Kickflip feeble to front 180 out a big rail was awesome.

the footage in the video was amazing....but the production of it was horrible......it felt childish like an Almost video...except worse....such a step down from their last videos....instead of johnny rotten introducing people its lame claymation cartoons that came straight from the mind of some kook....I really wanted to like this video but the soundtrack is unbareable.....It's such a shame that amazing skaters work so hard to make a video and then some shitty editor/producers puts together a half-assed video in really bad taste....actually it wasn't half-assed....it looks more like a lot of effort was made to make this video shitty.....They should have just handed this project over to French Fred again.....it would have made for one hell of a video

anyway......Burnquist isn't human......one of the most epic parts I've seen in a long time

Lance was one of my favorite parts.  Entire part in a single pool, but he destroys every inch of it and brings in some crazy obstacles.  Hippy jump over the ladder was a crowd pleaser.

That Hippy-jump, and one of the inverts that he did that was completely boned out (If someone with knowledge of handplant variations could fill me in as to what exactly this one was called that would be cool) were two huge crowd pleasers at the Toronto premiere. I thought it was wild the way that his part was laid out to be like 'A Day at Lances', with the opening cruise and then it was as if his entire part was just a daily session. That thought that went in to planning that part alone made it one of my personal favorites.

Other than Lances part, standouts included Rodrigo really shocking the hell out of me with his entire part, and I wasn't expecting that level of technical expertise out of Luan. All in all the whole video came together nicely and I thought the titles were a really nice touch, although a couple people I talked to afterward weren't so psyched on the whole thing and didn't really see how they fit in. Well done, Flip!

Edit: I completely forgot to mention how psyched everyone was on Bob's part. That shit was mind blowing and before that I'd never really been stoked on a completely vert part!

I think someone said it best on here a little while back:

The footage will be sick but the editing/music/production will let it down.  Previous flip videos did the same for me...

I think is just beacus the original sorry is sooo good on editing and music, it gets kinda hard to be up with it. even with better skating.

Was really sick. So hyped to see Shanes nosegrind el toro and other footage. Rowley, TX, Appleyard and David Gonzales parts stood out to me. Luan's part was super tech and good too. Vov's on some next level shit on that mega ramp, and didn't help convince me he's not using magnets.

Wasn't feeling the claymation skits in betweeen, they were lame and not funny. And I don't know what to say about the music, I don't even know what it was.....no comment.

Great skating, shitty format.

Rodrigo had swag at an all time high.  Luan's part was like rodrigo's but slightly more technical and much less flavor.  Tom penny was the illiest.  the switch front board shove it into the bank as well as the backside carving switch pop shove it on the bank were cool.  Rowley had my favorite section I think.  I may have just been in a doofy mood but I thought some of the claymation stuff was funny enough.  still not great though.  bobs shit is just weird.  really incredible but I dunno.  It doesn't have much to do with skateboarding in the typical ways that I like to think of it

A lot of the music sounded like some corny-ass chase scene out of a james bond movie

best video ever, shanes part was amazing smooth style, buttery tre flips, most stylish front feeble, Ali was amazing too, louie lopez blew me away, rowley didnt shoot a lion on the video, must of been taken out, runes parts pretty small, williows ender is mind blowing, bobs part was pretty much mega ramp, tx was tech as, that luan kid was brilliant, lance part was off its tits - (so fun to watch) penny had a pretty long part, geoffs part was alot mellower then his other parts, alot of bank skating, david part was insane SOTY for sure, except i didnt like how he spat on that dead bird and chucked it. apples parts was good too, kinda liked his really sorry part though, deff the best video from the past 5 years!

don't even mind the Original Soundtrack...at least it's something different, as opposed to whatever indie rock (is that even still a term?) is cool now, or ironic hip-hop, or some classic rock song you've heard a billion times. like it was cool how tom penny's song was beatlesque, almost to the point of plagiarism but not quite...

I have seen only 3 parts: rowley, apples and shane

I missed soo much sequences, I dont remeber rowley doing one, and I think that appleyard had 1 or 2, which its a peace of shit, we want to see them push and riding their board.

We dont need to comeback to the early 00's were hammers were they way to do video parts

favorite parts: Shane Cross, Geoff Rowley, Bob Burnquist, Lance Mountain, Mark Appleyard, David Gonzalez. Didn't really care for anybody else.

But the video as a whole sucked ass. They tried their hardest to ruin the entire video with shitty music, editing, and claymation. Luckily the skating held them afloat.

I didn't feel it for David Gonzales. He is annoying and boring with his lame ass airwalk shit.

They should give the ender to Burnquist, Rowley or Lance.

Burnquist was mindblowing, Geoff has the best attitude and style and Lance really ripped that pool!

this was by far the worst edited video in a long while. and probably the only video in my life that it truly struggled to finish. but the sakting was some of the best i've ever seen, too bad about the edit.

I think that SD to HD period will be remembered as dark times in skateboarding video, because no one knows how to combine the two, to get something nice too look at.

and once more: FUCK YOU VIDEO EDITOR!

Ok he skates good, but stop with all the impossibles, bank dropins and gay ass airwalks. And wtf!! I didn't know Curren Caples skated for flip?!? That was such a bummer!

Hmmm potentially this could have been one of the best videos in a long while but I am afraid that it really was ruined by the editing, music and overall artistic direction.  The skating overall was amazing (and then some) but the footage should have been put together by someone who had a fucking clue.  Rowley or not, it looked like it was put together by a teenager with little to no editing skills and poor aestheitic sensibilities to boot.  As for the music, concept wise a good idea (maybe?!?!) but seriously, it ruined it for the most part.

Re-edit and repackage please.

I don't know why everyone hated the music so bad. I thought some if it worked pretty well, to create certain atmospheres. For instance, Rodrigo's song was sick, it had this Chemical Brothers feel to it which I think worked perfectly with his skating; tight pace of technical skating and sort of hypnotic song. Puts you in a zone. That kind of music is rarely used in skate videos but this showed it can work. And Lemmy singing Stand By Me? Fucking brilliant.

I guess thats why I liked it so much, because it's slating I'll never really try to get into and it seems so foreign and cool. Using the buoy rope to carve under and air over and all the other props was a really unique approach. Plus at 35 it gives me hope to skate like him still in my 40's.

Oh and about Bob.  Of course it was amazing, and ridiculous.  I could never imagine even dropping in on a mega, much less flipping into tricks on the rail or launching my ass into the Canyon.  It's like it's not even skateboarding at this point it is something else entirely.  He really is on some other level shit, and I actually thinks he skates that huge ass ramp better than Way does.

so many oh my gods in that part. switch backside flip the gap, WTF... and then all the tricks he did into the big quarter. i think he's definitely the master of this shit for now but i'm sure danny's sitting on some footage that might might even things out a bit but for me bob put a hurting on the mega that's gonna be real hard to fuck with. i really didn't think anyone could make that ramp interesting again at this point but fuck bob stepped up and ripped that shit.

i'm also pretty suprised not to see more love for apples part. you guys might want to watch that shit again. such a sick part, best part for style in the video. buttery as all fuck.

I'll say this again, David Gonzales' crail into the bank was the best thing in that video. Know why? Coz it's shot from far away so he looks like a normal sized human being.

man, some of that appleyard footage must be ancient.  dudes wearing circas in some of that shit and he's been off for like, 5 years? 4 years?  he really likes those bigspins.  that always seemed like a safety trick to me.

i wonder how rowley got up ontop of those crates.

Now when i saw the movie, i gotta say that only parts that were good in my opinion were Penny and Lance. All of them were sick no doubt but only those two were like GOOOOD... shame though.... the video could have been so much better!

The switch b/s flip looks like it was filmed from a poacher or  shoe cam.  Weird there was no landing.  Other than that it was insane.

They didn't show Bob's landing on that sw bs tail either. That was a clip I was looking forward to seeing.

Other than that, I thought Appleyard had best part, good skating/style and the music fit well.

It seems like there was a lot of different filmers on this vid. Some clips colors looked like complete shit. A lot of different angles that didn't fit well either.

Like in movies, trilogies rarely work. This falls into the failed category, it felt like it was missing something from the other two videos, a little less sorry maybe.

i didnt see no penny switch tail 270, all i saw was apples do one

The music was not great but refreshing for a change from all this Morrissey indie bullshit going on. I say bring shit like Primus back in the mix....Pat Duffy would agree with me

also...I don't think I saw one lifestyle shot of somebody smoking a cigarette. Good.

cigs are just dirty and I see 12 year olds at the park smoking all the time trying to look like Spanky and Jerry Hsu. I'm  23, I smoke, and I have no kids. So I'm a big fat hypocrite. But smoking seems really trendy in skateboarding right now and its dumb.

The Good:

Geoff - Of Course. He killed it. Has such a basic, clean way of skating-and you can always see him pushing after every trick because he's having fun. Great song and great part. Where was a cougar getting shot out of a tree? I gotta say, the last part with him and Lemmy reading was kinda corny.

Appleyard - I think maybe this part won't be thought of as epically as his last two, but the skating is still unbelievable and his style is so casual.

David Gonzales - I don't know how people don't like him. He skates so raw, has a good style, and goes incredibly fast. What more do you want?

Lance - This might have been the best edited part in the video. It was just really cool. Also-was that Neil Blender dressed in a wig watching Lance do the invert? Or was it Lance himself? Great song, great vibe-very inspirational. Of all the Bones Brigade guys I think you can say that Lance has kept it the most real over the years, and seems like the most genuine skate rat of the bunch.

Bob Burnquist - He might be the gnarliest skater on earth. What was up with the no-landing shots of some of his tricks? Like the switch backside tailslide on the mega-rail?

The Bad:

Luan - Amazing skater, but would love for him to ditch the crossed-arms-squatting-down-before-every-trick style. Also, terrible song.

Louie Lopez - I have a feeling this kid is going to be amazing. He's got Guy-Mariano-video-days level little kid-maturity in style and tricks. Part was a little short however, and again, terrible song.

Curran Caples - Was a little unimpressed, but I'd like to see him get really good in a few years-he has a good style.

Willow - Pretty sick style. But most of the rumors about his stunts proved to be false.

Rune - He kills transitions, but his part never really captures how fast he goes or made it look as sick as it is. A handful of his tricks were insane though. Also: Dear Europe, Prodigy sucks.

The Ugly:

Shane Cross - I really, really, really hate to say this, but the way they edited Shane's part was insanely bad. I guess I get that they were trying to capture his personality and what he was like when he was alive, and to give the feeling that he is in a better place now-I just didn't like the way it was done, it felt trivial, considering that this human being is dead. I guess in a personal sense I feel it is kind of in bad taste to remember Shane in his last part as just some stoner guy, which is kinda how it makes him look. But whatever, if his friends and family like it I guess that's all that matters.

The Eh:

Ali - Obviously hasn't been able to film a full part, but there were some cool things in there. I don't know how to feel about the Pink Panther song, but I enjoyed watching it.

Rodrigo TX - Might be the most slept on part - he has about 20 unbelievably sick tricks. Not to many people have the kind of control he does. Another terrible song, however.

Tom Penny - A handful of sick tricks. Why does he dress like that? They should have just filmed him talking for 3 minutes instead of skating IS DIS REAL OR IS DIS REALLY REAL.

The Editing - was a pretty mixed bag in my eyes. They took a lot of risks, some of it works and is fun/interesting, some of it is annoying and will be worse on repeated viewings. But in a general sense I think they have a success here, and the video definitely stands out from everything else being released right now.

shanes part was pretty weird but i liked it.  i'm not sure about the whole rolling a joint thing but if that's how the dude was, and that's what he was about, i guess he wouldnt mind being remembered like that.  it's a weird take on it, but i'm sure it was tough trying to find a way to give shane's footage a place, without making it sad.

lance was fucking awesome and ruled the video.

i think this is a good break down but for me rowely and lemmy's voice over went pretty well with the level of gnar that was going on in the video and for me it was less dramatic and cheesy than a lot of the FF stuff. and then with shane cross, i think he was a stoner kind of kid, maybe he would have become something more in life but when he died i think he would have dug being remembered in that way. i'm pretty sure that the people involved knew him well and were trying to do what they felt he would have liked.

Really? That was one of my guesses, but if it was him the footage must have been really old considering he hasn't dressed that way in about 6 years.

pretty sure it was rowley, that's what i thought. why wouldnt it be him? he did have a large collection of hats throughout the part

Apples part was good, so was david's.  I wish there were more lines, but the video was rad.

Why did Arto leave Flip?

i know what you mean, apples part were mostley single tricks. i loved all the lines his did in sorry, really sorry

rewatch that really sorry part. there's not as many line in there as you think. there's only like three or four. and i'm kind of upset at how old some of appleyard's footy is, but his tricks at the end are crazy.

The Good:

Geoff - Of Course. He killed it. Has such a basic, clean way of skating-and you can always see him pushing after every trick because he's having fun. Great song and great part. Where was a cougar getting shot out of a tree? I gotta say, the last part with him and Lemmy reading was kinda corny.

I guess they took it out.  A lot of people were pretty pissed off about it at the prermiere.

I do not give a shit about this video but Gnarles Manson sent a link so I watched some of it. I watched Geoff, Shane Cross, Ali Boulala, Appleyard, Penny and that little mexican kid that looks like a girl. I am frightened of claymation so that was a horrible experience for me, and I'm guessing most other people. Geoff's song and part were good, Shane Cross had some good stuff with terribly horrible editing and effects, Ali's stuff was ok, Tom Penny's clothes really ruin his tricks, I miss 1995 Penny, Appleyard is amazing and deserves to be on a better company, the mexican kid is good and really wants to be super gnarly hessian dude or whatever, but if he died I wouldn't really care. Pretty shitty video with some really good skateboarders

You are really stupid, and you mean "session" not "season". I think you meant to write "realized" instead of "realised", which isn't a word at all. Instead of "his" I believe you were trying to write "he's". Are you from Brazil by any chance?

Well, I just watched it for the first time this evening (thanks to somebody posting a link) and I gotta say this video is a mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly. I'm not motivated enough to write a proper review (Nick Dagger did a fairly good job above), but in a nutshell, it's basically fairly decent skating ruined by bad music and extremely (!) amateur editing/art direction. Bob Burnquist is insane though and TX really came through.

I was slightly let down but not because of the music, editing, art direction, or any of that bullshit that I don't know why you all care about so much. I was let down because I had imagined the parts would be longer. (From what I can remember) Rodrigo and David Gonzalez were the only two parts that seemed to be a good length considering how long they took to make the video.

mistaking "session" as "season" and "he's" as "his" aren't even misspellings, they're entirely different words with completely different meanings. i didn't even understand psychout's post initially from the mistakes.

The only thing that really seemed like it was missing was Arto and Bastien. Just doesn't seem like a Flip video without them.
So what you're trying to say is:

The soundtrack was better than Sorry/Really Sorry (Bowie, Tom Petty, Gray Matter, The Smiths etc.)?
It was better than Mindfield (probably the best video in the 21st century)?

To each his own, but those statements are quite ludacris. It's like saying Josh Kaspers "The Storm" part was better than Dill's "Photosynthesis" part.

that video was fucking amazing, way better than i thouight it woudl be. easily video of the year, blew mindfield out of the water. geoff rowley's part should have been the last part. that fucking kickflip 5050 at the beginning was the best trick in the entire video i thought that should have been the ender... although that fucking 40 stair lipslide WAS fucking amazing too.

great soundtrack on that video too. was that first song a motorhead cover of stand by me???

some people were saying tom penny's part should have been longer... it was like 4 minutes, i think that was plenty long enough especially for an older dude. i was super glad he wasnt just doing fs flips and shit he normally does, he fucking killed that part it wasnt the most techincal shit but that isnt what he is good at. it was just really chill stuff wasnt mind blowing or anything but i dont think there was 1 tic tac.

NickDagger's review was spot on so I'm not going to write a full part by part analysis...

Rowley - the song actually suits his part in the same way that his really sorry part did. I wouldn't dream of listening to the track exclusively but it it went well with his skating. The 180 between the containers is one of the gnarliest things ever done in skateboarding.

Luan - watch the feet, mute the volume, ridiculous skills.

Ali - Pink panther ruined it. The skating was really sick though. He truly is an original.

Appleyard - song was actually quite good. As Nick said it wasn't ground breaking but his style is ridiculously smooth and his part is probably one of the one's I'd actually watch again.

David Gonzalez - Beast.

In general I'll give it a good pass. Like, the clay stuff wasn't as bad as expected, it certainly was more tame than the intros in 'Sorry'. It's obvious the hey-day of the Boulala/Bastien/Arto/Penny antics from Sorry can't be recreated. Those days were magical in their own respect and obviosuly you're not going to get the same resulting antics with the likes of Bob and Louie. Saying that maybe the younger skaters will come to be a bit more tight knit and the 'team feeling' might evolve. I just think this is what's lacking these days with videos/teams. There seems to be less emphasis on teams with a bunch of guys that actually skate together and now it seems the 'international' feel has taken over. Not that there's anything wrong with the aforementioned, but I think it kind of goes against what a team is supposed to be. I suppose that's why Girl/Chocolate still works.

Oh and how horrific was that song in the outro - what was it like fucking R&B or something?
Title: Re: The Official Extremely Sorry Thread
Post by: Smurph on October 16, 2009, 10:20:59 AM
i dunno about that, I think enjoi captures that team feel better than anyone else in skateboarding with the way they handle themselves, tilt mode, etc.
Yes, I forgot Enjoi. They certainly capture the right side of skating - friends skating together having a laugh.

Oh and how horrific was that song in the outro - what was it like fucking R&B or something?
first fs flip nosegrind on a handrail i've ever seen, biggest tre flip noseslide on a handrail i've seen before, i can't remember previously seeing a switch tailside 270 out on a handrail or a switch 180 5050 nollie back 180 out on a hubba. on another note, i thought it was weird that the nollie back noseblunt, very rarely done, on that sylmar rail was sort of just thrown into the beginning, but the tre flip lipslide on it was double angled and slow mo'd and one of the last tricks in the part.

still though, i agree with you on videos these days. probably why all of the baker/deathwish videos are instant favorites for me.

Oh don't get me wrong, I think Appleyard is sick but it was kind of what you'd expect from him. 'Ground breaking' wasn't meant in a frivelous sense. If something is ground-breaking it's proper shit-your-pants type amazement.

Oh and if you want to see an awesome flip front nosegrind, see Kirchart's section in Mindfield.

And for reference, Kirchart's backside flip at the end is a fine example of underwear-debasing-material.

There's a few guys out there who are SOOO FUCKING GOOD at skateboarding and make it look so easy that they can do groundbreaking shit and you hardly even notice.  It takes like two or three watches to realize how fucking insane the tricks they do are cause they are doing them so easily.  Apples is definitely one of those guys.

The real bummer was Shane Cross's part.  All that animation ruined some really really good footage.  And I talked to a filmer/editor friend of mine who told me that would seriously be at least a hundred hours of editing work to make all that shit.  Talk about a WASTE of time.

I'm sure they wanted to do something special since it was his last part ever and all...but that was the WRONG CHOICE!!

I'm thinking there's still a lot of unseen Shane footage out there.  I mean he'd been rocking the long hair and party shirts for awhile, but Let's Live and the Flip vid only had a few clips of "recent" Shane.  Even if it's throwaway it would get me more stoked than his craziest jumps.

I guess some people like all Shane's motion graphics so that's cool.  I just found it really distracting from his footage mostly.  I understand they wanted to do something different and that's fine.  They pulled it off with Tom Penny in Sorry.  I just found they kinda got in the way in this one.  Especially that first line where it looks like there is a monkey crawling all over him or something.  But if some people are into it then cool.

yeah, i agree completely. The Girl dudes did it right with the Keenan tribute in front of Yeah Right (vintage archival clips, voiceovers by his closest friends, new skate footy, etc.) . It was the perfect goodbye to such a rad dude.

Shane's "Let's Live" part was a more proper sendoff. Dollin edited it right? I guess that's another thing he's good at.

I felt the same way, I got the impression as they wanted to show his existence still roaming the spot.

and as for his intro, I don't get why people are so concerned?  what the hell do you think shane would've wanted...?    most likely chillin' at a better place getting high!    which is exactly what I hope he's doing right the fuck now.

i agree, only things i didnt like was that monkey thing on his back and that heel flip with all those colours and the fire on that rail. i like the butterfly/bug light things on that noseblunt, the stuff that comes out when he sess slides after that 5050 into the bank. the pop shuv nosegrind and the tre off that kicker, editing looked tight, but after watching it a few times it grows on you, im sure he has tones of footage still, he use to have photos in every skate mag in oz, like every issue. shane had a big imagination and his fav quote was willy wonka's that was at the start of lets live. they were trying to give his part some imagination and colour because shane was into that whole vibe. i guess LSD and weed opened shanes mind up. he was just a colourful happy person.

i think you guys arent realizing that lances song is a damned song, not something made for the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OiSEr1-LYk

whatever its fucking awesome anyway. the soundtrack was key in this video. every video out nowadays has such a strange mix of songs in it, this one they all seem to fit together somehow. like blind video i am always going to go back to that as the example of what could have been a great video but ruined by bad editing. the video had no vibe to it, seemed to have no comraderie between the riders or anything. one song is from the fucking 80s, the next song is nas, then theres like some weird metal song... its just too much different shit. flip seemed to be on some euro freakout vibe for the most part. it was good. it fit together. not my favorite kinds of music by any means but it worked well for this video.

I loved lances part it was really cool all pool skating and some unique tricks plus like the other dude said it had a really good vibe.  Shanes part was gnarly he has a lot of big sets and grinds in it and Alis part was pretty good wasnt my favorite part of the vid but it was definatly sick.

Shit, there is something very wrong with this video  in the same way that there is something wrong with all the globe and almost videos.   :( :( :(

Don't get me worng, all of these videos have top notch teams and footage; that said though, there is definitely something about the way that they put their footage togethr and choose to present their team/image that irks me.  Who ever is editing and deciding on how this footage is being presented needs to be fired ASAP.  You've got a lineup of amazingly rad skaters yet all the productions pit out by these companies are incredibly shite.

in your opinion. i thought this video was a lot better than those videos. it had an original soundtrack for christ's sake. no videos these days have that kind of shit. the parts are nice and short so you can get stoked to skate and you dont feel like you want to skip the parts cause they drag on. they chose the best tricks to represent each guy too. you get to see them chilling with eachother, a lot of really unique spots. you get to see the guy riding away a lot too which you never see, it really shows the style of each guy really well. dont know where all the hate for the editing on this video is coming from really. its flip at its finest i was really not expecting much from this video and it blew me away.

so bummed... It has the most amazing skating, but the soundtrack and editing keep me from watching it over and over.  Stupid clay animation filler.

Flip should go back to the lab and redo direction, editting and music of the video.  I just can't watch videos that have shitty music, bad filming, and editing.

Penny's clothes got bigger, BUT HE IS DOING THE SAME TRICKS HE DID SINCE 1997.  When Guy Mariano came back he showed that he could keep up with current pros by doing all the tech on ledges, handrails, lines, and few gaps.  The stuff Penny did was what we already know he could do.  There was only a handful of new tricks.  It bums me out that he lacks creativity.  Back in late 90s he was innovating, doing everything bigger, effortless and smoother.  Now it seems like he's regressing and reached his peak around 1999-2000. It's a good thing he's english and Rowely's bud, he'll never get kick so he can milk it.

David Gonzalez is the Golden Child future of skateboarding.  Dude is so young but has mad style and huge bag of tricks with lots of variety. Don't understand how he has so much variety on lock.  Only bad thing is his wardrobe and sometimes he looks like a girl or 14y old kid.   He needs to cut his hair, get rid of the black metal shirts and skinny jeans  Once he learns to dress (like Apples or Malto) everything will look butter.

are you implying that people who dress like apples and malto are the only ones who can look butter?  ::) sure some people have a better fashion sense than others but to say that only people that dress well(in your opinion) can be butter is regular.

Clothes that fit in general.  Watching someone skate in huge threads or in butt tight skinny pants is hard on the eyes.  1996 called Penny, they wondering why the same tricks but 3x the size of your clothes?

Even though Corey Duffel is good, I skip his part in new tws vid since he has the worse fashion sense.  Same with Greco, I'll skip his part too.  Very few people can pull off the tight pants shirt skating, I'm thinking like only 2-5%.

appleyard had the most watchable part imo.  he's the only guy that i could understand a style argument being valid for.  whenever someone isn't as good as other pros everyone has to say "oh but his style is soooo amazing omg" and it still doesn't make up for their lack of skill.  appleyard has the big, tech tricks with the style to match.  can't hate on that.

Quote from: Shitty write up on the back of the DVD
Five long years in the making, Extremely  Sorry is the third release in Flip's sorry video series of skateboarding insanity. The world famous Flip Team continues to evolve with the addition of new talented riders joining the original crew, creating one of the most diverse skate teams in modern history. Famous not only for their insane skateboarding skills, the Flip team are also as notorious for their renegade lifestyles - so don't expect to see them at the Olympics any time soon! Extremely Sorry was so named to be a tongue-in-cheek mockery of the mainstream contest side of skateboarding. Enjoy!

This load of shit is what's on the back of the DVD, which comes with laces, dice, and stickers of all the claymation. What the fuck. I really wish antisocial had the regular release since this is the worst garbage a special edition could ever have. This write up sounds like something written on the back of Grind 2. Makes me so bummed it's on the flip video. Renegade lifestyles, yes, note the RIP section at the beginning, are they seriously playing that up? Jesus! Extreme as a joke? Bob base jumps into the fucking grand canyon!!! If you don't think he's entering the Olympics when they happens you're an idiot.

So bummed on Flip right now.

just bought the video yesterday. came w/ a set of free extremely sorry skate dice, some laces & hella of those claymation stickers (wtf)

the video was sweet. shane's part was rad, the editing kinda killed it though. i could see how they tried to make it like arto's part in sorry but they took it too far, like why did they have to add an effect to every single trick? he still rips though, RIP.

the claymation intros were kinda lame..not too into them.

the music was whatever. i think there was such a big deal because it was customized, but i think even if it wasn't it still woulda came out similar to that. just random weird tracks like something out of a tws montage or some shit.
